Is the Republican party truly pro-life?

The Republican party isn’t pro life in the sense that they promote contraception or at least are not against contraception.
The question should be who is more pro life republicans or democrats? The answer to this question is clear. Biden wants to codify Roe vs Wade, supports partial birth abortion, wants us taxpayers to find the baby murder. Every pro abortion group supports the Biden Harris ticket.

Unskilled workers are in a worst situation.
Yes I am sure that is true, but at what point do you say it is incumbent upon the individual worker to become skilled? Why should anyone get paid simply because they exist?

Indeed.

But it is important to make things clear. None of these parties are aligned with Catholic teaching, so we should be careful when defending one or the other…

One way to get skilled is through education.

Post secondary education has been steadily increasing in price and I don’t mean just University education. Even the vocational schools are increasing in price. Some high schools do some vocational training but not all. Are there still apprenticeships out there?

Jobs have gone overseas, education costs an arm and a leg, jobs are no longer stable and employment no longer secure. Healthcare is tied to employment, so healthcare or access to healthcare is precarious. Wages have remained stagnant while the cost of living has gone up. People are struggling even in the best of times. Now we have the pandemic, adding insult to injury.

Why should we deny help to people who have been thrown a rock and told to swim upstream?

There are! Certainly so for the building trades. I was a union electrician, and my apprenticeship cost me nothing (other than time and effort). The financial costs were covered by the union members. I had no student loan debt, made a good living, and continuing education is covered by the membership as well. It’s a great deal.

I’m retired now, but my son is a union electrician too, and he serves on the board that interviews potential new apprentices. Construction work isn’t for everyone, but it can still be a great opportunity for some.

Of course, Republicans tend to promote right-to-work (for less) laws, so unions are generally weaker when they’re in power.

You can post all the allegations you want, but you have no actual evidence of rampant abuse.
I’m sorry you’re choosing not to believe the evidence I’ve presented. It’s very difficult to engage you in conversation if you’re continually going to dismiss what I say.

The facts do not support your dire description. Pre COVID unemployment was at an all time low. Today it was reported that jobless claims are the lowest since COVID started. Under President Trump personal incomes rose higher than ever.

Loans and scholarships for education are available. The problem I saw in the university is that there are too many people majoring in studies that won’t get them good jobs. A B.S. in psychology or ethnic studies is useless. Majors in the STEM degrees usually get employed immediately.

If college isn’t for you the trades are very short on help. Electricians, plumbers, and HVAC guys are hard to find. These are stable and secure jobs.

That is because you did not present any evidence. Allegations and whining don’t prove anything. If the illegal aliens don’t like the cages that Obama created I guess they should stop coming here.

But that is all beside the point as I still want to hear your solution as to where we should put the thousands of illegal aliens that have poured over our borders.

Yeah, I’m a landlord and house flipper, but I have a very hard time getting good contractors because they are all so busy. There are many good opportunities in the building trades now and they get paid quite well.

This is why I usually vote Democrat too. There’s more than one issue affecting the country, so deciding who to vote for based purely off one issue strikes me as tunnel-vision.

It’s also worth mentioning that even when it comes to abortion the Republican Party isn’t fully pro-life; there have been Governors and Senators who were part of that party yet called themselves pro-abortion.

Not necessarily.

I lost my job due to COVID, have a STEM degree and years of engineering experience working in various industries from aerospace to biomedical equipment to transportation.

Still can’t find a job even after 5 months.

Hopefully my job prospects get better.

I feel bad for you, but I am totally puzzeled. I am just speculating here, but maybe you are doing something or say something on the job interview that is sabotaging your chances. Every one of my friends in STEM are gainfully and securely employed. Maybe you need to move to another state, but something is wrong here.

I too hope and pray you find work soon.

Okay, but abortion is a biggy! In this past election President Trump had a great economy going so he was doing well on most things a President can control.

That is a specious arguement. Every pro abortion group I see strongly supports democrats not republicans.

Employers have given me the courtesy of calling and giving me feedback on the interview.

They didn’t mention about me saying anything wrong. I didn’t get the job because either the position I was interviewing for was eliminated or there was someone with more experience in a certain aspect of the job than I.

I try to take this feedback so I can improve the next time around. I try my best and in the end that’s all I can do.

Sometimes you just have a series of bad luck then all of a sudden the very next week you have ten job offers. That is exactly what happened to me when I got out of accounting and was interviewing. Since then, I decided that “working for the man” really was not for me. Now I day trade stocks and invest heavily in real estate. I enjoy it.

It is a biggie, but is it big enough to outweigh all other issues?

It’s not specious, because if neither party truly wants to ban abortion then the choice of which one to choose must be made based on other matters. There have been several Republican presidents who have got to serve two terms in a row, and yet we’re no closer to overturning Roe v Wade.

No president can overturn Roe. But presidents can nominate Justices to the Supreme Court. As Trump has done. A president can also support pro-life by executive orders and regulations, as Republican presidents have done, while Democratic presdents have suported abortion by the same means.

The same sort of thing can be said for Democrats–welfare is structured to be difficult to get out of, and so they seem to keep that as their issue on which to get elected.

If abortion were off the table, I might still vote Republican (even tho they drive me up a wall sometimes!) because they seem more interested in giving the poor a helping hand out of poverty.

Republicans also seem more interested in keeping jobs here and in keeping them for citizens and permanent residents, and just generally keeping an eye on how actual people are managing.

Neither party is perfect, but I think, if abortion were off the table, that the back-and-forth between the Democrats who want to care for poor people in perpetuity and the Republicans who want to reduce welfare spending as much as possible would keep us in a good middle regarding the poor.

Of course, I also think both parties and the nation as a whole would be better off if we considered the reasons for problems and then worked on solving them instead of just throwing billions at everything.

Sigh… I guess that would be too much to ask for though…

I don’t think that Democrats will ever agree to limit or ban abortion, because abortion is the ultimate guarantor of the sexual revolution. Contraception enables sexual licentiousness and abortion guarantees there will be no consequences. Those wishing to keep the sexual revolution in place must have contraception and abortion.
