Fine give me reparations then. My ancestors came 40 years after slavery ended and the first two generations worked in Northeast Pennsylvania coal mines. The males worked 6 days a week 12 hours a day for dirt pay and no benefits in horrible working conditions. Most of them ended up dying from black lung and were lucky to see their 60th birthday, that’s if they saw their 50th, and many died much younger from injuries suffered on the job. My ancestors had nothing to do with anyone’s oppression and were opressed themselves. I owe nobody anything.

To be fair, reparations can mean something very broad, it doesn’t necessarily mean direct restitution based for one specific group of people but perhaps rather instead creating and developing policy initiatives and program ideas to help resolve societal issues and systemic problems which have a basis in history like slavery, segregation and other issues that disproportionately impacted factions of society. For example, developing programs to help uplift disadvantaged and struggling communities who have been dealt with a difficult hand of cards. For example, take this quote from the previous President Obama.
“I have said in the past – and I’ll repeat again – that the best reparations we can provide are good schools in the inner city and jobs for people who are unemployed,”

My ancestors were Irish potato farmers who were very definitely oppressed by the English back in the day. They killed 1 million of us during the Famine years and forced 3 million more to leave the country over the remainder of the 19th century. Ireland’s population has still not returned to pre-Famine levels even today. Tony Blair made a formal apology on behalf of the British, but reparations were never on the table. We all moved on.

Now if we want to talk about white privilege and about other options for helping black people, we’ve been having those conversations ever since the passage of the Civil Rights Act. It would be good to ask what has worked … and more frankly, what has not worked.

There’s plenty of broad programs already. So if that’s what you mean by reparations there have been reparations for a long time and continue today. We can even go back to the civil war with all the death and destruction that ended slavery. In a broad sense that is also reparations.

Not necessarily (but kinda); rhetorically, couldn’t policies be amended and programs enacted to help communities and folks who are disadvantaged and struggling? Like hypothetically, the Congress with the collaboration of the President and the Executive Branch could implement a set of policies and programs to address and amend systemic issues that contributed to communities to become disadvantaged and struggling. Forgive me for sounding quite vague about it.

so don’t think I am applying what I am about to say to you.

But white supremacists could come up with the same type of arguing some day.

They COULD argue
we need to use the gun-point power of Government to take wealth from blacks
(or whatever other group)
and give it to whites.

(That is part of what slavery was.)

I know you don’t think that would be OK RCIAGraduate.

But what floors me, is the statists support this idea IN PRINCIPLE (just rearranging skin colors).

And it is WRONG and racist.

There have been many other clues to their racism and self-loathing as well (putting up killing or abortion clinics in minority neighborhoods, double-standards on posting photos in their newspapers based upon race, projection of their own racism on others, especially people like President Trump, etc. etc.).

Whether it is Woodrow Wilson and Margaret Sanger to Fulbright and Wallace and their racism, FDR and his anti-Japanese bigotry, or anti -white male bigotry during the Kavanaugh hearings, or the regrowth of any-Semitism already being expressed in the new Congress, bigotry is the legacy of the Democrat Party.
There is clearly bigotry among others and not all Democrats were or are, but it is the continuing legacy of the Democrat Party.
