I can see I will not change your minds and you all pretty much hate me so I will leave. I am not a troll and I am LDS. It is fine if you don’t think so. I was just planting seeds. I’m sorry if I offended you.

Bye
Liz, no one hates you. 🙂

What dribble I hear. Mormonism is a cult. No one hates Mormons, the proper term is feel sorry for. You adopted the theology of a two bit con man. Like any cult its members are brain washed.

I’ve seen you guys trolling on Protestant web sites for years, now I guess you’re zooming in on Catholics (from what I hear you’re church has better luck suckering Catholics into your heresy).

Your not even willing to listen to reason or reproof, which means there is little sense in holding dialog with you. Hopefully your family (if they’re not Mormon) will hire one of those de-programmers, in my experience it’s usually the only way a feeble mind can be dragged from any cult.

Isa Almighty is an Orthodox Christian. But let’s not go down this road now. That’s another forum topic. Besides, Isa Almighty and the Catholic posters are on the same side on this topic. 👍 So let’s not get off track by starting to fight amongst ourselves.

Isa Almighty, I hope that, in lieu of “bowing down to the pope” you will join us in some “Mary worship” and “cannibalism.” 😛
:extrahappy: :extrahappy: LETS GET DOWNWITH OUR BAD SELVES!!:extrahappy: :extrahappy:

I was told since I was a young girl in primary to defend the truth to all religions. I am here because I find Catholics interesting. I work with a Catholic girl

My parents taught me ONLY to read church related materials. I’m sorry if that bothers you!
It’s pretty obvious that you don’t read anything other than Mormon materials, if you think that “Catholics bow down to a pope.”

In your first post, you were upset that non-Mormons use sights such as ExMormon, instead of reading Mormon materials to find out what the Church believes. But yet, you do the same thing, reading Mormon materials to find out what the Catholic Church believes!

Anyway, welcome to the forum. 🙂 Stay around, and you’ll be exposed to many non-Mormon websites and teachings.

I was at a church meeting last night. I got a new calling! I will back read and respond.

That cartoon video is silly and is spreading false lies! I promise to write back there is just a lot to catch up on thank you!
“False lies”? Double negative. If a lie is false, does that mean it is true? 😛

The jury is still out as to whether the original poster is a mormon. Most mormons would not close with the sentence about bowing down to the pope. It seems that this OP may just be a catholic out to slander mormons. Lets see if the OP returns, if not, we can all safely assume that the OP is a catholic wishing to bash the lds church by baiting follow catholics on this forum.
Why, if the poster is not a Mormon, does the poster especially have to be Catholic?

Lucy, WhyMe is a once-upon-a-time Catholic who is now a Mormon and often portrays Mormon and Catholic issues consistent with that change in belief. This time, it appears that to take such a convoluted position, it requires a person to twist themselves up rather like a pretzel. The scenario WhyMe has described is possible but not very probable.

The simpler and more obvious conclusion is that the OP is a Mormon who cannot withstand being called to account for the numerous flaws inherent in her religion.

The main problem with Mormonism is that it is thoroughly polytheistic. Unless it radically alters its theology it must remain beyond the pale for that simple fact.

Card’s Alvin Maker series is an alternative-history retelling of Joseph Smith in a America where folk magic works–sort of interesting how Card lets slip some background of where Joseph smith cobbled together his heresies. In the first book, Seventh Son the thinly-disguised mormon theology was so thick, I was hoping the main character Alvin would meet an unpleasant end–but I digress…

I never finished the Ender series, I was so disappointed in the last book I read I never pick up another. I’m not sure which one it was though IIRC it ended with a man dressed in overalls who basically said I did/made it all. Does this sound familiar or am I mixing up books again?

Okay I took time and read some Catholic stuff on the site today. I also was sent a link to errors in the book of Mormon which I read.

To answer someones question a while back I got a calling in the nursery teacher

I enjoyed the Alvin Maker series, and too saw the fleshing out of Mormon folk magic roots. BTW, Alvin was the name of JS older brother, who died when JS was 18 yrs old, which without question had a profound effect on JS life and teachings. He took the role of the oldest son and came up with families together forever, baptism of the dead, etc…JS claimed Alvin gave him these “teachings” in a vision.

Good! 🙂 I’m glad you’re taking the time to read the Catholic links people have sent.

Good luck in the nursery.

Liz, I can assure you that nobody here hates you.
You will find, though, that there are plenty of people who 😉 “know their onions”…Which is to say, CAF is a place where no one is going to let something like “bowing & worshipping the pope” get by…Because, you see, that simply isn’t true; its one of those myths that circulate.

Good! Reading those should give you a different perspective on what others believe.

Best wishes in working with little ones.
God bless.

Which Mormon Church do you belong too?
After the Succession Crisis which followed Joseph Smith’s murder in 1844, a number of competing hierarchies were organized that fall into the two main branches of the movement, sometimes called the “Prairie Saints” and the “Rocky Mountain Saints.”
Today, there are as many as 100 organizations claiming to be a part of the Latter Day Saint movement, most centered in Utah or Missouri. Most regard their own group, however small, to be the only legitimate Christian church. Most of these organizations are very small, but overall, but the second largest denomination, the Community of Christ, reports over 200,000 members.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (a.k.a. The Church of Jesus Christ, and the LDS) is by far the largest Mormon denomination. It is a continuation of the “Rocky Mountain Saint” branch of Mormonism.
The more liberal Community of Christ (formerly called the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) is second in size. It is a continuation of the “Prairie Saint” movement. Although generally referred to as “Mormons,” they do not use the term themselves, because of its association with polygamy and because they believe the name was not part of the original church.
Many additional small Mormon faith groups, including:
Aaronic Order: unknown membership; 6 centers; 20 ministers
Apostolic United Brethren: about 7,000 members. They disagree with the LDS’ decision to allow ordination of African-Americans and allowing women to assume leadership positions.
Church of Christ (Fetting/Bronson): about 2000 members
Church of Christ (Temple Lot): about 2400 members
The Church of Christ “With The Elijah Message,” established anew in 1929 12,500 members worldwide
Church of Jesus Christ (Bickertonite): about 2700 members
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: about 11 million members
The Community of Christ: about 250,000 members. This denomination was formerly known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints – the “RLDS Church”. It was formed in 1860 by remnants of the original church who did not make the trek to Utah. They reject certain beliefs and practices of the LDS church, including marriage sealing for eternity; they allow both men and women into the priesthood; their services are open to the public. They have about 250,000 members.
United Order Effort: a polygamy practicing group, excommunicated by the main LDS church, of perhaps 10,000 members
The Restoration Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It split from the Reorganized Church in 1991 because of the latter’s liberal theology. It is centered in Independence, Missouri, and had an estimated membership of 2,500 in mid-1996. They publish a periodical “The Restoration Advocate” six times a year.
Church of Christ -Temple Lot (Temple Lot, Independence, Missouri)- one early leader, Granville Hedrick, called Joseph Smith a “fallen prophet”. This group teaches that there has been apostasy from the restored gospel faith. This group was also involved in a lawsuit with the RLDS over ownership of the Temple Lot. By 1869 they purchased the original “temple lot” in Independence Missouri.

Answer the question they should have asked! Don’t provide meat when milk will do!

That was me who asked… 🙂 I always liked the nursery jobs.

In all fairness, you should also seek out the explanations for the things you read, from a Mormon POV. And decide if they are reasonable, or not. Faith and reason are not at odds. There is no reason they should be.

Another Mormon posted a while back an online debate between a Catholic and Mormon, if you are interested I’ll see if I can dig it up.

Is the following about a pope?Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah! Jesus annointed that Prophet and Seer.Blessed to open the last dispensation, Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.

chorus: Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven! Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.

Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren; Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Praise to his memory, he died as a martyr; Honored and blest be his ever great name!

Long shall his blood, which was shed by assassins, Plead unto heaven while the earth lauds his fame.

Great is his glory and endless his priesthood: Ever and ever the keys he will hold.

Faithful and true, he will enter his kingdom, Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.

Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven; Earth must atone for the blood of that man.

Wake up the world for the conflict of justice. Millions shall know “brother Joseph” again.

Nope. 😉

I love this Mormon hymn. It’s got nearly everything: Ol’ Joe being “martyred” (as opposed to dying in a gunfight after swilling a bottle of wine) and ascending to heaven of his own power, promises that he will come again (just like Jesus!), the concept of blood atonement, polytheism, etc. The only thing it lacks is praise for Joe’s wife-swapping and adultery.

What, no “Heavenly Mother” ? 😛
