Is God's Love unconditional?

By not believing in him, people are thrown into a place called hell for infinity.

That’s not love.
Wrong. God does not throw anyone anywhere. Those in hell put themselves there.

At least not as you define love. However God IS LOVE.

How is this nonsense?

God loves us so much that He allows us to freely choose to obey Him, or not. We are not forced to meet His demands.
Some are induced into belief under threat. Believe and receive salvation. Unbelief warrants eternal damnation.

So, God is bad and mankind is good, holy ? Who is your spiritual advisor ?
The above quote is your reply to what I said:

"Would a parent punish their child for infinity, for having committed a finite sin?

None would, God does."

Parent’s don’t punish their children forever, yet God punishes his children for eternity.

My argument is if fallible humans can forgive their children for not loving them…why can’t God?

This is your belief, not mine. I’m not saying anything about being Holy. I’m specifically talking about Gods inability to forgive his children for not believing in him.

You misunderstand, or misspeak. God does forgive his children for their unbelief and ALL other sins.

Study the life and teachings of Christ … to find out how. Only in Christ can we be forgiven, and be allowed to know & commune with the Father in Unconditional love.

Your not addressing the point…in every example I provided, it was specifically God doing the killing and violently.
I suggest you move to the New Testament.

Are you really seeking…or are you just here to argue?

Except God has a special place for those who reject him…hell. You mis-understand the contradiction of a benevolent being accepting the condemnation of his children for infinity. ( and in agony to boot, the LAKE OF FIRE)

Humans tend to think in either/or terms.

God’s ways / thoughts are not ours. When you put yourself in judge of God, having only human understandings … you err.
I’m not judging God. This is a nice-sounding phrase often used by well-meaning people with little thought about what it really means. Can you show me where in Scripture or the Catechism it says anything about any love being unconditional much less God’s love? There is no real love I’m aware of that isn’t demanding.

I There is no real love I’m aware of that isn’t demanding.
Because you only know human love. We only truly know what we have experienced in life.

God doesn’t demand we love him. God ‘courts us’ with his love. He points us to Christ as the one who truly exhibited unconditional love. We weren’t there 2000 years ago to witness the Cross … but, we have the testimony of others who did.

Take God’s Word (Christ) on faith … and Christ will reveal unconditional love to you. Faith always preceeds the proof. Why ? Because if God had to prove himself/Christ to you first … you wouldn’t need Faith would you ?

? Because if God had to prove himself/Christ to you first … you wouldn’t need Faith would you ?
Then why the need for any of Christ’s miracles? Why would Christ have even bothered, or the Biblical authors have thought the visible miracles important to include, if as you say, God / Jesus have no need to prove themselves and all you need is faith?

Argue? Is this not the apologetics area?
Yes and I believe everyone has pretty much answered your question. You just don’t like the answer so we keep rehashing the same thing. You said your piece, everyone else said theirs.
So, were to ignore the God of the old testament?
It doesn’t have anything to do with ignoring. The Old Covenant was fulfilled with Jesus. If one chooses not to accept that sacrifice that is his/her FREE WILL. However, you must accept it for salvation. If you want to put forth that as a condition technically I suppose you would be correct. That does not mean, however, that God does not love you.

If we want to have a loving relationship with God, we have to keep his commandments. “If you love me, keep my commandments.” Those are conditions he places on our love for him. If we don’t keep his commandments, we don’t love him.

Because SOME witnessing those miracles did believe on him. Others couldn’t overcome their Pride and accept a Jewish Carpenter as God.

And, the accounts of those many miracles did make their way into the Gospels … for us to read and consider in forming our Faith.

But, Christ only came once … we today can’t expect him to come to us and perform a personal miracle to prove himself to us. Today … our proof comes AFTER we demonstrate Faith.

How convenient a stipulation for a supernatural God you can’t see, all while living in a natural world.

You know seeker, I don’t know why my fellow believers feel the need to tap dance around this. My answer to this, with all due respect, is get over it, deal with it. All of life is this way. If I don’t do what my mom and dad tell me to do when I’m 5 years old, I receive some sort of punishment that let’s me know they mean business. If I do a good job at work, they’ll give me a raise. If I commit a crime and get caught, I’ll go to jail. So yes, heaven and hell are part of the reality we have to deal with. At least its something most folks can understand. I know you didn’t ask to be part of it. Neither did I. It’s God’s reality. Relax and try to enjoy the ride.

After reading your thoughtful post, this is what I am hearing:

Although I believe it, I can’t prove it and I absolutely refuse to think about it beyond simple observation.

I personally don’t know if it is. After all, if it was totally unconditional, then why does He require us to worship Him?

I’m sorry if you got that out of my statement. I’m not sure what you mean by “it”. But if by “it”, you mean God’s existence…let’s say…I ask myself what is less absurd…the idea that inanimate matter formed itself into a single cell amoeba (a living architecture that is mobile, digests food, and reproduces)…or the idea of a higher intelligence behind it. Inanimate matter knows nothing about anything. And being inanimate, did not assemble itself into the simplest living organism. What does it know about reproduction? It’s not even fully understood by human intelligence. To me, an architecture is evidence of an architect.
