It seems to me that to the rainbow sash movement, being gay is more important than being Catholic.
That’s putting it absolutely perfectly. They’ve put their lives so completely out of balance that their sexuality is overriding every other aspect of their lives. It’s not healthy.

I have a feeling that this protest, like the cathedral heckling incident, will be made more of by outsiders than Chicago Catholics. The cardinal has previously instructed parishioners: ‘No political statements in church’. and I expect him to adhere to that policy.

What would happen if the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka decided to have a demonstration at the same time as the rainbow sash group? Maybe they could all just stay outside and exchange ideas, leaving the Mass attendees in relative peace.
** LOL **

Oh yes, many bishops have directed, in advance, that anyone wearing a rainbow sash not be given the Eucharist. I think the general response of rainbow sashers, when denied communion, is to return to their pews but remain standing while the rest of the congregation kneels.

However, in 2006, a sacrilege occurred at the St. Paul, Minnesota cathedral.

I think, and hope, this was one time occurrence which only happened in St. Paul.
Oh… that is really sad. 😦 Both of those responses are VERY sad.

(Just to clarify-- because the quotes didn’t come out right) by both responses, I meant standing up when everybody is kneeling, and distributing Holy Communion amongst themselves.

I’ve had this ‘dream’ of setting up a table outside the Cathdral. We’d have a few of us dressed up as Martin Luther, Arius, Nestorius and John Calvin.

We’d have a big sign declaring “Come Dressed as your Favorite Heretic Day - Heretic Costume Contest”

As the Rainbow Sashers arrive, we’d applaud and give them a trophy.
I could pitch up a table next to yours with a sign saying: “Mass has ended, go in peace”.

Good for them, I hope the good bishop offers hugs and maybe invite for brunch or coffee. Confilct is always a great way to mend hearts from Christs teachings.

I think it’s more of a case of their wanting to be accepted for who they are as people.
Many people attend Mass. There are many life styles and ethnicities represented. The “Rainbow Sash” group are the only ones that make a very public exhibition of there life style to everyone else at the Mass.
Keeping ones lifestyle and/or sins private between them and GOD (confessing with a contrite heart not in pride) is expected of us all. Promoting things that are taught to be wring by Holy Mother Church IMHO just adds another issue between a person and GOD.

Exactly! All they care about is their ‘screaming demands’!

If I were a male with the build and strength of a football linebacker, and an usher at that Mass, I’d take them by the scruff of the neck and throw them out of the church! Then I’d tell them to ‘come back when you learn some manners and respect in Our Lord’s House! And repent of your sin!’

I get so sick and tired of treating homosexuals with kid gloves!

I think it’s more of a case of their wanting to be accepted for who they are as people.
You mean, as people who like to wear weird costumes to Sunday Mass?

Or as homosexual activists who wish to force the Church to give her blessing to their lifestyle?

Who they are as people is sinners, just like the rest of us. Unlike the rest of us, though, they wish to come to Mass, assert that what they do is not sinful, and have that accepted. That is a long way from “Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.”

Our former Parish Priest once summed up how ludicrous their position is. He asked us to picture them before the Throne of Christ at the last judgement, and interrupting him to point out that, not withstanding the teachings of His Church, they had met, had a vote, and determined that what they did was not sinful.

These people have not set themselves apart by being sinners, not at all. They have impaired their communion with the Catholic Church by denying her teachings, and, worse yet, trying to get others to go along with, or at least acquiesce in, that denial. And Catholics will not accept that denial, or the efforts to propagate it.

Blessings,

Gerry

Yep, no heterosexual Catholics who use artificial birth control attending weekly Mass.

Big difference, You don’t see Hetero married couples disrupting mass just so they can have birth control. They are dealing with the issue privately, it is between them , their priest and God. The same way that our Gay brethren should be dealing with their issues. in private. The church is NOT a democracy, some teachings may be hard, but thats life, and life is not fair.

The problem with these folks is that they are using the Mass as a vehicle for their religio-political agenda by wearing crazy sashes.

Folks should not be wearing tea party pins or anti-Obama paraphernalia at mass either- it’s just not appropriate- not the place.

I haven’t heard that being an issue… I am both of those, anti Obama and a Tea party supporter. but I leave those issues at home when I go to Mass. I also don’t advertise my sexuality either.

Just as it should be. These folks have no business drawing attention to themselves during Mass.

I’m just saying the same principle applies.

Why don’t these anti-Catholic bigots just “live and let live”? Oh wait. They don’t want tolerance, they want to force their beliefs on the Church.

The priest shouldn’t give the Eucharist to a soul who is in the state of sin. Obviously, they aren’t mind readers, but the protesters blatantly intended to commit a sacrilege.

They must think that protesting will make God change His law! 🤷
