I saw a remark above, I thought current but maybe not when the Jews were turned away from the US and the Dominican Republic.Sounds like the Dominican Republic before and during WWII. Was the US willing to accept Jewish refugees? Nope. But the DR was, for crying out loud.
As they say, history rhymes.
Aside from being a small country, let’s not forget, present day Israel does not even give citizenship to the Gazan Palestinians. They are also fairly strict on immigration. So, every time, one hears the pre-WWII ship stories (Trudea just apologized for Canada turning away such a ship), let’s not forget the flipside of the coin, Israel is not all welcoming of immigrants and let’s remember, the USA already accepts more migrants than other countries.
Also, per another post, I’ve now read some data that when we let in people from Italy, I’m sure 95% or more were good people, but I have read that perhaps, some of the criminal element could have been vetted out. Voila, organized crime has now been a problem for some time.
