How Do You Understand Church Teaching About Our Blessed Mother?

I’m curious why you favor this particular thread.
Good question. Let me throw out some answers.

I am not sure I would use the word ‘favor’. But patricius79 and I actually had a decent discussion 8 years ago when I was posting under another id and it is sad to see this now. I would like to see him better.

I got emotionally invested in this, which I suppose is why I am still here and wondering why the thread has not been shut down. I put a lot into some of the posts I have made, including on the now-absent threads.

I don’t want people hurt. I have a protective streak.

Mary is a friend of mine. We have a close relationship that I rarely talk about because I get weird looks (and you can get weird looks over the internet). She should be spoken of correctly.

Maybe I am just plain nuts.

If there is damage, we should seek to mend it. Reconcile. Build the ruined cities long abandoned in the desert. Heal the sick. Lift up the brokenhearted and cheer up the downcast.

Thanks. I appreciate your thoughts on that question because frankly it seems like quite a lot of Protestant posters spend their time posting on threads that, to borrow your words, make you wonder whether they ought to be shut down. All while those of us who try to have good conversations with Protestants, in keeping with Vatican II’s Decree on Ecumenism, get ignored.

God bless you, Tomyris.

To the person who thinks we’re all being hateful…there is only ONE person continually misrepresenting the Church’s teaching. Everyone else, (mostly everyone else ) is on the same page.

Sometimes the truth is the most compassionate thing you offer to people who are misinformed, no matter how well meaning they may seem.

When you have priest instructing you and you continue to argue, it’s not hard to see why people have gotten frustrated and upset themselves.

I won’t comment on posts I haven’t read of course, but I think that those people – well, all of us actually – should realize that there will always be things posted on the internet that they find problematic.

Or to look at it another way, have we Catholics been put on such a high pedestal that something any one Catholic (out of one billion remember) posts anonymously on the internet causes readers to say “Can you believe that a Catholic said that!?”?

I feel the same about some Catholic posters!

Not entirely. There are some really good Protestant posters. But sometimes it is hard to see the trees for the weeds, because it seems like the loudest voices drown out the really good stuff sometimes.

I try to have good conversations with Catholics. Sometimes I am successful, I hope.

I have this wild theory we should work toward unity, based on Jesus’ high priestly prayer.

Well…there have been a few Catholics who took his side on previous threads who have dropped out of the discussion, either because they took another look at what he was really saying or accepted some rather strong correction that was due, despite the fact that some of their responses were, um, not optimal in terms of charity. Or they decided it was time to just quit the discussion. Some posts disappeared mid-thread after snarky comments, so it is possible the moderators encouraged their withdrawal or it dawned on them that continuing their line of argument was not a good idea, particularly the parts about insulting a priest. Never a good argument.

I have a great deal of respect for Don Ruggero. In fact…

I read through this entire thread.

I have a headache.

I am Catholic, and have always had a devotion to our Blessed Mother … but that is by choice and by what I have been taught as a Catholic … and not because I have been told by the Church that it is a necessity to being saved … the Church never said such a thing.

I also make sure consistently that I am working harder on my relationship with my Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. Only by growing in faith and love through our Lord Jesus Christ can I be saved.

Father Don Ruggero I must admit that you have patience beyond compare.

It seems the OP himself has abandoned this topic, but I do appreciate the many who have made efforts to provide accurate information about what actual Catholic teaching is regarding Marian devotion.

I would love a reference to where I can read the Church’s actual teaching as of today about Marian Devotion … I know what I know from what I have been taught when I was studying to be a nun in my early days … never did go the whole way … wound up getting married and having a child … I’m sure there is something that is up-to-date that speaks about Marian Devotion … when I want information, I usually go to The Holy See and see if I can find the answers … before this thread I never felt I needed to be taught anything about Marian Devotion more than what I have already learned … but this thread did leave me with a few questions.

Yeah, would have been a good idea not to read the whole thing. LOL
I have not read it over, but from memory I would say it is less intense than some of the others. For one thing, everyone here seems to be agreeing that the one poster is in error. His position was being defended by some Catholics who really confused things and argued with Don Ruggero about it, sometimes very snarkily.

Don Ruggero did mention some modern books on Mary at some point, but I think those were on threads that have been removed.

For anyone with a devotion to Our Blessed Virgin Mary…at Fatima Our Lady of the Rosary.

On May 13 begins the 100th Anniversary of Fatima. Our beloved Pope Francis will be in Fatima to commemorate this anniversary. Pope Francis has also granted indulgences surrounding this Anniversary year.

Pope Francis has also officially recognised a miracle of the two little Blessed children of Fatima. This may open the path to their cannonization. 😇

‘the miracle attributed to the intercession of Blessed Francisco Marto, born on 11 June 1908 and died on 4 April 1919, and Blessed Jacinta Marto, born 11 March 1910 and died 20 February 1920, children of Fátima’

That’s actually one of the things I don’t get. I can’t speak to whether that’s what happened on this thread, but I remember a thread some weeks ago where there were hundreds of posts just explaining to one person, Mr. X let’s say, that his assertion was wrong. I asked them why they were so obsessed with Mr. X but I didn’t get much of an answer beyond “Because he said _________”.

Pretty much what happened.

Apparently the moderator isn’t worried about false teachings be spread on the forum. That seems to be the general consensus around CAF these days. Makes me wonder if they’re under new ownership. Used to be that you couldn’t post links to schismatic sites, insult the Pope, or be rude to other members. Nowadays, a blind eye is turned when this is reported via the useless little triangle.
