Is the Church Leaving Me?

Well at least a rational, thought out observation not based on feelings. And good advice to boot. Thank you. Believe me Satan is always hard at work, I know it.

I got the acronym wrong!
FSSP is what I meant. Sorry…
Yes, the SSPV are sedes I think. Avoid them!

@AJC From what I’ve read, the majority of your grievances seem capable of being remedied by switching parishes. Traditional Latin Mass seems like your best bet.

I have to drive an hour to reach a good parish, as I live in a very Protestant region. Maybe it’s the same for you? If so, I sympathize.

I was born in 2000 so I can’t exactly express my views on how the Church used to be; I do know that nostalgia is a very human emotion and it’s okay to feel the way you do… The Church isn’t leaving you though. Trust that it’ll all be okay.

Could you please explain to me what Gregorian Chant is? I am currently in RCIA and I have alot to learn. It sounds like something I would be interested in. Thank you

I have no problem with what you describe. Good hymns point one toward God and not self. Hallelujah for the Dulcimer. But, some music ministers think that the Mass is just another venue with no consideration for those of us in the pew. I admit I prefer Protestant standards to the wimpy Catholic Hymns from the 1970s on.

To which “Protestant standards” are you refering? There are are 1,000 Protestant denominations.

It’s a tonal type of acapella Christian religious singing. Heard mostly before Vatican II and not heard enough since then. It follows a certain note pattern. Sorry not a musicologist. What I know of it is from my study of history. Though long ago I knew a Jewish Mathematics Professor who loved it and proposed a mathematical theory based on the note pattern.

Thank you for your kindness. You might have only been born in 2000, but you express an understanding beyond your years. I can only say when one walked into a Catholic Church years ago, it was a glimpse of heaven. It’s how I saw it. Most responses think I long for a sound proof booth, far from it.

Protestant hymns. I’ll Fly Away, Rock of Ages, etc., etc.
🤨

Those are not about self? “I’ll Fly Away” is entirely about one person’s belief that they are “saved” and will immediately go to Heaven. “Rock of Ages” is a personal spiritual journey. It’s a nice one but hardly “selfless”

Also as discussed on other threads, the state of music in the church is what it is because we (as a whole) don’t pay a fair price for the type of talent we desire. A close family member of mine (professionally trained musician) makes twice as much at the Protestant Church. Who plays for the Catholics? Her friend who has only a cursory training in music.

A church can have beauty but also have a projector with the words to the creed or the lyrics of the hymns on it. The parish I attend is gorgeous…truly awe inspiring. And they do use a projector, for I believe a few reasons. 1. it is almost always standing room only and those standing don’t have a missal in front of them like the people in the pews. 2. visitors (and we have a lot of people in mixed marriages, like me) don’t have the responses or creed memorized and having them up on the wall helps them participate and feel like they aren’t standing out as they try to flip through a missal to figure things out. My own husband greatly appreciates the projector when he sometimes attends mass with me.

That said, there are no slide shows or anything flashy. And the projected image is not over the altar, but off to the side. There are actually two, one on each side. It’s a fairly large church. And they are turned off when not actively being used, so not a distraction during the consecration and such.

The SSPV are sedes.

The FSSP actually started as a group of SSPX priests who reconciled with the Holy See.

The entire SSPX could merge with the FSSP if they would just swallow their pride and embrace obedience. The door is wide open for them, all they need to do is walk in.

You may not realize it, brother, but you are giving off the rather unpleasant odor of Sanctimony. Find a mirror or read your responses to my post.

But not right next to the Crucifix over the altar. Just curious if you came out of Protestantism, at least mainline Protestant Churches certainly teach the ancient creeds of the Church.
