After the hurricane and hearing the news on my radio, I felt a sort of kingship with the people left homeless because of the hurricane. I prayed hard for the people, especially the elderly and sick. It is so much to deal with. But I also have to be honest, when I watched the news and saw many compassionate people and government helping, I thought, why couldn’t I get this help when I was homless and having heart failure after heart failure and I too lost my whole household and pets. I am NOT minimizing the horror these people went through and are going through, however, the homeless in USA that are homeless not from Hurricanes and other natural disasters, get no help. the pain for both groups of people is deep and unimanginable unless you have experienced it yourself. It is 20 times worse then it even looks and sounds to loss everything and be ill.
I want to somehow help the homeless that get no help. There is a growing number of American’s who are one paycheck away from lossing everything. They fall through the cracks as I did. I am even on goverment assistance.,SSID,and still no government office could help me over summer to get a place of my own. And now, there is a real threat of not getting my check on time to pay rent and I fear being evicted. Because of the hurricane I am a victim to the government putting all their attention on the people who suffered loss from the hurricane. They are too busy to take care of us folks right now. I can not get through to SSI or Human resources for help because I am not technically a hurricane victim.
There is one thing worse then lossing your home and all you owned and pets…that is no roof over your head, especially when chronically ill. Even though my heart truely goes out to the hurricane victims and they have a long hard road ahead of them. Too hard for those elderly and ill, still, there is help.
I feel very drawn to get this help for people like me. I do not know if a bill needs to get past or what to do,but I know I must do something.
I do not mean to minimize the hurricane victims in anyway. I cried when I saw the hardship on tv…I pray daily for these dear people.
I hope you understand this.
But being in my shoes I have another perspective.
WE ALL NEED PRAYERS and HELP. I think I am the tip of the ice berg of what is starting to happen in USA. It is going to get worse. And people will be very surprised that there is really no help out there if you are sick, elderly, disabled, except if your old and sick enough to go to a nursing home. And nursing homes are where you go to die.Not a good option in most cases.
May God help us. Dear Lord, please help all the victims of the hurricane. Also, please remember the homeless and forgotten people that became homeless by no fault of their own. We are in the same boat.
