I don’t know honestly but I was thinking about something in political science.
Don’t do it. Everyone has a political science degree and no one actually uses it (myself included.)

Honest advice: you’re a young man who seems to need some structure and discipline and doesn’t have a clear plan for what he wants to do. Go join the military for a few years.

Sounds like me. I also partially read a lot of books. I feel proud that I read 3 whole books since I graduated in March.

I was on pace to read 60-80 this year until the DC metro shut down for the summer repair work (I read on the train). Now I’m basically only able to read on the weekends.

Yes I have asperger’s disorder.
Okay, so you say the military is out, but Asperger’s leaves a lot of other career paths open. Look around, figure out what you’re good at, figure out what you want to do, try some jobs, learn the skills, practice, put in the necessary time and energy, learn from your mistakes, and you’ll be fine!

Sweet. That is what I want my life to be like when I finally have a normal 40 hour job.

It’s partly a coping mechanism. The DC commute and craziness stresses me out terribly; reading calms me down. That and a nice dram.

Everyone wants a redo on life to some aspect Jovian,

though being 20, you have a better chance at changing your life than me as I am now in my early 40s. Time doesn’t favor those who are aging . So competitively speaking from a hiring stand point,99% of the time I am going to get passed up for a job as a new hire versus someone like yourself who is 20. It shouldn’t be like that, but reality is different than this gushy life is just so peachy keen an great attitude and just hang in there it will get better.

You want a reliable friend that wont let ya down ever, getting a Dog ( if you are not allergic and can handle the responsiblity ) is the best answer, plenty of dogs in need of real rescuing from a Pound, or no kill shelter. More over they require physical activity , which in turn leads to eventually bumping into someone who also is a dog owner.

Anyhow Jovian, hope things turn around for you sooner than later, I’d trade my problems for yours any day of the week.

An ya don’t really let anyone down until you completely stop trying to make your life better. or someone elses. As long as you do something once a week to better yourself, you are at least trying.

I do agree though, 1998, heck all of the 90s was just flipping awesome sauce. Started hating life right when 2000 came rolling in , and the future doesn’t seem to be getting any better.

I used to read a lot even out of school, but I just started to lose interest recently. Except for spiritual books and maybe some papers on some composers, I kind of stopped.

You loved the 1990s too, the 90s are my favorite decade of the 20th century.

Maybe not the best statement for a thread in which “cheer up, bucko” is the overriding theme.

Thanks for all of these great posts, I have to go to soon so I will not post for about four hours, see you all when I get back.

I understand what you mean. I’m in my mid 20’s and last year, I decided to do a whole career change and I’m going back to school to become an X-Ray Tech. I wish I had done it sooner but, I know God helped me to realize what I was called to do on His time :)😃

Don’t be hard on yourself, our failures contribute as much if not more to our character than our victories. You have been lovingly created in God’s image, no one is more important to Him than you.
For many years I felt as if I wasn’t a good enough Christian to even go to church. But it doesn’t work that way - church is a hospital for sinners who want to improve.
I’m now 49, Catholic, a husband and a father to an amazing daughter. My failures got me there, not my awesomeness, to be sure.
We love you, it’s time to love yourself. You have as much right to God’s graces as any human that ever walked the earth.
God bless you!

If I could go back to 17 for a redo, I would:
  • Brush and floss my teeth more diligently
  • Keep in touch with old friends
  • Learn to play a musical instrument well
  • Learn to speak Spanish fluently
  • and lots more.
I’m 60 now and I guess I can still do some of that.

Oh man, if I could go back and learn Spanish instead of German…

Believe it or not, German hasn’t done me much good in the construction industry.
