There is no danger in putting on a mask to go to the grocery store.
There’s also no danger in not.
Are you a medical professional? Are you familiar with the idea of asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic transmission of covid?

You sneaky devil - you beat me to it!
By 3 minutes. It is one of my favorite chapters of the Bible, and needs to be posted here often. Humility is oft in short supply.

I also like this quote from Thomas Paine when it comes to the topic of the COVID virus:
To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason , and … consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead,

That is why I’m thankful that masks are now mandatory for people in my workplace.
Technically, they’re mandatory at my workplace too. However, wearing a face covering, outside in the heat, while performing physical labor, is neither safe or efficient. Therefore, we’re only mandated to wear it when clocking in or out with other employees.

I do agree it is harder to wear them in the heat. And it has been more difficult to wear them for hours on end and while talking to the public. But I’d rather have the public wear them so I’m happy.

The region that i am living in still has only 1 recorded Covid 19 death and that was a 90 year old man 4 months ago. Masks are mandatory here when one walks outside of your property, when taking public transport or for shopping.

It seems for pubs and restaurants people walk around without masks. I walked 30 minutes today to go to a pub with my mask on without passing many people. Then when I got to the crowded pub everyone there had taken their mask off and were chatting and interacting as usual. (behind closed doors). The owner had placed social distancing markers on floors and tables and asked us to obey them if anyone like an inspector happened to walk in. Actually that might explain why the door was locked when i arrived and there was a sign asking the customers to knock.

Also we had about 20 people playing killer pool and all passing the cue sticks on to the next person. Four months ago before the lockdown i was playing pool 5 times a week and sharing cue sticks with regulars and strangers. I am certain we all had the virus 4 months ago before anyone was expecting it. A couple of the older guys got quite sick back then and went to hospital but everyone recovered.

And to be clear, I’m talking about wearing them in confined, public spaces. If someone works outside away from other people, sure. Don’t wear a mask.

Edit: This post got a little off track. It’s more about whether the government has the ability to mandate it rather than the effectiveness of masks. Thanks
When you say the “ability,” I suppose you mean the “right,” is that it? Does the government have the right to impose compulsory safety measures? I’d say it does. Do I recognize the government’s right to place traffic lights at busy intersections, and to penalize drivers who fail to stop when the light is red? Or should a free citizen have the right to disregard the red light and drive straight across? I think the answer is obvious.

A separate question, as you point out, is whether imposing the use of face masks is a wise decision, in the present circumstances. That is certainly questionable.

I had to wear masks and respirators quite often doing construction work, to protect myself from silica dust and especially asbestos. I did not love the feeling of breathing in a mask, but I wore it anyway, and now it’s not a big deal for me to wear one. I wear a face covering whenever I’m out in public.

In my state, that choice can now cost you $500 for every time you don’t wear the mask indoors or in a crowded outdoor space.
I’m glad I live in a state where we are still treated like adults.

9/10 times, I have to remove my mask to communicate essential information either to a coworker or the public. So unless everyone learns sign language…

A county north of me is threatening the same thing. But the Police, Sheriff, and 911 have said that they cannot enforce it or respond to it.
