hmmm looks like she was scared off. I have pmed me and she said I dind’t know anything and I should just leave her be. I think we caught us a troll
I think she expected us to all throw up our hands and exclaim, “By Jove, you’re absolutely right! Why have I wasted my life with this Catholic nonsense when I could have been following Joseph Smith?”

I would say they were lacking something when they prayed it

I don’t read ANY BOOKS beside church ones. Sorry
And that is why you cannot see that the Moromon church is an abomination.

I think she expected us to all throw up our hands and exclaim, “By Jove, you’re absolutely right! Why have I wasted my life with this Catholic nonsense when I could have been following Joseph Smith?”
Yeah. Let’s all turn away from Jesus Christ to follow Joseph Smith.

I was this person, as a teen, raised in a sheltered life, where you believe there doesn’t exist in the entire world anything as wonderful as Joseph Smith and the current Prophet of God. Spoon fed nothing but faith promoting stories of Catholics and others converting on the spot and crying while they praise the missionaries for finding them and leading them out of darkness.

“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door.”

That’s probably because you have been a Mormon all your life.

Because I’ve read it I know it’s not.

Because I’ve read the BoM.

Who would that be? Christ said “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.” and “Lo, I am with you always (lit. in Greek “all of the Days”) until the end of the age.” You calling him a liar?

You’re right. Did so 20 years ago.

For whose were fortunate to be born into Orthodox families, come back to what? Being born in a Church nearly 2000 years old to an organization not yet two centuries old (and splintered to boot:eek: )?

Although the Vatican has gone astray, the pope there sits on Peter’s throne, and can trace his appointment, generation after generation, directly back to Christ Himself.

You bow to a “prophet” who doesn’t “prophecize” (I’m assuming that you are a Utah Mormon). So very sad:( .

Btw, beware angels of light, a warning your “prophet” should have heeded.
Although the Vatican has gone astray?
has, as in before…or has,as in now?/COLOR]

I have been a Mormon all my life and to this day I can’t believe you all are other religions! If you read the Book of Mormon you would truly see it is true. I don’t know why you all choose to read anti materials and listen to EXMormons.
Welcome liz–I see you responded a few times, so please continue to do so.

If you have been reading posts at CAF, I invite you to also read the Catholic Answers main site articles–especially the short little pamphlet “Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth”

catholic.com/library/pillar.asp

You really cant critique us unless you actually know what the Catholic Church teaches–and why we teach it–and why we claim the authoritiy to teach it… A good many of us here DO know Mormon doctrines and history–either having been one or studied it carefully–more carefully than the majority of LDS do.

👍 I can’t believe that you are not Catholic. If you honestly trust the words of Jesus himself then there would be no other denominations period. Jesus said that he would build his church on Simon Peter and the gates of hell(evil) would not PREVAIL against it ,period. He never said that their wouldn’t be evil, he said it would not PREVAIL. A matter of fact he said that good and evil would exist in the church(weeds and flowers grow together). He also said that there would be many coming in his name.So anyone who follows a different church then the Catholic Church is in a church founded by men (i.e.Luther,Zwigily,Joseph Smith ,Knox etc.) not Jesus himself. Also we do not bow down to the Pope,we recognize his seat in the liniage from Peter. After all GOD has always structured his creations with order remember in the begining he has the Sun and Moon governing the heavens, why wouldn’t he do the same for hs Church? Hmm… Answer : He did with the Pope and his council. Hopefully this can help you find your way to the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.👍

Syele,
Your comment was funny to me. I went through all of the little “classes” or talks or whatever the Mormon Missionaries call them. I read the BoM and I remember when they asked me if I believed in Josesp Smith…not Jesus Christ but Joseph Smith. I thought that was really odd. But that was off the point. When I told them that I had read the bom cover to cover and had prayed about it as they had asked and I still didn’t believe they told me it was because I wasn’t praying correctly.

It was a nice little ‘no way to win’ situation. Either I believed the bom because as I read the spirit revealed its truth to me or it didn’t and that was because I was praying incorrectly.

I should add that I did say that I believed in Joseph Smith as a character from history…not a true prophet.
I read the BoM cause my best friend was Mormon and I was trying to understand where she was coming from, I had been told that its impossible to read it from cover to cover without becoming Mormon so I was ready, but nope. didn’t work…

smiles and nods I’m sure that was it! I wasn’t praying right.

I would say they were lacking something when they prayed it

Why do you not read any other books? Is your faith in the BoM not strong enough to not be swayed by books from outside your church?

I was told since I was a young girl in primary to defend the truth to all religions. I am here because I find Catholics interesting. I work with a Catholic girl

My parents taught me ONLY to read church related materials. I’m sorry if that bothers you!
Have you ever considered that your parents may have been trying to protect you from the truths that non-church related materials may contain?

I do not tell my daughter to read only church related materials. I am confident that the Catholic faith I am passing on to my daughter is the true faith and that it will hold up against what may be found in other books.

Liz,

First you come on a Catholic Web Site and say this. I am not going to call you a troll but you are a very rude little girl. Grow up and think for yourself. Start by reading what you want and stop being a robot. As for LDS I know every little thing there is to know about it, so do what I did and search a little you are on a good start for just being here on this site. So now instead of insulting Catholics lets try and see what we can do to help you.

my advice to you my ardent mormon friend, is to read the Catholic bible, i have it right in front of me right now. messag me if you have any questions about the Catholic Faith and i will answer them to the best of my ability, i’ll ask priests, sisters, nuns, brothers, munks, whatever i need to do to convince you that your ignorant is in need of the truth that it lacks. try to understand our point of view as well instead of insisting on being only Mormon, branch out, try to understand our reasoning, then you may understand, and hopefully change your mind.
Oh, we might as well bring up that Joseph Smith “translated” the Bible, which Mormons consider the inspired Bible.

The LDS Church does accept many of the changes as doctrinally significant. However, over 600 of the more doctrinally significant verses from the translation are included as excerpts in the current LDS Church edition of the King James Version of the Bible

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Smith_Translation_of_the_Bible#LDS_View
(before someone moans Wikipedia, I’ve seen the translation etc. print. I came across the LDS KJV, it wasn’t for awhile that I realized what it was (the title page was missing). Beware!)

so beyond the usual problem of Protestant understanding of scripture, we have this twisting to deal with.

He was a character all right.😛

I feel bad for those who have lost the true gospel but there is always time to come back. I have been reading posts for about 6 months and have decided to join. I have always been interested in the whole Idea people are Catholic because they seemed a bit messed up. I mean you bow down to a Pope. So very sad.😦
you do have to accept the fact thatCatholic church is the most numerous organized Christian religion. God will judge the living and the dead…eventually. Are you God? I choose not to be LDS and you choose not to be anything other, nothing will sway our opinion, my faith is strong, so why sow hatred? do you hate me for being Catholic? do think I AM GOING TO HELL? peace be with you! sincerly…please mellow out? 🙂

I messed up. I mean you bow down to a Pope. So very sad.😦
Liz maybe you should find somwhere else to go because you are very sad. Do think that you are going to become a God also? You have problems. Go spread your hate somewhere else.

Have fun Trolling!!!

My parents taught me ONLY to read church related materials.
What are your parents afraid of? Are they not confident in their faith?

My parents taught me to read everything and find the truth wherever it could be found. They never worried that something would disprove the Catholic faith, because they knew that nothing ever could.

Welcome to the forums! I hope you enjoy your time here.

Perhaps if you could explain a bit about Mormonism we could discusses it better with you. Give me a compelling argument as to why I should join the Mormon Church.
Again it would be helpful if you would relate exactly what truth it is you are expecting us to find. Clearly you can give us a little more substance other than I’m right or wrong.
I will answer that for you estesbob! The basic claims of Mormonism are I think well-known, by someone like you at least, who is used to debating religion; but I will briefly highlight them for you again, just in case.

Joseph Smith was about 14 years old when he had his First Vision. In the part of the country that he lived, there arose a religious revival among the main Protestant sects that existed in that area, with the various factions competing with each other for converts. Joseph Smith as a young boy became perplexed and troubled about the conflicting messages that were coming from those sects; and after reading James 1:5: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” He was inspired to follow this advice, and go and inquire of the Lord in prayer to know which of the churches were right. He received a vision, in which God the Father and the Son appeared to him as two separate personages; and one pointing to the other said, “This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!” That is how Joseph Smith knew that the Father and the Son were two separate beings. That was possibly the greatest vision or revelation that anyone had received since the days that Jesus and His Apostles walked on the earth.

Several years later this was followed by many angelic ministrations in which he was instructed where to find the plates on which the Book of Mormon was engraved, and to translate them by the gift and power of God. Then the LDS Church was organized on the 6th of April 1830 by divine command, and following many other revelations and angelic ministrations, the fullness of the priesthood was restored, and many of the keys of the kingdom held by the ancient prophets, until the Church was fully organized; and when he had completed his mission, like many of the ancient prophets and Apostles of the Lord, he sealed his testimony with his blood. Today the LDS Church is the only true and living church in the world that has the full authority from God to administer valid sacraments (both for the living as well as for the dead) for the salvation of the human family. It is the Church or kingdom that Daniel say should be established in the last days that should destroy all kingdoms, and itself endure forever (Daniel 2:31–45).

This is the story of Mormonism. To some I am sure it will be an incredible and unlikely story; but to others like me who have gained a witness of it, it is the veritable truth. We believe that the truth of it can be known in only one way, by personal revelation from the Lord; hence there it the well-known promise in the Book of Mormon that if you read it and pray about it in faith, in sincerity, wanting to know the truth, that truth will be revealed to you by the power of the Holy Ghost. There are millions who have applied that test, and can testify that that promise is true—myself being one of them.

This is the “compelling story” and the “truth” that I “expect you to find” if you investigate Mormonism. It may seem an incredible story; but so was the story of St Paul at he related the account of his conversion before King Agrippa (Acts 26). But you must agree that it is a compelling story if it is true; and it surely is, just as Paul’s story was true. And there is a way that you can find that out—and that is by the revelations of Jesus Christ.
