How and why to pray through Mary?

I can’t believe that millions of people would pray to a departed Christian who can’t even hear their prayers but then again when people reject Gods teaching in His written word on how to pray they then end up with all sorts of foolish ideas on how to pray.

.
Amen. When you’re in need, you pray to God! He is the only one that can bring you out of your troubles. He alone holds the world in His hands!

Justin

I don’t think anyone disagrees with this.

The disagreement is that many protestants think that Catholics ask the dead to pray for us which couldn’t be further from the truth. Those in heaven are more alive in Christ than we are.

God teaches in His written word that His children on earth are to pray to Him for each other. No where in His written word does God teach His children to ask the departed(those who are absent from the body & present with the Lord) Christians to pray for them.

Again God doesn’t teach in His written word that His children are to ask the departed Christians to pray for them.

Gods teaching on how to pray is so important. All Christians must pray the way God teaches them to pray, this is so important.

God doesn’t say in His written word this is how to pray and then add a footnote stating but you are free to pray whatever way **you **want. Christians must pray the way God wants them to pray.

Great responses!!!

Do you ask other people to pray for you? Then you can ask anyone in Heaven to pray for you too. Do you pray for other people? Then you would expect that in Heaven you would pray for other people.

And of course Mary can hear all prayer requests given. Do you doubt the power of Heaven in believing that Heaven is bound by earth’s time?

And why pray to Mary? Because she is the mother of all Christians.

If Jesus is the head of the Church, and we are the body, logically Mary would not only be the mother of only the head, that would be a monster. She would also be the mother of the body. Not the body alone, mind you, but both the head and the body.
yeah JESUS the head and we are the Body
but where does it say pray to Mary???

I remember hearing a story years ago about a man during a flood.
As the waters reached his window, a friend in a rowboat came by. The man refused the offer of help because “God will take care of me.”
The waters continued to rise and the man refused the offer from a Coast Guard speedboat. “God is all I need.”
As the man sat on his roof, a helicopter lowered a ladder for the man to climb. “I am depending only on God.”
When the man arrived in heaven, he asked why God didn’t save him from drowning.
“I sent you a rowboat, a speedboat, and a helicopter. What more do you want?”
The reality is that we need one another. God works through each of us and through his saints.

God clearly teaches His children how to pray and He expects His children to obey His teaching on prayer. Therefore He doesn’t need a verse that says don’t pray to Mary. God has already made it clear that His children on earth should be praying for each other and that they should be praying to Him.

None of the Bible verses that you have posted teach Christians to pray through Mary.

There is no biblical evidence for praying through Mary, period.

Jesus teaches us how to pray: “Our Father, whom art in Heaven, Hallowed be THY Name”

If Jesus wanted us to Pray to Mary, he would have said it so. Also see Luke 11:27-28

And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. (Mary)

28But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

I notice Jesus didn’t say “NO rather…”

If you don’t want to ask Mary for her intercession on your behalf, don’t. Your loss.
It is not correct to say there is any ‘loss’ by not wanting to ask for intercession from Mary or any of the saints.

We pray as we can, not as we can’t.

Luke 11:27 As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” 28 He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

Is this an example of where Jesus would reject the veneration of Mary or simply that obedience to God’s word is more important than the blessing of the Holy Mother?

Pax Christi,

David

Hi David,

Jesus would never reject veneration to His mother. Note that He doesn’t deny what the woman said about Mary being happy (or gifted) over giving birth to such a son. He simply states that one is happier (or more gifted) still, who is faithful to the word of God.

The angel of the Lord said to Mary; Blessed art thou among women.
The certain woman in the crowd said; Blessed are you, Mary.
Jesus said; …
Yea rather, Blessed are those who keep the word of God.
In your minds, are both the angel of the Lord, and the Lord contradicting each other.
Are they divided against each other?
Is that what you mean.
Please explian what you mean?

And he was casting out a devil, and the same was dumb: and when he had cast out the devil, the dumb spoke: and the multitudes were in admiration at it: 15 But some of them said: He casteth out devils by Beelzebub, the prince of devils.

16 And others tempting, asked of him a sign from heaven. 17 But he seeing their thoughts, said to them: Every kingdom divided against itself, shall be brought to desolation, and house upon house shall fall. 18 And if Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because you say, that through Beelzebub I cast out devils. 19 Now if I cast out devils by Beelzebub; by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. 20 But if I by the finger of God cast out devils; doubtless the kingdom of God is come upon you.

21 When a strong man armed keepeth his court, those things are in peace which he possesseth. 22 But if a stronger than he come upon him, and overcome him; he will take away all his armour wherein he trusted, and will distribute his spoils.

He that is not with me, is against me; and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth. 24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through places without water, seeking rest; and not finding, he saith: I will return into my house whence I came out. 25 And when he is come, he findeth it swept and garnished.

26 Then he goeth and taketh with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and entering in they dwell there. And the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. 27 And it came to pass, as he spoke these things, a certain woman from the crowd, lifting up her voice, said to him: Blessed is the womb that bore thee, and the paps that gave thee suck. 28 But he said: Yea rather, blessed are they who hear the word of God, and keep it. 29 And the multitudes running together, he began to say: This generation is a wicked generation: it asketh a sign, and a sign shall not be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. 30 For as Jonas was a sign to the Ninivites; so shall the Son of man also be to this generation.

I still think that this is funny!

Yes very funny for those that can’t think or reason on their own. Or those that believe everything they read whether true or not.

If there were a similar video on the Muslim faith, would be taken down right away among all the death threats.

If you are interested in learning about purgatory, start a thread rather than try to ridicule with distortions.

Exactly! how many people think on their owns??? Most of what people think is what they were taught.

Muslim? Do they have a forum?? and you are right, they would resort to killing someone over their faith. They would voilate GOD law and kill someone.

How many people think on their owns?most have been passed down to you and taught to you. If anyone steps put of that box of training then most likely they are looked at as a rebel. Look at all the great scientist.
are you running on a program that was installed in you from generations or are you thinking on your owns?

Sorry, didn’t mean to change topic on some else’s topic. lets get back to the original topic here. I will not respond to any comments made on my topic here out of respect to the original topic maker.

It’s no great loss to you E.M., Emerald?..

But how could you possibly know that?

Why don’t you ask someone who has been on both sides of the fence and can give an objective opinion on the subject? Then make an educated determination? I suspect you couldn’t care less. It does not surprise me you care nothing for the saints. They would warn against such smug complacency in one’s own opinion. It is no small wonder that we are warned that only those with great humility have even so much as a chance.

I would say, based on some of these protestations that there is a serious lack of understanding of Mary’s role in the Church. Since it has already been explained thoroughly, and summarily ignored, I won’t bother with details.

I do reiterate, however. It is so much the worse for you that you reject this great gift of God. Needed now, more than ever, I may add.

No it is not worse for anyone who does not make use of these potential intercessors.

If it was there would be official teaching on a dogmatic level or other ways the Church makes things mandatory.

“I BELIEVE IN THE COMMUNION OF SAINTS…” :crossrc: :getholy:

Can’t get much more dogmatic than the Apostles Creed, EM. Every element of which is required belief.

Note that it says ‘the Communion of Saints’ and not just ‘the Saints’. We don’t believe in them as isolated individuals, rather we believe that we can and should be in communion (community) with them.

You can’t have real community with someone (or a group of someones) you never communicate with. 🤷
