Thanks for the kind words. I guess we have a few things in common.

I know a lot of people love turnips. I always found them bitter. I couldn’t understand how my folks said they tasted “sweet” – they were always bitter.

Growing up, I was not the typical kid who hated all vegetables. I loved most foods I was served, so I felt it was unfair to force me to eat just one that I didn’t like when there were so many others from which I got plenty of good nutrition.

I don’t think we ever had Rutabagas, so I don’t know what those taste like.

I do like beets, however. And, I like beet greens. I also like carrots. Not crazy about radishes. Unlike many kids, I liked spinach and mustard greens. And, eagerly ate them.

And, believe it or not, I like to eat raw potatoes. I liked the crunchiness as well as the flavor.

I guess I was a strange kid!

Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Yes to the raw potatoes, spinach, carrots and also radishes. Still don’t like beets and they are so good for you. Rutabags taste sweet to me especially when pressure cooked. Were your siblings able to make it for the birthday visit?

Just so I don’t get in trouble for hijacking the thread here is a veggie pun!

They’ll be coming tomorrow. I have a special T-shirt I plan to wear on my 70th birthday. It reads: “When is this old enough to know better supposed to kick in?”

We’re going to have fun, despite our air being so smoky out here.

Enjoy! Luv the tee!! So true. I still can get myself into trouble. Wish I could send you the down pours we have already started to get. Mine will be a soggy birthday celebration.

@JanR This is for the both of us! Not sure if it fits here, on Post a cartoon or Coffee is the answer.(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
May have to cover all three threads just to be sure that I got it right.

LOL! I missed that one. But I do enjoy a very brisk cup of tea also. Irish Breakfast, Earl Grey or a whole tea leaf gifted to my husband from a Taiwanese pilot that he taught. Need to make whole pot of that to enjoy it properly.

I love green tea.

When I volunteered as a Laubach Literacy tutor for English speakers of other languages, I had a Chinese student whose family owned a Chinese restaurant.

He gifted me with a canister of green Chinese tea. He also invited me and hubby to their restaurant for a meal on them. He was very grateful for my teaching.

In Oriental cultures, teachers are highly respected. So much so, that it’s considered taboo to call the teacher by his or her name. Instead, we are to be called “teacher”, because that is considered a higher honor.

By contrast, if American students addressed their teachers as “teacher” instead of by their names, that would be considered disrespectful. And we don’t respect teachers in this country like we ought to.

Green tea is the best, though I also like Oolong tea.

How long does it take tea to be shipped on a slow boat from China?
Oolong time!
That’s an interesting cultural tidbit. My DIL worked in college at the English as Second Language program. Her native language is Spanish. Sorry about the tea pun. Had to quick find one but that’s a groaner for sure.

When God was creating the nations, He said: “Up in the North, I’m putting a people called the Canadians; they will have a huge land mass, surrounded by rich fishing waters, thousands of miles of forest, vast farmlands and extensive natural resources. The winters will be severe, but they will use that to excel in winter sports.”

The Archangels asked Him: “But shouldn’t there be adversity in the life of nations, as well?”

“You should see who they are getting as neighbors!”

Unresolved question:

You have your extra small, you have your extra large, why is there no extra medium??🤔

Adam and Eve in the garden .

Eve creeps up behind Adam and puts her hands over his eyes and says “Guess who”.

Adam replies “Dont be so stupid.”

The past, the present and, the future walked into a bar.
It was tense…
