Lots of interesting ideas and data on this one. I’ve been a firm believer for as long as I’ve had a thought on the issue that rampant illegal immigration is detrimental to everyone involved - the immigrant as well as the citizens of the country receiving the immigrants. You can’t just start taking in all the illegal immigrants and start talking about immigration reform when clearly nobody is taking into consideration the citizens already here.
Beyond that, though, I think that being angry about the immigration situation is often a righteous anger. People are being demoralized all around, but I think the anger is being directed at the wrong place. This government, and many governments around the world, are very, very good at getting people to fight with each other. This is a prime example. Create two sides, one for amnesty and/or immigration reform; the other questioning the idea and/or proposing alternatives, all the while the powers that be are dictating to either side what the other side believes without either “side” coming to a discussion about the real problem.
Not every issue is isolated; many issues are often tied together, and frequently one issue will give rise to others. The government of the United States is not what it started off as; it has been changed for the worse, as evidenced by the sheer volume of animosity that is rampant among its citizens - and non-citizens - every day. What it all comes down to is money. Surprise, surprise. This government has none - it’s vapor… an idea, nothing tangible. All this country has is debt, and that’s an important thing to remember. The citizens of the USA are so deeply in debt that it’s hard to keep the debt ball rolling. We don’t use a gold standard any longer, so instead debt is traded as if it were gold. People, and the level of debt they are willing to assume, have become the “gold” that is traded. This country NEEDS more people to take on debt so that it can continue to trade and sell that debt. Why do you think so many in government are shouting for amnesty of millions upon millions of illegal immigrants? These poor people will be used to feed the debt monster just like the citizens before them. Sounds like Mammon is running the show.
We have people reminding us that slavery has been abolished. Has it? When so many are enslaved to debt, I can’t say that it has been abolished. As well, I can’t say I feel comfortable saddling millions of unsuspecting immigrants with the same weight that so many of us have willingly taken upon our shoulders - oftentimes unnecessarily. They think they are coming here to earn more, when what will happen is they will be sold into debt slavery. I just pray that the majority of them will avoid it, but when it’s so easy, so tempting to take out a loan for that shiny new toy, I have my doubts that many of them will be able to resist.
It’s sad, and I think our efforts would be better spent trying to see the real problem. The problem isn’t the immigrants themselves - they’re people, too, and I don’t think anyone here has denied that. The problem isn’t American citizens, either. We’ve been pitted against each other to believe that the other is the problem, when all along the man behind the curtain is orchestrating something much more sinister. The more we all fight with each other, the more garbage seems to come down the pike at us.
