So, you’re still in school? Have a job?

School I find to a good place to find accomplishments or areas where you particularly excel in.

Yes I am at a community college, I only have 1 semester left after that I do not know what to do. I also have a part time where I bag groceries, but I am getting sick of this job because it is very repetitive.

I am 20 years old and I feel like a failure, I haven’t won a single trophy, accomplished any remarkable feat, and I have no friends. I feel like I have let everyone in my family down including my deceased mother and I don’t want to tell anybody that I am Catholic or Christian because I will just make the faith look bad by my incompetence. I just want God to send me back in time to the year 1998 so I can do fix all my mistakes and live a good life.
Pfft.

You’re 20 years old.

It’s too early to worry about your failures. NOW is the time to be failing and learning so that when you’re in your 30’s and 40’s, you have some life lessons under your belt.

And trophies are overrated.

I was born in 1988, so I have about a decade on you. This is a thought that really hit me hard when I turned 30, but my thought was that I wanted to go back to 20 and start over.

You are 20. You can start over right now and be the best version of yourself. 20 is so young. It may not seem like it to you but as a 31 year old man who would love a redo starting at age 20, please take my advice. Set yourself some goals and go get them. I am sure someone at 40 would say the same to me.

Believe me-feeling like a failure is you’re biggest failure-and will continue to be to the extent that you don’t overcome it. Pray to God for a self-love that reflects the love He has for you. Pray to know His love.

No, it’s just that he is more popular than me.
So what? I was a dork in college. Pretty much all my friends were more popular than me (I’m a bit odd. And a huge nerd.). My wife was definitely more popular than me.

In my experience, community college is very laid-back and the people easier to talk to. Are there any clubs you can join?

Also, what is with your preoccupation with popularity? This isn’t high school.

I don’t want to cramp his style.
That sounds like nerves masquerading as altruism.

I totally cramp my wife’s style. She doesn’t mind.

Friends are bout liking each other, not about your effect on the other’s coolness.

Don’t put yourself down, @Jovian90. Go for everything you want. You won’t know what you’re missing until you try.

But what if I am not good enough for his friendship?
That’s not how friendship works, man. He’s just a dude. You’re just a dude. There’s not some algorithm to match up whether someone’s good enough to be someone else’s friend. People just like each other or don’t.

But what if I am not good enough for his friendship?
Why would you not be? Because you are not as good at one subject? If he thinks based off of that you are not worthy, then he is not someone you want to be friends with.

Thanks Lou2u, I just do know what I want to do with my life, or what my interests are?

That is very, very common, so don’t worry. Does your college have a careers adviser you could speak to?

You also get a lot out of knowing what you don’t like. You don’t enjoy repetitive work, for one. So you can consider what areas would give you more stimulation.

As for interests - I’m guessing religion is one? 🙂

Someone told me that people had levels of “coolness” and that the level of “coolness” was based on how popular you are or how talented you are, thus this person said that you could only be friends with people at your level of “coolness”.

Someone told you wrong.
