Very interesting. I wonder how influential these particular imams are? I notice they are all in Canada except for one in America.
Here is a link where you can read the fatwa: theamericanmuslim.org/tam.php/features/articles/20_north_american_imams_issue_fatwa_against_terrorists/0017835

And some salient points:
Gracesofia, Imagine your country is now overwhelmed with muslims and they are the majority.

DO YOU SERIOUSLY THINK THERE WILL BE IMAMS TO STAND UP AND START THESE FATWAS AND RISK THEIR LIVES FOR YOU WHEN THEY THEMSELVES ARE SWAMPED BY MUSLIMS (SOME UNDECLARED EXTREMISTS).

History teaches us, that the ONLY chance that you can have peace from muslims in your country is when YOU are in the clear majority. Just look at Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, East Timor, Pakistan…these are LESSONS for you and everyone to learn. Once the muslims have their numbers, you can start counting down your days of peace. And I’m not speaking from lack of experience here.

No muslim will stand up for you in your defense when islam and its syariah is in full force because they themselves will get PERSECUTED. The only way to stay clear from cancer is to cut out the infected organ(s) (provided you are not in the late stages).

Don’t be fooled. To remain safe you MUST keep islam out of your shores. Once they lay a foothold and procreate in your country in large numbers then more of them will come in (from outside) and your country will be another pakistan/afganistan etc.

Dear Planten,

I believe there are many millions of Muslims that do their very best to follow their faith for Allah and as Allah as the centerpoint.

I also know there are millions of Christians, not just catholics, that follow their faith in The father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as deeply as millions of Muslims do in their own way.

The problems lie in the lukewarm believers of Christianity and the violent extremists in the Muslim faith. The Muslim Extremists will not destroy Chritianity, they will fortify Chritianity against a common enemy. Extremism

This is not what Christians wish for. We Christians live next door to people of many alternative faiths without condemming them. As people we want to love and respect people, just as most Muslims.

The lukewarm Christians don’t believe the truths of our beliefs. They are just there. They will hurt Christianity more than Muslim extremists just as Muslim extremists will hurt Muslims more than Christians will.

We must all pray for unity under the one God of Abraham we all believe in.

All Allah show us all the way.

God is Great

I agree with you 100% except any part which I may not have understood. So there is no blame on me. I do not support the extremists of any faith and I do not support any one who has no faith of any kind. I understand the good life of Jesus and his mother and I wish that all christians should try to follow the teachings of Jesus. They should try to be good christians.

Similarly, I would like that Muslims should try to be good peaceful Muslims, including myself. We have to stop the fanatics of all faiths, at least verbally. Nobody should take up any weapons against any one.

I do not believe that Muslims should take over control of any country when they are in the majority. That would be foolish thing to do. But I also suspect that is what they will do, because they ( Muslims) are misguided in all such matters, that is because of too much politics.

Muslims are not understanding the way (Sunnah) of the prophet Muhammad:

Once, when the struggle was hard and Muslims were persecuted too much in Makkah, The pagans made an offer of peace or reconciliation to Muhammad in the following words:
  1. We offer you as much wealth as you want. But stop your preaching of One God.
He replied that he does not need any wealth.
  2. They offered him a beautiful lady as wife if he had the desire.
He said he does not need any woman.
  3. They offered him the kingdom and they said we make you the king of Arabia.
He said that he did not want the kingdom. He did not want to be a King.
That last offer, No.3 above was a good political post. But he rejected it. So the muslims who are running after a political power should learn a lesson that politics is not the aim of Islam. However, there is no harm in serving the people in any capacity.

I definitely feel that politics has never been the mission of any prophet of God. Moses had a duty to peform, i.e. to get his people out of Egypt. It involved some ploitics (defensive politics). Moses never wanted to capture power in Egypt. But King Pharoah always blamed Moses and Aaron that they wanted greatness for themselves and wanted to be supreme persons in Egypt and they wanted to over power the local Egyptian people. That was not true at all.

Likewsie the mission of Jesus was non political. He was accused by his enemies that he wanted to be the king of the Jews. But he denied that accusation.

It is better for the muslims to leave any political struggle alone. That political path will never solve their problems. They must serve and suffer and serve more and please try to live like Jesus did amongst bad people and bad rulers. Because the present situation resembles exactly to the times of Jesus in Kana’an.

Muhammad also had two roles like Moses a.s. Muhammad had two roles, The meek and gentle and loving in Makkah like Jesus a.s. He had another role like Moses a.s. which was exhibited in Madinah. Muhammad never wanted to indulge into any politics. He was forced into it by the pagan enemies. Muhammad has been described as a prophet, the like of Moses. he has also been described in the Quran as a prophet like Jesus.

Please forgive any of my bad remarks and mistakes. Muslims should not disturb any one in the world even in face of sufferings.

Planten,

You appear sincere with the desire to do God’s will. I thank you for your comments and appreciate your humility.

May Allah / God have mercy on us all and give us the desire to seek the Truth.

My Catholic faith teaches me that all are responsible for what they truly know and believe. If I misunderstand something through no fault of my own but live life based on the one universal truth, LOVE, than I am doing my best. The Bible teaches me about the three virtues of faith, Hope, and Love. The greatest of all is Love. If all faiths teach this than we can live with each others different views on faith. Love will conquer all with the great help of Allah/God.

Respectfully

When Muslims become a majority…assuming they are Wahhabis, Sunnis, Shias, then the tolerance ends…

One religious casualty of the Iraq War was what you are seeing happening to the Christians in Iraq now…

Mosacked mentioned it is not about numbers…I read an old Catholic prophecy that some day the Arabs would overrun Europe and it would take the entire world to drive them back…

I believe in prayer and rosary, but when you look at the countries that fell…they couldn’t come back to their Christian roots.

Americans are watching what is happening to Great Britain…as well as the images of Britons who have lost their Christian faith and values.

In Nigeria, 20 Churches destroyed and 3 pastors killed.

I just saw this article. It happened in August 2009.

Planten, why don’t you get on one or more of the Muslim websites and start teaching them their Koran? Tell them they are misunderstanding it and should be working to change Sharia laws, and their Koran to be more like the Ahmadi instead of keep trying to tell us the interpretation that is not recognized in the majority of Muslim sects?

I am not asking this lightly. It just doesn’t ring true all the words that Islam is peaceful when you even admitted that ‘The Ahmadis have been persecuted, killed every day, month in Pakistan where there is the discriminatory law against the Ahmadis. Even one Ahmadi was killed last week in Lahore’.

The Muslims themselves have to change Islam and too many of them are wasting energy telling us that it is peaceful when it is very apparent it is not.

It is sad to see that only one imam spoke out here in USA…it is telling…very telling…

I went to my fraternity meeting today and it began with a special prayer on not being afraid…

And on the way home with others, how confirmation confirms our baptism…to be able to die for Christ…

As I said on another post, each day we live, we are getting closer to the day of our death. We must be ready and not be like the foolish virgins…

I pray that the Lord will give me the strength to offer Him my neck if it should come to that…

So get on with my life with Christ’s joy and life, do the best, and live the Gospel.

And some salient points:
Not very in this regard. It is easy for Muslims to say ‘I haven’t heard of that guy’. These Muslims do not have any power in Islam to change anything and their goal from what I read isn’t to change anything in Islam but to just give some more lip service, in a different way, to try to convince us that Islam is peaceful while doing nothing to stop the violence in Islam.

Once he said '“Believing men and believing women are protecting friends of one another; they enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong; they perform salat and give zakat…” (9:71)’ this tells me that nothing has changed. at least 1/8th of zakat is to go to their violent Jihadists who fight for Allah’s Cause. I have posted many times that from their Sharia laws (h.8)

And another thing is the twisting of words to make it sound like they are against the violence. ‘Wrongdoers’ are not those who fight for Allah’s Cause, the wrong doers are those who inhibit Islam or who do not work to establish it worldwide.

This is the most telling sentence: *"“Therefore, it is an obligation upon us (Imams) to inform all Muslims around the world that Muslims in Canada and the United States have complete freedom to practice Islam." *

This is EXACTLY what they want and in their Sharia laws and their texts violence is always an option. they can say otherwise, but until they change those laws all of the appearance of them saying they are against the violence is just more junk since Jihadists are admired and to be supported. This fatwa was a fabulous trick and the guy(s) who made it are all cackling and thinking they just got a brownie point for ‘waging Jihad with their tongues’.

‘complete freedom to practice Islam’ means to have Sharia laws fully enacted, and that all non-Muslims either be dead or subjugated. We need to learn their lingo and stop interjecting our own wishes and desires onto, or into, Islam.

Believing men and believing women are excluding unbelievers (non-Muslims) and hypocrites (Muslims who do not wage Jihad either by their tongue, their wealth or by violence).

Catholics in my part of America hold on tightly to their rosary prayer groups and their right to bear arms. Both are practiced all the time…with a true sense of humility and appreciation for the freedom to do so. Keep up the prayers and don’t lay down and throw the fight.

Amen! Trust in the Lord, but keep your powder dry. Catholics need to trust and pray, they do not need to be naive or stupid. Militant Islam is a threat to the entire world, worse than Nazism or Communism. The crusade against Nazism had the support of the entire free world, the destruction of Islam should occupy no lower priority.

If I was to try and teach / preach the good things to my people openly, I should be ready to carry my cross (as Jesus said it). It is difficult to teach a spoiled and misled nation already held fast in the clutches of misguided leaders. Those misguided leaders (pseudo-Imams) would not let go (release) the poor muslims from their clutches.

Those misguided leaders have got bad laws enacted in their countries so that nobody can speak the truth. So they have double influence against the truth speakers, i.e. the sword of the law, as well as, their secret army who are going about silencing the moderate Muslims.

The whole edifice will come down in time only. It will take time and it is hoped that all will be well in the end. The influence of the bad Imams is reducing because they have not given anything good to their people. They have got the Muslims divided into various sects and they are using the money from their followers for ulterior purposes. Mostly, they are telling lies to their followers.

The common Muslims do need some Fatwa to help them. So far, the Imams have only delivered adverse Fatwas against some non-Muslims. A time will come when common Muslims will not trust the Maulvis. The problems of the Muslims cannot be solved unless they get rid of the misguided Maulvis (religious teachers). As long as they are under the influence of their bad leaders, walking in the direction pointed to them, they cannot progress.

I am sure that the Muslims will never progress without an outside help from western countries. It happens like that when poor people are pressed hard by bad leaders, it becomes necessary to liberate them by foriegn help. It is not necessary that Moderate Muslims should try to bring down church teachings and it is not necessary that Christians should organise against poor Muslims. It is better to work together and Love will solve some problems. Faith, discipline, trust and interfaith love is needed.

There is much need from the western countires to exert pressure on the bad Muslims governments to cancell the bad inhuman laws in those so-called Muslim countries. There are laws against assumed blasphemy which carries the penalty of death. That is absolutely anti-islamic. The prophet Muhammad never needed any such bad laws to protect his honor. So why such laws are enacted in some of the so-called Muslim countries?. They enacted these laws to trap the christians and people of other faiths.

That is totally unislamic. But it is very much there and hindering the progress of the moderate Muslims.

And so another excuse as to not at least try to let the ‘common’ Muslim know what you know. Just keep letting them go astray with what you call bad Imams. I don’t know if you really understand why I don’t put too much into what you say. You put a lot of energy into trying to tell us how peaceful Islam is and won’t even try to convince the others even on websites that are anonymous.

Something just doesn’t ring true. Because what you are doing is trying to make people think that islam is good and peaceful when it is not. **You are also ignoring the atrocious words and deeds of the founder of Islam and I have absolutely no idea how anyone can sweep that under the carpet and act like it didn’t happen. **

And part of the reason why I don’t believe you is that Islam is about da’wa too. And if other Muslims are not understanding it then and they are doing violence that is not Islamic (as you say) then they should be the focus of every Muslim like you since they are the ones who are causing the most chaos and grief in the world even to your own sect of Muslims as you told us in a previous post - not the non-Muslims.

Yoohoooo…anybody there? I guess everybody took off when I mentioned praying for the Moslems? Jesus told us to pray for those we are at odds with. It’s alot more effective than talking about it…or at least we should pray first then talk. Oh well…
I don’t mind praying for the conversion of Muslims. Let’s hope that sometime in the future, Our Lady, as Advocate and Mediatrix of All Graces, can initiate a mass conversion of Muslims as she did to the Aztecs in Mexico back in the 1500s.

As a Christian from SE Asia, I can say that there are many peaceable Muslems who oppose terrorists and that the examples here seem to be extremists.

In my own personal experience, I seem to see that the Catholics who misunderstand Moslems worst are those from USA and Europe. However, not belonging to either of these continents, I have to say that this is a **gross oversimplification ** and is simply what I seem to see. I also understand that the Americans have seen the pain and tragedy of 9/11.

However, having grown up in a multiracial community (Singapore) with approx. 15% Muslim population, and having attended a Catholic school which many Muslims attended as well, I can safely say that most Muslims are nothing like the examples above. Apparently, their Qur’an says:

The Holy Qur’an > Surah Al-Baqarah> Verse 62
Those who believe (in the Qur-an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians, any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

I personally believe that every religion has a time in history where it has turned violent. For Catholics (and Protestants) it was the middle ages, rennaisance, reformation, etc. For Muslims, It was the crusades and now, i guess. Bear in mind that this is all my personal opinion only. However, I see a lot of hope for reconcilliation between these religions based on both my own personal experience with Muslims and the efforts of your own Pope John Paul II.

That was Good justified post. The three religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam are related religions. Abraham is on top in all these three religions. So there should not be any negative activity between them. It is better to get along together. Terrorists have no religion. The killers cannot be Muslims. Perhaps they are making the score even in some manner. But that is not due to any religous teaching. Islam does not allow killing of innocent people. Islam does not allow self destruction (Suicide). Suicide is Haraam in Islam.

So whoever is killing himself (blowing himself up) to kill others cannot be considered a Muslim. The most we can allow him/her is that he/she is a misguided person. The christians seem to feel endangered from Islam in some way. It cannot be due to those terrorists. There must be some other fear or failure for christianity that is haunting them. May be some people are questioning or leaving christianity in these days.

The more they preach the church teachings, the more the people will ask questions. Every one can read bible now because it is made available in all languages in the world. The Quran is also available. People will read and decide things on merit. There is no need to malign any one. Let us hope for some reconciliation with Love. The terrorists will be looked after by the government agencies and punished, we hope.

Meh. I am unmoved. Egypt is not Singapore, and Egypt is where in recent days there have been drive-by shootings of Christians outside of churches, and abductions and murders of people. Egypt is not Pakistan, where Christian men found in relationships with Muslim women have been raped and murdered for refusing to convert to Islam in order to make said relationships “pure” or acceptable according to Islam. Singapore is not Iraq, where the Assyrian Christians, members of the first nation to accept Christianity en masse, are having genocide committed against them as I write this. Singapore is certainly not Saudi Arabia, where there are many Christians among the immigrant workers, but they are denied any form of religious rights because it is actually illegal to be any other religion than Muslim in KSA, and while the country says they respect the right of the worshiper to practice their faith in private (as though Christianity is meant to be kept in basements, as though this restriction itself is not unreasonably oppressive), it does not respect this right in practice and private meetings in homes, completely devoid of the participation of Saudi nationals have been disrupted by the government. Saudi nationals who have considered Christianity have been martyred for the mere consideration. We’ve had threads about these new martyrs before.

I’m not trying to discount anything you say about Singapore. There are other Singaporean Christians here, and they confirm that relations between Christians and Muslims (as well as Muslims and the other religious communities) are harmonious. The problem is not Singapore, however, and Singapore’s reality does not accurately represent Islam worldwide any more than some marginal part of the Christian world, say, Brunei (~10% Christian, 64% Muslim) can be said to represent Christianity worldwide. Religion does not work like that. To determine whether it is peaceful or not, you need to look at the scriptures and related writings that have driven the history. It is possible that in some places and times it is peaceful, and in other places and times it is violent, because social, political, and cultural factors can affect the practice of religion. So individual behavior of the community is not sufficient. We know that in places where Muslims make up more than 15% and do not have a strong state with a pluralistic ethic to impose itself on them and regulate their behavior, Muslims often not in such harmony with other religious communities. To see why, look at the Qur’an and Hadith, where specific guidelines and examples are given as to how to interact with non-Muslims. These examples are often contradictory, because Islam is schizophrenic and dualistic, so if one embraces the peaceful verses or examples, they will be peaceful, BUT this does not at all negate the violent verses or examples and the people that follow them and cause the rest of the world such misery in the name of their religion. I would say that any honest appraisal of Islam is that it is inherently violent because its foundational texts are of two minds about violence, and there is no definitive moderating influence, as Muhammad, their “perfect man”/semi-deity actually became more violent as time went on and he obtained more power. Islam as a whole, having been made in his image and so following his lead as always, does too.

I think the source of the problems are coming out of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

We have had the Iranian Revolution, and then 9/11 and so we see here in America all the time how Muslims hate us and most Americans tend to be focused on their own life here, so many didn’t even understand why except that our cultural values have been basically Judeo Christian until the 1970’s…really…considering who is in power here now…

These Islamic fundamentalists declared war on us, and now our government is allowing so many Islamic fundamentalists into our country…it is all very strange…why do they come here if they hate us so much?

And I live in the only city in the country, an actual socialist government like what our president wants in power, that refused our federal government to set up an anti-terrorist task force…even the alternative type people in town thought that was nutts…and the mindset affects so many Catholics who are afraid and stay withdrawn…I do not trust anybody…anybody in this city to do anything for me, and I say that having lived here 20 years. i don’t go to church here but to another and made the right choice…

So we see all the anti-American hatred, and 9/11 and then so many Muslims coming here wearing clothes appropriate for the desert, they are established practically on every campus in the country and their presence is frightening and intimidating not only our students on campuses, but an increasing number of citizens to be quiet…if we speak out, they will sue us…

There were the 6 imams who deliberately set up a fracas on US Airways to use the setting for a lawsuit…even naming passengers who reported their erratic behavior to the airlines…they lost the suit, but got paid a settlement…the judge should be removed…but it sent a big message to American citizens that we have to let these Muslim foreigners do anything to us…

So that is one example why we have such an opinion…
