It’s too bad because there are great hadiths out there to discuss. I guess people aren’t interested in the islamic hadiths.

I enjoyed reading all your hadiths! I still don’t understand why anyone had to record the bathing and bathroom habits of a “prophet” or anyone else. I was hoping one of our Muslim posters would expound on that. (My personal opinion is that such details and the copying of such habits exhibits OCD.)

Where can one find a list of all the hadiths such as you have given us?

I’ve had many muslim on forums, other than this one, tell me that you know about your Jesus, how he ate, how he baithed, how he combed his hair, how he dressed, how he peed and his bathroom hadits, what clothing he wore… … etc… etc… etc…

Your Christ left nothing, no writings behind… but we know everything about our prophet mohamad.

Narrated Abu Huraira:

I heard Allah’s Apostle saying, "The rights of a Muslim on the Muslims are to follow the funeral processions, to accept invitation and to reply the sneezer. (see Hadith No 331) **

What these 3 things have to do with each other is beyond my comprehension at this moment. Sneezing and funerals??? (Unless there is another definition for “sneezer”?)

Would this develop into a George-esque/Seinfeld episode on “reply the sneezer”?

Narrated Al-Bara’ bin 'Azib:

**Allah’s Apostle ordered us to do seven things and forbade us to do other seven. He ordered us: **

to follow the funeral procession.

to visit the sick,

to accept invitations,

to help the oppressed,

to fulfill the oaths,

**to return the greeting and to reply to the sneezer: (saying, “May Allah be merciful on you,” provided the sneezer says, “All the praises are for Allah,”). **

He forbade us to use silver utensils and dishes and

to wear golden rings, silk (clothes), Dibaj (pure silk cloth), Qissi and Istabraq (two kinds of silk cloths).

I find the hadiths fascinating, more from a sociological perspective than any sort of hagiography. It certainly says a lot about the compilers and their informants that there is so much in the hadiths about Muhammad’s personal hygiene. I’m not entirely sure if that’s a good thing or not, but I’m glad that they are around for all to read. And, yes, some of them are just downright funny and strange, too!

Don’t worry, Muslims…there are also many funny things in the writings of early Christians, and in the Bible itself. For instance, in 1 Kings 18:27, Elijah mocks the idol worshipers: "It came about at noon, that Elijah mocked them and said, “Call out with a loud voice, for he is a god; either he is occupied or gone aside, or is on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep and needs to be awakened.”

Don’t worry, Muslims…there are also many funny things in the writings of early Christians, and in the Bible itself. I recently heard the story of an early saint who was being interrogated by Roman officials. He told them their sense of religion was so weak even a child could refute them. So the Roman officials took a child off the street and asked who was the true god. The child replied, “Christ!”

Actually, I think the hadith sources are very helpful in showing the historical background of many Quranic passages, as well as Muslim thinking in that time period. I sometimes just spend half an hour or so reading them, even not looking for a particular subject. The ones that talk about ordinary day-to-day affairs that aren’t even that important are the most fascinating to me.

We now move to book#7 - I stated earlier that I skipped books 5 & 6 ~ they were too nasty for postings.

Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Book 7: Rubbing hands and feet with dust (Tayammum)

**Volume 1, Book 7, Number 331: Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:

The Prophet said, "I have been given five things which were not given to any one else before me.

1. Allah made me victorious by awe, (by His frightening my enemies) for a distance of one month’s journey.
2. The earth has been made for me (and for my followers) a place for praying and a thing to perform Tayammum, therefore anyone of my followers can pray wherever the time of a prayer is due.
3. The booty has been made Halal (lawful) for me yet it was not lawful for anyone else before me.
4. I have been given the right of intercession (on the Day of Resurrection).
5. Every Prophet used to be sent to his nation only but I have been sent to all mankind. **

Volume 1, Book 7, Number 333: Narrated Abu Juhaim Al-Ansari:

**The Prophet came from the direction of Bir Jamal.

A man met him and greeted him.

But he did not return back the greeting till he went to a (mud) wall and smeared his hands and his face with its dust (performed Tayammum) and then returned back the greeting. **

No water to wash up, just use mud & dirt!

End of book 7 - all of the hadiths are about when there is no water to wash before prayer, just use dirt, sand, mud… etc… to wash up and then pray!

Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Book 8: Prayers (Salat)

Volume 1, Book 8, Number 345: Narrated Abu Dhar:

**Allah’s Apostle said, "While I was at Mecca the roof of my house was opened and Gabriel descended, opened my chest, and washed it with Zam-zam water.

Then he brought a golden tray full of wisdom and faith and having poured its contents into my chest, he closed it.

Then he took my hand and ascended with me to the nearest heaven, when I reached the nearest heaven, Gabriel said to the gatekeeper of the heaven, ‘Open (the gate).’

The gatekeeper asked, ‘Who is it?’ Gabriel answered: ‘Gabriel.’

He asked, ‘Is there anyone with you?’ Gabriel replied, ‘Yes, Muhammad I is with me.’

He asked, ‘Has he been called?’ Gabriel said, ‘Yes.’

So the gate was opened and we went over the nearest heaven and there we saw a man sitting with some people on his right and some on his left.

When he looked towards his right, he laughed and when he looked toward his left he wept.

Then he said, ‘Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious son.’

I asked Gabriel, ‘Who is he?’

He replied, 'He is Adam and the people on his right and left are the souls of his offspring.

Those on his right are the people of Paradise and those on his left are the people of Hell and when he looks towards his right he laughs and when he looks towards his left he weeps.’ **

Hadith #345 is long and I will post it in sections because it’s interesting.

First Gabriel comes down through the roof of mohamads house, cuts open mohamads check and fills it with “faith & wisdom”. Then closes up the chest and takes him to heaven.

Gabriel now has to go through the heaven gate keeper.???

Mohamad meets Adam. Adam looks to his right & smiles because those people are in paradise and Adam looks to his left and cries because those people are in hell.

**Then he ascended with me till he reached the second heaven and he (Gabriel) said to its gatekeeper, ‘Open (the gate).’

The gatekeeper said to him the same as the gatekeeper of the first heaven had said and he opened the gate.

Anas said: "Abu Dhar added that the Prophet met Adam, Idris, Moses, Jesus and Abraham, he (Abu Dhar) did not mention on which heaven they were but he mentioned that he (the Prophet ) met Adarn on the nearest heaven and Abraham on the sixth heaven.

Anas said, "When Gabriel along with the Prophet passed by Idris, the latter said, ‘Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious brother.’

The Prophet asked, ‘Who is he?’ Gabriel replied, 'He is Idris."

The Prophet added, "I passed by Moses and he said, ‘Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious brother.’

I asked Gabriel, ‘Who is he?’ Gabriel replied, ‘He is Moses.’ Then I passed by Jesus and he said, ‘Welcome! O pious brother and pious Prophet.’

I asked, ‘Who is he?’ Gabriel replied, 'He is Jesus. **

Ibn Hazm and Anas bin Malik said:

The Prophet said, "Then Allah enjoined fifty prayers on my followers when I returned with this order of Allah,

I passed by Moses who asked me, ‘What has Allah enjoined on your followers?’

I replied, ‘He has enjoined fifty prayers on them.’

Moses said, ‘Go back to your Lord (and appeal for reduction) for your followers will not be able to bear it.’

(So I went back to Allah and requested for reduction) and He reduced it to half.

When I passed by Moses again and informed him about it, he said, ‘Go back to your Lord as your followers will not be able to bear it.’

So I returned to Allah and requested for further reduction and half of it was reduced.

I again passed by Moses and he said to me: 'Return to your Lord, for your followers will not be able to bear it.

So I returned to Allah and He said, ‘These are five prayers and they are all (equal to) fifty (in reward) for My Word does not change.’

I returned to Moses and he told me to go back once again.

I replied, ‘Now I feel shy of asking my Lord again.’

Then Gabriel took me till we ‘’ reached Sidrat-il-Muntaha (Lote tree of; the utmost boundry) which was shrouded in colors, indescribable.

Then I was admitted into Paradise where I found small (tents or) walls (made) of pearls and its earth was of musk." **

I closing, we went from 50 prayers a day to 25, to 12 & 1/2 to 5.

Mohamad had one heck of an imagination!

In case anyone hasn’t noticed, this hadith is clearly stating that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) spoke directly with his Lord and Creator on this night journey of Isra’ and Mi’raj.

Ahhhh yes… the night mohamad did the night journey on an animal that had a woman’s head, the body of a donkey or jack*** and feathers of a peacock.

God always brings his prophets to heaven in this manner to seek Him!
