I am convinced that the false paradymn of “One True Church” that Catholics feel is so important has no meaning to HIm…
If it had no meaning to ¨HIm¨ then there would be no mention of Church. No matter how you interpret the words upon this rock I will built My Church, the fact remains that He intended to build a Church not multiple Churches.
You do everytime you defend a Catholic who kneels before a statue, lights a candle and prays to St Jude.
Definition of worship is to treat something like a god. To be idolatry it has to be worshiped as a god. NONE of the things you mention is thought of as being a god.

Christ has built His Church which will be His bride His Church does not fit into the box you have created for it.

Thank you for proving my point. Early Christians went to their death because they refused to light incense to ceasar.

This is ***not ***a thread for people who have only obtained & researched information about the Catholic Church from non-Catholic sources.

Knowledge of Catholicism does not make anyone Catholic - or any other kind of Christian.

You don’t know how many times people on CARM would post a picture of this and say “LOOK! Proof that they worship idols!”

The ex-Catholics (or insert any religion here) always know better, or what we really believe and practice.
I wish I had a buck for everytime I seen that over there.😉

well I will not be there for a while, I been banned again:p

Reasons why…
  1. There are certain teachings of the Church which I do not agree with, such as contraception. Thus, I wouldn’t willingly ally myself to the Church knowing that I’d disobey it and never take Communion. That’s just silly.
  2. I don’t know if the Catholics or Orthodox are ‘correct’.
  3. I don’t know if the Christian God is the correct God (if there is such a thing).
  4. I don’t know if God exists at all, but I can’t rule it out.
I don’t know. Hence, agnostic.

I am in the middle of RCIA right now, and I have also been “educating” myself here on CAF. So far RCIA is good and I my previous teachings on the Bible and God are aligned for the most part. However, we aren’t to the “Catholic” part of RCIA yet, we are mostly going over the Bible now. But, from what I have learned on CAF I don’t know that I will be able to convert. There’s a lot I admire and like about Catholicism, but there’s a lot I just cannot reconcile with. I have tried to read up on the things I have big issues with, but so far I just can’t go along with it. I will wait until the end of RCIA to make a fair decision, and besides, my priest does a better job sharing the Catholic religion than some of the overzealous posters on here (of course that’s his job and he’s been better trained 🙂 )

Maybe when he explains things I will “get it” in my heart. But so far, I haven’t. On a side note, must you believe every single thing the CC teaches to become Catholic? Because I know many Catholics who use birth control, have had IVF, divorced, etc and if they don’t follow those teachings then can I not follow the teachings I have problems with and become Catholic?

Early Christians also went to death for their belief in the Real Presence in the Eucharist. They were condemned as cannibals for believing in it.

The Catholic church is the ONLY Church that fits the description of the one Church that Christ established.

SCkcd, Yep,why would you if you can’t believe it, I pray that you will accept it all. The Church teaches the truth, all of it. Listen to the priest.
As for the Catholics you know If they practice birth control
they are certainly being disobedient and sinning. If they divorce and remarry they are living in adultery. Do not allow them to influence you to sin. They are wrong and if you follow in their example you will be wrong also, I am sorry that this has been your experience. With out naming names talk to your priest about it. He will be able to settle your mind better than anyone else, God bless you Sckcd and be with you on your journey. :thumbsup:Carlan

Neither ceaser nor pharoh were considered gods in the eyes of the faithfull. You claim the statue of the lady of fatima is not a god so you regard it the same as the early faithfull yet your behavior is not anything they would do So yes you have proven my point.

Faithfull good Cristians went to their death denying Catholic teaching on the eucharist They were condemned by Rome for denying it. We are talking about idaolatry I know it is difficult for you to stay on topic but that is what I am talking about.
YOu as most Catholics have a deficient understanding of what The Church is.

Eh… it’s quite common knowledge that pharaoh was considered an incarnation of the god Horus.

And, unfortunately for you - we ARE the Church. You are a seperated member of that Church. Nobody who calls themselves “faithful Christian” can deny the eucharist. It’s an oxymoron.

Tell me something - did Jesus establish the church you belong to? How about the Protestant denomination down the road that believe different things than your Church? How about the tens of thousands that disagree with your denomination?

NOPE - He established ONE Church - the Catholic Church. We have Scripture, Tradition, history and the writings of the Early Church to back it up.
At best - all you have is a short 500 year history of prideful rebellion - and arrogance . . .

Yep. And the Cult of Ceaser was almost like the worship of Rome. It was the beginnings of the idea of the king as the state

👍 the last sentence is the best summary of Protestant history I have ever seen!

Of course the faithful did not recognized them as gods. That is why the Christians were killed. That is why they did not offer incense. What behavior? You avoid definitions. Give me a definition from a neutral source not examples. I gave you a definition from
Webster
2 : reverence offered a divine being or supernatural power; also : an act of expressing such reverence
You said that the Christians went to their death for not offering Caesar incense To do so would have acknowledge him as a god. So your example proves what I am saying. Under your statements, men may not go down on their knee to propose. You may not kiss the picture of a loved one or even have the picture. Then there is gardening better bend over to pick that weed. Ops wait bowing is another form of worship. Better remain standing. Oh oh another form of worship 🤷

This is why I do not respond to these posts anymore. We are invited to respond to a question, and then set up for the kill.

Baiting for the kill may be appropriate for hunting and fishing, but it is not an appropriate thing to do to fellow Christians.

I did study Catholicism, RCIA, and even served as an organist/musician for a time in a Catholic Church. Why did I not become Catholic? I’ll be damned if I will tell you and be subject to getting beaten up for it.

Still waiting for belief. I also have a few problems with some minor things in the catholic faith, nothing serious though.

This seems historically inaccurate. Will you provide a source for this claim? Idolatry? A definitions please. Deficient understanding? The Church IS the Catholic Church since Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to protect it. No other existed from then until now.
