“If you do not believe that Blessed Mary is the Mother of God, then who do you believe Jesus Christ is?”
*
*This is the question the OP asked when he started this thread and this is the question some of us are wanting to hear. It has been asked by more than one Poster and yet we never get an answer.

If certain Posters continue to have side-tracked conversations then we will never get an answer. So what is the point in participating in a thread if people ignore the subject?

I repeat: we know the Catholic answer and we are looking for the Protestant answer. I, for one, am very interested.

🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷

IMO, you’re putting two things together that don’t necessarily go together: Mary the mother of God and who Jesus is.

BTW, I believe I’ve answered, with my opinion, these in several posts.

Only a Jehovah witness can answer this!! They will say Jesus is not God!! They will say Jesus was created by God. Who was {a God} who is known as his Son. They say satan is known as a God. Although he is a angel. Jesus is also known as Michael the Angel also. This is why they say mary is not the mother of God.
This, shaky, is exactly the conclusion that logically occurs if one denies Mary is the Mother of God. It starts with, “Mary can’t be the mother of God” and, inevitably ends with “Jesus is not God.”

That’s just the logical conclusion when one denies Mary as* theotokos*. :sad_yes:

As you might expect, I disagree with the conclusion you speak of.

BTW, has anyone looked at how many people the NT records that called Jesus Lord? If you believe Elizabeth equated Lord with God, do you also believe the others knew Jesus was God?

Didn’t the centurion declare He was? “Truly, this man was the son of God.”

And wasn’t there another centurion who said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter my house, but only say the word and she shall be healed.”

Sure they used those terms, but did they understand that Jesus is the Creator of the Universe?

You’re changing the question now.

You asked if anyone else in the NT called Jesus Lord.

At least 3 people did.

Oh, and Peter did, too.

So now we’re up to 4.

And, John the Baptist clearly knew Jesus was Lord.

That’s 5.

And His mother, of course.

That’s 6.

Don’t forget Thomas “my Lord and my God”
And there was the Canaanite woman who asked to be healed in Matthew.

And the man whose son was afflicted with seizures.

And the 2 blind men sitting on the road.

Beg to differ with you, PM, I did not change the question but asked a follow up question. There’s several more in the Gospels that called Jesus Lord. That’s why the follow up question: did they know Jesus was God? This question comes from the idea Elizabeth call Jesus God (Lord).

How many of these used “Lord” interchangable with “God”?

*Why did you answer for the JWs? Why not tell us what you believe?
🙂

Seems you’re making an assuption or a judgment. I can assure you I’ve thought on things for a long time. I have no doubt that some of my understandings fall short of perfection. I can assure you my thoughts, while may be partly incorrect, are not ravelled.
*I am not sure I know what you mean by that last sentence. I am not suggesting that your thoughts are entangled - no, I just want you to explain your understanding. So far there have been some comments and at one time I thought I understood and then you said something that proved me wrong.

*I should have read this post before I answered the previous one.

Dokimas you quite rightly say that Mary is the Mother of God (because she was the Mother of Jesus and Jesus is God the Son) and then you put into question “who Jesus is” by saying that these two things “don’t necessarily go together”. See what I mean? What do you mean by saying that these two things do not go together?

So then, who do you believe Jesus Christ is?

*That is a good question Dokimas but let us first get Elizabeth’s declaration out of the way. Let’s sort that one out first.

As I’ve already shown you and Zarthan - and which you’ve both dismissed because you had no good response - is the the following:**

Regarding the Greek words, “Kurious” and “Adoni” - I have proven you wrong because Elizabeth wasn’t speaking Greek or Hebrew. She spoke ARAMAIC and the word she used is "MarYah”, which is the Aramaic for “LORD JHVH” (Yaweh - GOD). The Holy Spirit inspired her to call the child in Mary’s womb, “God”.

Your argument is not even supported by most Protestant theologians.

**Game over, Doki . . . **
