Horton:
They teach Jesus Christ was just a holy human (not divine) man who became exalted.
This is not what mormons believe. We believe that he was fully human and fully divine or God. The Lds Church has only focused more on Christ’s humanity in order to relate better to God, we do not believe it to the exclusion of being divine or God.
Jesus Christ, The Son of God
That article doesn’t say anything about the Mormon belief of exaltation. It’s a fluff piece, aimed at trying to appear Christian. It leaves out a long list of unique Mormon teachings that Christians reject. Some that Christians would call blasphemous.
Mormon teaching is, that Jesus was in his mortal state half human, half divine. A demigod.
“… try to go along with the Savior, live with him, let him be an actual man, half divine, of course, but nevertheless moving as a man moved in those days.” (Behold the Lamb of God, p. 8.)
The “of course” is conveying that this is something that every Mormon knows, Mormon teaching is that Jesus was then exalted at his resurrection, becoming fully divine.
This also goes toward a Mormon belief regarding Jesus conception. That Jesus was conceived as all of us are conceived, with egg and sperm. Thus, Jesus human body was genetically half divine. Like the old Greek and Roman gods who fathered children with human women.
Preexistence teaching, regarding the divinity of a premortal Jesus has varied over time. Was Jesus’ premortal spirit divine or not? Individual Mormons today have varying beliefs.
A question that doesn’t exist in Christianity, as Jesus IS God. Who has never not been God. For Mormon teaching, Jesus is A God; one God among many.
