I Want To Redo My Life

Someone told me that people had levels of “coolness” and that the level of “coolness” was based on how popular you are or how talented you are, thus this person said that you could only be friends with people at your level of “coolness”.
That person was talking absolute rubbish. That’s such a sad way of looking at the world, and at other people. People really are not so superficial and shallow as that.

Some are. Don’t want to be friends with those folks. Happily, it seems that we can clearly identify one such person and cross him off of Jovian90’s friend hunt list.

Religion is one of my interests I have been reading the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. I use to be into dinosaurs, though I think I am to old for that.

I’m a 20YO guy in college and I struggle a lot with doubts and fears, anxiety and depression. I have to remind myself frequently to leave the darkness and enter into the light because I am worth it. I may not see why always, but I know Jesus died for me because I’m worth it.

Once you find your niche and your friend group you can rely on, the world suddenly seems easier. It is no coincidence our faith is communal, it is necessary that we seek out and find others. The challenge is to find others in positive interactions and not negative attention seeking moments.

God Bless my friend, know you are not alone, and if you ever want to chat just send me a PM.

Your brother in Christ,
Matt

Dinosaurs are fascinating at whatever stage of life! See, you have an interest in religion and I’m guessing since you’re posting here you also have an interest in learning and an interest in discussing what you know with others. Reading as another hobby, I’m guessing 🙂.

Own what you like! Don’t apologise or dismiss it for fearing of being ‘uncool’. The coolest thing is to be yourself, and confident within yourself.

Nonsense! Try telling that to a working paleontologist. Who is likely to be at least several years older than you…
Chaos theorists would agree, though. Because life, uh, uh finds a way.

Thanks for this kind post, another problem I have is that my interests keep changing, I use to like dinosaurs then I liked learning about the solar system and Jupiter was my favorite planet, but now I think I am interested in religions like Christianity(Catholicism) and countries, in fact I made up my own countries drew there maps designed their flags and made up their history.

I’m the kind of dork that is too lazy to watch shows or read stuff and instead spends time my time watching YouTube videos and reading the wikis of various franchises. I have a bunch of half-finished projects all over my house and on my computer because I get bored of whatever I’m doing quickly. I still have a friend because dorks tend to find each other one way or another. CAF is a good way to do that. I’m sure you’ll find one.

Similar, but instead of Youtube videos it’s books. Drives my wife crazy; we’ll just have an Amazon box with three books show up on random days. We’re running out of places to put them. I end up only reading like half of them. Plus I read four or five of them at once so my books are out in various rooms around the house and she never knows what she can put away and what I’m still working on.

That sounds amazing, truly it does! So perhaps you could consider finding a job that would let you use your creativity in some way? Not something repetitive.

I don’t know honestly but I was thinking about something in political science.

Dude, there are always going to be people who are better than you at something, and people who are worse than you at something. I recommend that you find a cheap used copy of a paperback called “Feeling Good” by Dr David Burns and read it thoroughly and maybe do some of the written exercises. It changed my thinking patterns and my life. It will help you too.
You can also pray the novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help and she will help you as well. It starts today.

You might want to look around for a hobby that you develop skills in.

One of my degrees is in public policy. Never used it; went into engineering instead. Nonetheless, loved getting the degree. My first political philosophy course was incredibly enlightening. Occasionally I think about leaving engineering to go into the think tank world, but I don’t want to take the pay cut it would take to get in on the ground floor in that world.

It’s a really cool world to be in if you are interested in it. My wife works in it and we get to go to tons of cool events and meet lots of cool people.

Thanks for the advise, I suppose that I should move on but it’s hard because any time I look back on my life I am reminded of all my failures.
Here are your options, given that you’re just 20 years old and have a whole life ahead of you. You have two options.
  1. Learn from your mistakes and failures and so grow from them so that you will go through life well in your 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and 50’s.
  2. Whine about it on an Internet forum to people who can’t really help you, and stay this way through your 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s.
You are currently doing #2. Even if we are to grant that you ARE a failure today, whether you REMAIN a failure is up to you. So you’re incompetent today. So what? Will you take steps to build some competence, or will you also just whine about that here? Because no one here can make you competent. Keep up what you’re doing and you WILL remain incompetent. But do something about it and you WILL overcome it.

I hope you’re not one of those boo-hoo-woe-is-me posters who do exist on these boards. Whining about how bad other people are without really considering that they have to look at themselves to see where they can learn and grow.

You’re 20, so you have a chance to man up and set a direction for your life. Whining will get you nowhere.
