The answer to this thread is simple. The “Universal” Church, begun by Christ upon Kepha, has continued without interruption. Many, including the Orthodox, have gone their own way. Only the original stands.

I wonder if the indecisive would have so much difficulty embracing the truth if the Church was named “Faith Fellowship”? But, once they hear “Catholic”, it all falls apart for them. Let the Holy Spirit illumine their hearts. Amen.

Dose anyone know much about the Orthodox Holy fire?
Dose it actualy come from Jesus tomb and light only Orthodox torches? Im sure there is video of this.
I know a little about it.

I’ve never heard that it lights only Orthodox torches. I think whoever told you that was just confused.

Huh?
Where do “Orthodox” go instead of the Magisterium of the Church for infallible pronouncements of dogma?

Who is the “you” in the phrase, “Whoever listens to you listens to me. Whoever rejects you rejects me. And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.” (Lk-10:16)

I certainly DID get the quote (VERY) wrong, but (miraculously enough!) I did FIND IT! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay! 🙂

Ooopsie! Silly me.

St. John died around 90 AD. He had followers, two of them are St. Polycarp of Symnerean, and St. Ignatius of Antioch.

These men were not Apostles, they were Bishops. They held Apostolic Sees in their Church.
Apostolic Sees = meaning ?

No offense intended, but did you not know about the Annointing of the Sick, at times called Extreme Unction or Last Rights?

It uses that passage as one of its basis. It consists of prayers and annointing, with the laying on of hands, It may also include Confession and Communion.

The Catholic CHurch has always had that.

OH NO!!! not a mormon thread take over!!!

Clearly it is between Catholic and Orthodox.

Mormons are nice people.
But what Jesus Christ built on the Apostles canot be destroyed.
Therefore it canot be restored.

Anyway

The main issue is Infallibility.
Are the Orthodox correct on this matter?
Was the power to bind and lose not given to all the Apostles?

And was Holy fire not recognized as a miracle before the Catholic Orthodox split?

Apostolic Sees = meaning ?
An Apostolic See is any episcopal see whose foundation is attributed to one or more of the Apostles. Examples are the Churches in Thessalonica and Corinth and the many others founded by Paul the Apostle, such as the Maltese Church. Other examples are those that became classified as the Pentarchy:

Rome, in Italy, from the Apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul.
Constantinople, now Istanbul in present-day Turkey, from the Apostle Saint Andrew.

Alexandria, in present-day Egypt, from Saint Mark the Evangelist, who, although he is not called an apostle in the New Testament, is said to have been one of the Seventy Apostles and to have been commissioned as an apostle when he accompanied Saint Paul and Saint Barnabas in their apostolic journeys.

Antioch, in present-day Turkey, from the Apostle Saint Peter.
Jerusalem, in present-day Israel, or Palestine, from the twelve apostles themselves as the original Church and also a successor of the Apostle Saint James.

“The Apostolic See” is used in the singular to refer to the See of Rome, referring tot the Pope’s status as successor of the Apostle Peter.

Christian history is rich in Catholicism. It has Catholicism written all over it. It’s 2,000 yrs old.

really.
Clearly it is between Catholic and Orthodox.
Both Churches are Apostolic in origin but only One is the One Church founded by Jesus Christ because he only gave one key of the Kingdom to Peter.
Mormons are nice people.

Correct Jesus build his Church upon the Apostles and Peter. He gave Peter the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and the authority to bind and lose. He also gave the authority to the rest of the Apostles in Matthew 18:18, but he did not gave them the keys. Jesus also promised that the gates of hell shall not prevail against his Church. This means that it will not teach error or depart from the truth. The Church is the pillar and bulwark of truth as St. Paul stated in his letters to Timothy.

There is no historical proof of the Apostacy. There is no need for restoration that Mormons claim because if what they claim is true then Jesus’ promised is a big LIE. It would mean that the “GATES OF HELL DID PREVAIL AGAINST HIS CHURCH.”

Of course we know that Jesus is not a liar. There is only one liar, Satan, the Evil One (and no he is not the spirit brother of Jesus).
The main issue is Infallibility.
Are the Orthodox correct on this matter?
They are correct on most issues but their denial of Papal Primacy falls short. They only recognized 7 Ecumenical Councils.
Was the power to bind and lose not given to all the Apostles?
The power to bind is lose was given first to Peter and then the rest of the Apostles. Only Peter had the keys of the kingdom not the other 11 Apostles.
And was Holy fire not recognized as a miracle before the Catholic Orthodox split?
Well, the Holy Fire would be consider a private revelation. It is believed by many Eastern Orthodox Christians and perhaps some Eastern Catholics.

You’re not making any sense.

Do you think the Orthodox have no Magisterium?

How do the Orthodox have a Magisterium without the Pope? Or would the valid bishops still be called an ordinary level of Magisterium (although I think they’d be non-infallible since they can’t teach “in union” with the Pope)? I honestly don’t know 😛

(No doubt it was just an honest mistake. )
OK. Just answer this question, if you can:

That question doesn’t make any sense, just as it wouldn’t make sense for an Eastern Orthodox person to ask “Where do Roman ‘Catholics’ go for infallible pronouncements of dogma if they don’t have a Magisterium?”

So, are you saying that “Orthodox” go to “THE Magisterium” (whatever that is) for infallible pronouncements on dogmatic matters?

Do the Orthodox have a Governing body?

A group of bishops that rank higher then the others, alowing that Governing body to make decisions effecting the whole church?

You assume that a “governing body” implies “a group of bishops that rank higher then the others”; but actually in both Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy (or should I say Roman “Catholicism” and Eastern “Orthodoxy”) all bishops are involved in governing the church.
