This sort of thing is not an uncommon fund raiser in the US.
Thanks for pointing this out @TheLittleLady, you just said everything I needed to know about the author.Dr Marshall was on the edge of my attention, I would occasionally read his stuff, struck me as arrogant but that is not a deal killer for me.
Then he mocked seminarians for baking gingerbread.
This mockery was at the level of a 12 year old playground bully. Nope. This scratched the surface to reveal plain old ugly “Red Pill/MGTOW” attitudes.
I have to say, this sort of encapsulates my worst fears about what the book could be like. I used to like Taylor Marshall’s writings, but he seems to be going more and more into conspiracy theory territory as of late. If this book is a continuation of that trajectory, I think I’ll pass. This review sums up the many, many problems with Marshall’s book.
This is a bit more of a friendly critique.Another review which I find helpful - Taylor Marshall’s “Infiltration” byFr. Dwight Longenecker.
A dose of reality can be healthy. Pointing out the problems can help spiritual warriors identify the enemy. That’s something a book like this can contribute.
Unfortunately, it is much more likely to throw red meat to disgruntled traditionalists. It is more likely to feed our need to blame other people for the world’s problems and forget to criticize ourselves. In other words, conspiracy theories feed self righteousness and our tendency to shift blame to shadowy figures far away. This is not good. Really not good for the soul.
This shows the low respect that some Catholics have for the Roman Catholic priesthood. This sort of thing is not an uncommon fund raiser in the US.
The Catholic priest is the one who has given up his life to be a witness for the teachings of Our Lord. By his ordination he has the power to change the Bread and Wine into the Body and Blood of Christ. He has the power to forgive sins. He teaches us to respect human life and to oppose abortions. Now in today’s Church we find that there are Catholics who go around throwing pie in the face of the priest. Please tell me how this shows our respect, admiration and gratitude for the sacred office of the priesthood.Gets them ready for the pie-in-face, dunking booths, etc that they will do for parish fund raisers for the rest of their pastoral lives.
Well, you are obviously a proponent of forced fun because you are using the same arguments proponents do.I know that back in my corporate America days, I have been “forced” to participate in team building exercises because I felt I had to.
Having worked for parishes now for a long time, Seminarians are expected to show up and participate in fundraisers, “fun-raisers”, things they might not pick for themselves but that make a good PR story. Gets them ready for the pie-in-face, dunking booths, etc that they will do for parish fund raisers for the rest of their pastoral lives.
Learning to be a good sport is important for a priest.
In other words it is a joke. Just like the clown Mass. This is one thing which is wrong with how some Catholics approach their religion today. IMHO, the Catholic priesthood and the Catholic religion is not a joke. It is something that Catholics should be taking very seriously and with the utmost respect.Honestly, this is something done in good fun.
I can honestly say I understand where @TheLittleLady and @AlNg are both coming from. No, this is not anything like a Mass.
It is a fun thing that is done at a picnic or festival.
Of course you are absolutely right.A priest should be respected at all times for the office he holds. Whilst he is still a man, he has been set aside by God and consequently should be treated at all times with respect.
Isn’t that the point? It creates a closer relationship based on a playful love instead of a servile fear.it befriends them to some people but potentially diminishes their authority with others.
I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.
This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.
No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command you.
I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.
It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.
This I command you: love one another.
John 15: 11-17
No, that’s not what I meant. I’m not talking about “servile fear.” Any priest who pushes “servile fear” needs to be defrocked.phil19034:![]()

In any case, Marshall (and/or the group behind his book) displays marketing genius. Within hours of the publication of the book, there were over 800 reviews on Amazon, each and every one overwhelmingly positive. You’ll remember I mentioned the list of some 2,000 marketing team members in the back of the book. If you are looking for evidence of a conspiracy….
Something being popular doesn’t make it non-idiotic, especially since the people who bother to leave reviews are probably already his fans. The Kardashians are some of the most popular people in the world, judging by their social media presence. Doesn’t mean they have anything intelligent or coherent to say. And Dr. Marshall having a wife and kids has nothing to do with whether his book is well-researched.This is an off beat scathing criticism of the book, rudely calling it an idiot’s guide, which is at variance with the extremely high ratings that the book gets from amazon readers. Dr. Marshall is an incredible person with a beautiful wife and eight children
Sorry Mr,. Lawyer but you are wrong as so many other lawyers have been wrong. When a book gets excellent reviews by so many hundreds of people who have bought and read the book, and so few negative reviews, it does say something.saying “it’s popular and also he has a family” doesn’t prove anything.
