Is the left coming for Christian schools? And...what will Biden do if he takes the presidency?

If you want to have churches and religious schools shut down because of bankruptcy, this is how it’s done…

A small Christian school in Oregon is suing Democratic Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and other Oregon officials after claiming the state is discriminating against private and religious schools by keeping them locked down while allowing public schools to reopen.

The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) filed a lawsuit Friday on behalf of Hermiston Christian School, a K-12 school in Hermiston, Oregon, which has a student body of 51. The lawsuit reads in part: “After 41 years of faithful service, Hermiston Christian School (‘HCS’) could be forced to shut its doors for good unless the Court stops an obvious case of discrimination: Defendants’ COVID-19 orders and guidance generally prohibit in- person instruction but grant a ‘small school’ exception to public schools while denying the same exception to private religious schools (‘Religious School Closure’) in Umatilla County.”

…“The Religious School Closure is unconstitutional and makes no sense,” the suit continued. “The virus does not discriminate between public and religious schools; neither should the government. There is no basis for Defendants to grant a special exception for public schools while denying the same treatment to religious schools.”

It is hard for me to believe the truth in this proposition. Texas is one of the most conservative states and one of the least friendliest to Christian schools.
That’s because Texas is more libertarian than conservative.

Yes, the left IS coming for private schools (esp Christian) and they do want to eliminate homeschooling too.

However, the question is timing. The far left will only attempt to do this when they feel they have enough support to pull it off. I think homeschooling is target #1.

Assuming Joe Biden wins, he won’t do anything to protect private schools, but I also don’t think he will do anything to eliminate them. However, if Kamala Harris uses the 25th Amendment to remove him, I fear she might try to eliminate private schools, if the far left starts screaming for it.

However, in all honesty, I don’t think the Democrats are going to try to close private schools (and Christian schools) anytime soon. HOWEVER, a Harris Presidency very well might go after Christian schools who fire teachers for not living in accordance with traditional Christian morality.

And as I said above, I think they will go after homeschooling first.

LOL! I assure the party numbers do not reflect that. Agree to disagree on your point.

huh?

The vast majority of textbook libertarians (lower case l) are in the Republican and Democratic Parties, not the Libertarian Party. I think independent libertarians (like my Dad) might outnumber the Libertarian Party too.

And between Republican and Democratic Parties, most libertarians are Republican outside of places like West Coast and urban areas.

A libertarian is typically fiscally conservative (they don’t want to pay taxes) and socially liberal. Many libertarians don’t like seat belt laws, anti-smoking laws, zoning laws, blue laws, etc.

Libertarians want the govt completely out of the checkbooks and personal lives of people.

True conservatives, on the other hand, prefer that the govt play a role in maintaining social norms & social conservatism.

Non-religious Texans have always had more of a libertarian lean to them, while the religious Texans have had a more conservative lean.

I think we already know the secular left wants to force Christian schools (and Catholic ones too, but later) to comply with their policies which, of course, will ultimately close them down. The obama administration already gave it a try in the “Hosana Tabor” case. At issue was whether the government or the Lutheran Church has the right to determine what employment policies the Lutheran Church can impose relative to employee qualifications based on religious belief. Fortunately, the Supreme Court ruled against the government. But the existence of the suit tells us what the secularists think about all of that. The government’s position was, of course, that the government, not the Lutheran Church, could determine what religious tests the Lutheran church could have for employment.

This is very telling as it’s the private and charter schools that have reopened full time,no ,masks for kids under a certain age.Meanwhile, most of the public schools are at the very best two days in person and masks for all.The Teachers Unions are pushing for combat pay.

I think there is no doubt that the left has been targeting Christian education for some time now. We have seen this in places where private Christians schools have been sued for upholding codes of conduct for students and faculty. We have seen how the NEA and other teachers unions as well as mainline Democratic politicians to include Joe Biden have argued that students of private Christian institutions and day care centers should be excluded from receiving financial aid that is open for general use for non-Christian educational institutions. We have heard the NEA and Democratic politicians at all levels say that parents should not be able to receive tax credits for use at private Christian schools. We have seen the NEA say that private schools should not be allowed to open due to COVID restrictions even where these schools are in compliance with CDC guidelines and recommendations. It would be willful ignorance to say that all of these things are not being openly discussed by mainline advocacy groups and politicians.

Because it’s very awkward to teach sexual morality to kids who’s parents are openly living lives that contradict it.

I think you know this.

Many people are frightened by the unending lawsuits and the hostility and name calling by left.

That is how the left will attempt to shutdown religious institutions. By labeling the teachings of Jesus as ‘hate speech’.

They added that the Obergefell ruling “enables courts and governments” to label believers in traditional marriage “as bigots, making their religious liberty concerns that much easier to dismiss.”
A Pro Life Trump presidency along with his protection of religious liberty policies was the worst thing that could have happened for the left. That is what the Russian hoax and anti Catholic Supreme Court hearings were all about. Never mind the Supreme Court, they also know Trump had nominated and confirmed 200 + federal judges and there was nothing they could do about it. If the Harris/Biden regime does take over at least it will make it harder for them to achieve their religious persecution.

I can’t really speak for the goverment. My opinion though is that the govt. is trying to be good stewards of the taxpayer money and it is cheaper to run 1 system than more than 1 and tax money shouldn’t go to schools that discriminate based on protected classes.

School systems are so large that there is no material cost difference.
tax money shouldn’t go to schools that discriminate based on protected classes.
Seems to me that putting tax money to educate children is just that. Which children seems irrelevant.

There is a huge cost difference. Running two buildings instead of 1 means far more cost in the janitorial, electrical, water, and building maint. to name just a few.

You seem to be advocating for “separate but equal”, that has already been found to be unconstitutional.

Not the issue. The unit cost of a school system with 50,000 schools or 2 systems with 25000 schools is insignificantly different.

I’m not American.
