When buying Chick tracts, you have to be very selective in which ones you buy. But there are some that are good.

Well to each his own I guess. :o Although I just can’t help but take the Comic Critic approach when it comes to his tracts. Then I again, maybe I am a little biased.

Do you actually buy them? If you give them to someone do you not worry that they might dig a bit deeper and read some of his other work? Surely use of any of his work gives credability to his other anti-so-many-things comics? You’ll never make a Catholic out of someone with Chick…

And so it goes on. You might only buy the ones you think all right, but by doing so you are funding all the others, as well. You do know that–yes? :ouch:

Which is why we ought to be putting our money into good evangelization materials–they’re so needed. Funding Chick isn’t worth all the extra baggage that comes with his other nasty material.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :doh2: :rotfl: That was great!
IGOR!!! Like it’s an ominous and shocking name. Igor is a common name that means farmer. And why, oh, why are all those kids allowed out trick-or-treating in a town with a spooky castle where presumably people have disappeared? In a thunderstorm?
And the proportionate sizes of the characters are so unfixed.
And why the little tattered flip chart? Can’t they hit OfficeMax when they’re training their chosen whatever he is? Are they just too lazy? And it really takes their favorite and presumably highly-groomed child until he’s around 16 or so to learn where the carotid artery is, which would appear to be the most important fact in his future?
They didn’t think of asking him not to freak out at the mention of food and splutter about how he only drinks blood?

Please see Post 91 in this thread.
Not quite the same as trying to convince someone they should become a Christian. If you give somone a comic and say ‘you shoud listen to what this guy says’ then they arn’t going to be a Catholic if they listen to you.

I can’t help but think the ‘hearers’ of Chick, fall into two categories…
  1. Catholics who are not devout, and are itching for any validation to leave the Church
  2. Non Catholics who have grown up in a family that spewed a lot of nasty comments about Catholicism.
I don’t believe that someone who is solid in the faith, or someone who grew up being told to love all people, regardless of religious affiliations, would be swayed by Chick. He is too outrageous to appeal to someone who already doesn’t have a head start so to speak, in hating the Catholic Church already.

He probably preys mainly on those two categories. No?

I’m still green when it comes to Jack Chick. I’m a bit embarassed that I had no clue who he was until very recently.😊

Well, I don’t see too many Catholics converting vampires to Christianity - do you?😛

LOL
Let’s not forget Anne Rice.

Peripherally, I sure hop that Jack Chick is not a Jesuit plant to make the protestants look bad. If he is we might have to make him a saint.

Somehow, “today is the feast day of St. Jack Chick” just doesn’t sit right with me.

As it turns out, I did know Jack Chick 30 years ago. That was before I became a Catholic. Who knows, May be responsible for my…OH NO!!

Surely the main point to be gained from all of this is that we catholics need to know our faith well. We need to be informed and able to intelligently debate with those who have mixed up ideas as to what the Catholic faith really says.

Secondly we need to be prepared to reach out to others and tell them about God. We seem to too often not care about whether other people are headed for Heaven or Hell. At least Chick does seem to care about that.

Thirdly we need to recognise that debate with someone who is at a Jack Chick level of reasoning may simply be impossible. They may be so consumed with hatred for the Catholic Church that any type of reasonable debate would be out of the question. In these cases we need to pray for them and leave debate to a possible future date when they have settled down and are willing to at least listen to what we have to say.

That’s funny.

Yes, and I’m mailing them to abortion mills.😃

Wow, excellent point. I can’t believe I haven’t thought up that argument. 👍

On the other hand though, how many here have ever seen a Chick tract parody?

Guys, guys, guys 🙂

I think Post 91 in this thread is an example of unintended consequences!

Quite. Very unintended. That only shows that God is bigger than our intentions–that he creates good out of evil. It certainly isn’t an endorsement of Mr. Chick’s paranoiac nonsense.

We better not jinx it though, perhaps we should just call for a cure for Jack’s insanity and get him to actually see what’s wrong with himself so he can fix it. :hmmm:
