Kavanaugh endorsement rescinded

We’ll see what the Senators think later this week on this.

But I was listening to excerpts from our President’s speech in Johnson City last night, I just don’t see where the President’s opponents have really prove their case against Kav on the charges.

If Kavanaugh isn’t confirmed, I don’t think the next nominee will be treated any better by the Democrats, and I would sincerely doubt that they would even consider him or her before the midterm election.

I think the question has become: Did he commit perjury about anything, not just Ford. Anything. Any perjury will probably disqualify him. The FBI should be able to determine that, however, I think they should have been given more time. Do people want a hurried investigation or a proper and complete one?

Trump does his nominee no favors ny making fun of Ford as he did yesterday. I don’t think Trump will pull his nomination, though, because Trump can’t admit he made a mistake.

I don’t know what Democrats did to Kavanaugh. They didn’t make him assault, drink to excess, or lie, etc… That was all his doing. Sure, they don’t like him, but then Republicans would hate any Democratic nominee. The country is very divided now, and Democrats and Republicans are loathe to work together. Look how badly Merrick Garland was treated by Republicans. They were in no hurry to vote when he was nominated.

Garland was rejected, but he wasn’t asked about his high school yearbook and wasn’t accused of sexual assault. He really wasn’t demonized.

And had Mrs. Clinton won the election in November 2016, he would have likely been confirmed with a fair number of GOP votes.

He wasn’t rejected. He was denied a hearing!

Oh, I don’t think Clinton could have gotten anyone confirmed. The Senate is Republican, by a very slim margin, and they probably wouldn’t have voted for anyone Clinton would have nominated. Maybe, maybe not. We’ll never know.

So lying should disqualify a witness or a candidate?
If he lies under oath, it does disqualify him, but we are a long way from that still. Lying does not mean the same as misleading, or even being mistaken. It means saying something you know to be false. That would be difficult to show considering the time lapse, but not impossible.

At this point, there is not any strong evidence of such perjury. (at least not that I have seen)

Garland’s nomination was deferred by McConnell.

Obama’s previous nominations received plenty of Republican votes, and none of them had their high school years looked at under a microscope. Both Sotomayor and Kagan got GOP votes including Lindsay Graham, BTW, who has been demonized this past week by the Democrats.

An atheist trashing Kavanaugh and advocating for abortion here is not very persuasive or credible, sorry.
Either is a Catholic supporting a serial liar and tax evader (Trump) and a man willing to commit assault (Kavanaugh).

Those are not Catholic values.

The direct quotes talk about drunkenness. He admitted to drinking too much. It’s not a lie just because he didn’t use identical words as others.
He seemed rather defensive about his high school/college drinking when he was testifying before the Senate and when Sen. Amy Klobuchar asked him directly about whether he ever blacked out, he evaded answering.
Klobuchar: “So you’re saying there’s never been a case where you drank so much that you didn’t remember what happened the night before or part of what happened?”

Kavanaugh: “You’re talking about blackout. I don’t know. Have you?”
Also, former FBI Director James Comey seems to think that Kavanaugh told some small lies in his Senate testimony. In the New York Times Comey wrote that FBI agents "know that little lies point to bigger lies. They know that obvious lies by the nominee about the meaning of words in a yearbook are a flashing signal to dig deeper.”

According to the Washington Post:
Comey was alluding to a page in Kavanaugh’s senior yearbook that came into question during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last Thursday for its apparent references to sexual acts (including “Judge — have you boofed yet?” and “Devil’s Triangle”) and drinking to excess (“Beach Week Ralph Club — Biggest Contributor”).

Kavanaugh insisted to the committee that “boofed” referred to flatulence, that “Devil’s Triangle” was a drinking game, and that he might have been the biggest contributor to the “Ralph Club” because he had a weak stomach.
I don’t find Kavanaugh’s explanation very convincing that all he was saying was, “Judge - have you farted yet?”

And then there’s his claim that the reference in his yearbook to his being a “Renate Alumnius” was just meant to convey “affection”. That term, “Renate Alumnius” apparently appears multiple times in many other boys yearbooks as well and when Renate Schroeder Dolphin was told about this, she didn’t consider it to be a sign of “affection.” I think that the little poem that another Gerogetown Prep student, Michael Walsh, wrote more accurately captures what these boys thought about Renate Schroeder: “You need a date / and it’s getting late / so don’t hesitate / to call Renate.”

Catholic values include not bearing false witness, not rushing into judgment and not claiming to know things we don’t.

I’d like to see Kav only get 5 or 8 Democrat votes.
I’d like to see him get none, but I do think he’ll be confirmed. A dark cloud will always hang over him, though. Most of the country no longer supports his nomination.

I don’t think anyone but Republicans did. The Democrats want a longer investigation so they can learn the actual truth.

If he lied about that, the reason is pretty simple, he was being asked to define embarrassing things in front of everyone. I still pray for his confirmation. He is a decent man who has done good work and there is no evidence he has done anything harmful. Let the perfect keep judging.

He seemed defensive and very angry to me, almost combative. People don’t act that way when telling the truth.

I’m a woman and only thirty-three, but I’m no feminist or even sympathetic to the MeToo movement. I guess that’s because every time I told a man to get his hands off me, he did. Nevertheless, I believe Dr. Ford. primarily because she mentioned the incident to a therapist years before Trump was a presidential candidate, and various people have stated Kavanaugh had a drinking problem. Even Kavanaugh called himself “an obnoxious drunk.”

I don’t think that. The Democrats want a longer investigation so they can stretch the process past the midterm elections.

And if Dems were to win, that would be the end for Kavanaugh or any other Trump appointee for the next 2 years anyhow. And if the Republicans win, it is still the end of Kav’s nomination as the President will be free to pick someone else who is a hardcore conservative instead.

Yeah, that is true! 😄 The Republicans want to confirm him before in case the Democrats take the Senate. Politics as usual.

Sometimes they do. A friend of mine was in the joint and one of the other guys accused him of being a chomo (child molester). He ain’t guilty, but got into a very serious fight over the accusation. If people’s reputation is under attack, they will often get combative.

Not a good thing to do as it signals guilt whether one is guilty or not.
