did he not say, ‘the perception of the church, currently, is a ship without a rudder’?
forums.catholic-questions.org/showpost.php?p=12486436&postcount=69Please sight direct quotes where Burke criticizes Pope Francis.
Is reading comprehension such a lost art?did he not say, ‘the perception of the church, currently, is a ship without a rudder’?
Oh, please. You are presenting secular media reinterpretations of interviews we have read for ourselves? Got to be kidding. I have read each one of the cardinal’s interviews, nowhere did he criticize the pope except in the minds of liberals who have already decided that the pope is a liberal so anything the cardinal says against liberal fantasies about where the church is going they take to be an attack against the pope. these interviews are in the public domain, you really don’t have to go to rumours and reinterpretations of pagans to find the criticisms if they were there. Not only MSM - the media is alive and well.
Just for starters, but google has several pages, mostly media recaps. Faithful Catholics know better than to become ruffled, take sides, and perpetuate these meaningless arguments, trusting that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide us into truth, as Jesus promised. John 16:13.
This again? So you believe the princes of the Church should shun the vestments which are meant to convey the holiness and dignity of their office and by their very adornment draw attention to the majesty of the spiritual? You would accuse the good cardinal of a personal preference for finery in clothing? Are you likewise offended by the beauty in the Vatican museum or the priceless treasures of gold chalices and artwork that the truly orthodox see as giving glory to God? Are you offended at gothic architecture which speaks of His magnificence and which draws attention to the beauty of His kingdom?I admire what Cardinal Burke says but I wasn’t too impressed seeing him wear the “cappa magna” which is a traditional robe for a Cardinal with an immensely long train (over 10 feet long). Many traditionalists may love it. I consider myself a straightforward Catholic who believes all the church teaches but in the modern world swanning around in these kind of vestments sends an extremely negative message to me as an Orthodox Catholic! I just cannot imagine Jesus wearing this kind of getup. I think this displays some of Cardinal Burke’s lack of understanding of how to evangelize because this sends a very negative and triumphalist message of how he sees himself and the church.
How offensive and in your rash judgment you might just want to read the official transcript in which he was interviewed and said with his own mouth he was a servant of the Church and expressed his absolute submission to go anywhere he was assigned. It appears Cardinal Burke lacks humility and/or realism. It seems like his new position will give him plenty of time and freedom to travel and express his opinions to all and sundry so it may well give him more influence rather than less.

cardinal burke was asked if he thinks the pope should clarify church teaching to clear the confusion, he said yes. A cardinal suggests that the vicar of Christ whose duty it is to confirm the brethren in the faith should do just that. O the horror! What a horrible attack on the pope!
The only other “criticism” is he said “there is a strong SENSE that the church is like a ship without a rudder”. Then he went ahead to calm those fears in that same interview. Was he lying? is there no such sense? only if you don’t have an internet connection do you not know that there is such a strong sense since the synod and many leaders have been trying to calm the faithful.
give us a break. people are attacking cardinal burke because they don’t like his views. period. why else would the secular media that is so illiterate on catholic issues be your source on the meaning of what a cardinal of the church has said on church issues?
And the beat goes on, and on …Oh, please. You are presenting secular media reinterpretations of interviews we have read for ourselves? Got to be kidding.
Like I said elsewhere on this subforum, people are getting up in arms and arguing with one another in a form of gossip which makes no sense, because the Holy Spirit will direct the final results. Why are some so unwilling to wait for that day?Just for starters, but google has several pages, mostly media recaps. I don’t think any of us are privy to the reasons Pope Francis chose the actions he took.I doubt Francis is so petty to let disagreements get in the way of acting in the Church’s best interests.
Why are you so willing to attack a faithful and loyal Bishop of the church based on the fantasies of modern pagans? You have no proof of your accusations yet you feel free to make them as if Cardinal burke is a next door neighbor who last went to church 50 years ago. Do you think your faith requires you to respect the pope alone but disrespect every other Bishop? You owe cardinal burke great respect and an apology before the Christ you claim to worship and whom he represents as a priest but more so as a Bishop. You and every other catholic should be very careful before you rush to type your condemnations onto the internet buoyed by the cheer of pagans who know nothing of Christ and want nothing more than to see the church brought to her knees. It is bad enough to bear false witness, it is quite another to do so against a representative of Christ on earth. Cardinal burke in his “criticisms” has not shown the slightest disrespect for the person of the pope or his office that these internet catholics feel free to show to his person. What a disgrace. You all should get to confession. Defending the pope does not give anybody the right to wrong Bishops. And the beat goes on, and on …
Did you not understand my words? Let me repeat them before I leave this futile discussion.

It wasn’t unprecedented at all. He was on the court 6 years-normally one only serves a 5 year term. In fact he held the position much longer than any of his predecessors.'The highest-ranking American at the Vatican was demoted this weekend, after weeks of vocally criticizing Pope Francis’ liberal leadership of the Catholic Church.
In an unprecedented move for the Vatican, Cardinal Raymond Burke was taken off the church’s highest court to become the chaplain of the Knights of Malta, a Vatican charity group, after vocally opposing the church’s recent progressive moves. His new position holds almost no responsibilities.’

I suspect and pray that we’ll be hearing alot more from Cardinal Burke.
That is not a rehash of anything that I asked for. Where did +Burke say anything that is contrary to what +Francis has stated on any subject?
Thank GodCardinal Burke is still:
A member of the College of Cardinals,
A member of the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts,
A member of the Congregation for Clergy
A member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments,
A member of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, and President of the Commission for Advocates,
He holds one less position than he did before-a position he had held longer than most of his predecessors.
Wow, what is Burke going to do now that he’s not doing anything at all.Cardinal Burke is still:
