Though the cartoon covers Mormonism fairly well (not entirely so), it is I agree, not done in good faith or with respect.
Fair enough (I agree, actually), though luckily there are plenty of videos that ARE done in good faith that show the BoM to be false in virtually all of its claims, such as this one:

(“The Bible vs. The Book of Mormon” - 1 hr, 6 minutes)

That was quite interesting… and it led me to this link… and I would like to know from zerinus or any other Mormon…is this an accurate portrayal of Mormon beliefs in any way?

youtube.com/watch?v=zy0d1HbItOo&feature=related

I am asking this in all sincerity…as I did not know this and merely want to know the truth. There is no baiting or dishonesty in my asking. Thanks. Peace!
The answer to that is no. That is an anti-Mormon cartoon, and is not an acurate portrayal of Mormon beliefs.

I can see I will not change your minds and you all pretty much hate me so I will leave. I am not a troll and I am LDS. It is fine if you don’t think so. I was just planting seeds. I’m sorry if I offended you.

Bye
We don’t hate you…that’s not our way. We don’t even know you, so how can we hate you? So you believe differently than us, we’re not the KKK, and we don’t do things that way. Ok, you’re LDS, fine, its your right…and freedom of religion is guaranteed under the Constitution… You’ve not offended me, and I doubt if you have really offended anyone.

I realized that you were “planting seeds” a while back…but you have to understand… Catholics, despite claims to the contrary, are not easy marks or targets for conversions. I think I can safely say…that those of us Catholics that come to this site or other Catholic sites…are “very Catholic” and staunch defenders of our faith and beliefs.

I will also tell you this…the old homily “You can catch more bees with honey than vinegar” is very true… (Zerinus…that was a hint:D ) Frankly zerinus…you do Mormons and injustice. Consider this…its not what you say, its how you say it that makes the impression, be it good or bad.

Thank you for the answer. I appreciate it. I have known a number of Mormons over the years…and I have read quite a bit, to include the Book of Mormon and NEVER heard anything like that…so I had my doubts about it…but was compelled to ask someone who would rightly know. I guess you/we could say that it is basically little more than an animated “Chick” tract misrepresenting Mormon beliefs. No offense was intended! Peace!

You should also read their scriptures found in the Pearl of Great Price. The doctrines found in that film are laid out there. Also, you will find nothing in the LDS scriptures regarding their temple ceremony and the beliefs involved, you have to search online for that.

And zerinus pretends like he doesn’t believe things that are taught out of his church’s religious education manuals. This has been pointed out and proven to him many times. 🤷

I googled Pearl of Great Price and found the student manual…read a little of it… not enough to comment on though. I would have to read more. Thanks.

Is it possible that he really doesn’t know…but is still a zelous follower of the LDS? It could be that he is like some Catholics, who while being very ardent in their faith and beliefs…were not properly “catechized”? (Trying only to cut him a little slack here. 🙂 ) Anything is possible.

Sometimes, yes. Other times, he chooses to answer with a partial truth.

The LDS Church stopped teaching their stranger beliefs c.1980. Their temple rites have changed as well (blood oaths taken out). Any Mormon younger than 30 was never taught the stranger stuff, and are experiencing a different temple rite, and in some ways, a different religion.

Some of both, he just flat out denies things that can be proven as taught, from lds.org. And as I said, other things he was never taught.

For example, lds believe man can become a God. You can find this easily, all throughout lds.org. Yet zerinus repeatedly denies that Mormons teach this. Who knows why. 🤷

If you had found some golden plates, on which was written information that would affect all of mankind (except Blacks) don’t you think you would take better care of those plates than did Joseph Smith?🤷

If you are going to try and plant a seed…at least water it and see what happens…😊 Bye

I have been a Mormon all my life and to this day I can’t believe you all are other religions! If you read the Book of Mormon you would truly see it is true. I don’t know why you all choose to read anti materials and listen to EXMormons.

I feel bad for those who have lost the true gospel but there is always time to come back. I have been reading posts for about 6 months and have decided to join. I have always been interested in the whole Idea people are Catholic because they seemed a bit messed up. I mean you bow down to a Pope. So very sad.😦
I have read the book of Mormon and this is what I saw:

Stories unsupported by archaeological evidence and genuinely disproven by genetic and linguistic studies.

On the other hand within the Catholic Church I’ve found teachings consistent with scripture and the earliest Christian documents. Furthermore I see no reason to leave the Church which Christ promised would never fall to the Gates of Hell.

This is a very interesting post, coming from an adherent of a religion invented by a con man, Joseph Smith.

We’re Catholic. We belong to the church founded by Jesus Christ instead of the non-Christian church founded by Joseph Smith, who was a fraud & a con man.

If you want to be Christian, contact your nearest Catholic parish and join the RCIA class. There was a former Mormon in my RCIA class which shows that it can be done. If you truly love Jesus, that’s what you will do. If you only care about your place in Mormon society, then you will stay where you are.

I don’t hate you and I doubt that the others here hate you either. You must understand that you have come to a Catholic forum asking why we all aren’t Mormons. I wouldn’t even think of going on a Mormon fourm and I expect if I did and asked why they were not all Catholics that I would get similiar responses as you have gotten here.
You don’t have any real knowledge of the Catholic faith to deny
it is in fact the truth. I hope that you will at least learn about it
before you decide that it is so wrong. I pray that someday you
will study and realize that the Catholic Church is in fact the one
true church that was founded by Jesus himself. God bless you!

even if you are a troll we love you

i know you’re LDS

Hello everyone, this is my first post and I have been very interested in the Mormon religion lately.

What I am wondering is who decided on what parts of the bible to include in their teachings and why not all of it…or do they? I see some mormons quoting St. Paul…not sure if it is accurate but is it picking and choosing and then adding the completely different ideas based on the revelation of Joseph Smith? That on its face sounds suspect to me, especially with the conditions and circumstances I have read about Joseph Smith. It was a time ripe for a new religion it sounds like.

Is your God ( I have seen mormons spell it with a “g” ) is really an exalted man who founded this planet? Are there many more like him? – or is there one Omnipotent GOD who is the original creator of all things and who can will anything into existence?

Did he want us to “earn the privilege” of being gods like him and enjoy the trappings of total control and power? I am confused on the goal of attaining a planet, spiritual children, etc. as being the main motivation for total obedience to the self-proclaimed earth
Prophet.

It sounds like the main motivation is for personal glory and recognition as a god. rather than yearning and striving towards having the deepest connection to Life and Love in all of its wondrous intimacy, in God. Do we not foretaste this with our desire for and experiences in this through our senses and relationships on earth?

God, the Father, has shown us how this could be attained… Am I correct? What about God and what he taught us through Jesus as well as what he said or did not say through the Old testament and New? Do mormons here believe what God has revealed to us though the bible?

What strikes me is this element of total obedience, the pressure and compulsion to comply with whatever the order of the day is and the harsh consequences of questioning the belief systems or leaving the religion because of a crisis of faith or suffering abuse within it ( spiritual abuse, emotional blackmail, ie: threat of hell or total exclusion from family and friends, loss of favor, or place in heaven ).

To me, this is not free will, and isn’t this is the great gift God gives us out of His love for us, his children, his beloved creation? We are free to love or not to love. He will not force us to love or obey Him. But it sounds like the Prophet and his leaders expect nothing less or suffer greatly–there is no room for questions, searching, mistakes, redemption and renewal outside the mormon faith. So, to my mind, this more sounds like spiritual coercion under threat of spiritual death and obedience out of fear-- not out of love, gratitude and generosity. How can one serve God or man with love and generosity under this threat of punishment always hovering? Is the desire that strong for this goal of being a god?

As distinct created persons I believe He wants us to exercise our intelligence, or intellect, develop our conscience and seek to follow HIm through his son, Jesus and by what he taught us, through his apostles. Any deviation from what Jesus actually said, or what the apostles taught us in His name and the tradition of faith that they handed down, would be just that, deviation.

Do mormons even believe Jesus is who he said he was and believed he spoke truth to his disciples?

Let’s see, Joseph Smith tells his buddy (who lived next door) and a bunch of stupid hill billy neighbors in upstate NY that an angel gave him golden tablets by God.

Then his gullible dim witted neighbor (I can’t remember the guy’s name, but pin head will suffice) took dictation. Here’s where it gets really funny. Smith tells his neighbor that the angel told him he cannot show the tablets to anyone. So he read from the alleged tablets out of a hat (that’s right … out of a hat). Then our gullible friend pin head took the dictations home and his wife, understanding her husband was a gullible idiot, told her husband to say the dictations were lost to see if Smith really had tablets inside of his hat (of course they planned to compare the dictations to see if they matched).

Smith was angry. Eventually after a couple weeks had past – Smith told pin head that the angel returned to him and said God was very angry. He said that God gave him new tablets because God thought the dictations may have ended up in the hands of the devil (of course we know where they wound up, pin heads wife had them).

Of course Smith had to say the tablets are similar but not exactly the same (hmmm, duhhhh wonder why). If you were wondering why Mitt Romney lost, well here’s why. Anyone who buys this story cannot be allowed to have his finger on the button.

I see some people here are considering this religion. My first reaction … YOU CAN’T BE SERIOUS? My second reaction, please PM me before you do anything stupid. I assure you this is a false religion. Joseph Smith wasn’t a prophet he was a con man and a blasphemer.

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Although the Vatican has gone astray?
has, as in before…or has,as in now?/COLOR]

Isa Almighty is an Orthodox Christian. But let’s not go down this road now. That’s another forum topic. Besides, Isa Almighty and the Catholic posters are on the same side on this topic. 👍 So let’s not get off track by starting to fight amongst ourselves.

Isa Almighty, I hope that, in lieu of “bowing down to the pope” you will join us in some “Mary worship” and “cannibalism.” 😛
