To be fair, it is pretty hard to give a detailed and nuanced account of British reformation history in 144 characters. Henry VIII did execute, torture, and imprison his subjects for being Catholic. He outlawed Catholicism. He founded a church on lies, lust, and adultery, which is slightly different than Jesus.

So we both are dealing with a couple of nonstarters.

You are dealing with my pointing out the practical reality of many “solutions” (amnesty, incentivization, catch and release, etc.).

And I have to put up with name calling against me (“nativist”).

You can continue the pejoratives or drop em.

Either way, I am more than willing to have the discussion Luke6_37. But we need to deal with the issues.

Just tell me what you have in mind for border problem solutions. (I don’t want to ignore you Luke. I think your (name removed by moderator)ut is valuable. Seriously. We often disagree but i can get past that stuff. You don’t need to agree lockstep with me for me to like you, take you seriously, and have good discussion together. I’m OK with that. I really am.

My solutions?

A call for new ideas (admittedly I don’t have good solutions).

In the meantime while awaiting new ideas . . . PROTECT our border.

Whatever it really was, I think this type of over-reaction and subsequent discord is a microcosm of what is occurring in our society.

Side with Chamber of Commerce types that are happy to have cheap labor, b) some Democrats view foreign nationals as a potential new voting block, and c) some progressives are intent on destroying American sovereignty.

AFTER they cross they are dealt with by Trump in a particular way that includes the “horrible” separation of parents and children. It is that action AFTER the crossing that is proximate to the horror. \

If you would like to deflect to distal causes, originate causes, root causes or others things (over which our control is comparatively limited) be my guest, but please stop this argument over the meaning of"proximate". :roll_eyes:

You can try over and over to spin the situation, but the truth of the matter is THE CAUSE, the only cause of the situation at the border is foreign nationals illegally crossing our border.
There are three groups that share some responsibility for its ongoing occurrence:
  1. chamber of commerce Republicans who want cheap, vulnerable labor
  2. Democrats who perceive them as a fertile new voting block
  3. Progressives who believe it vital to undermine American sovereignty for their globalist goals
Again, the proximate cause - a proximate cause is an event sufficiently related to an injury, the injury being a violation of our laws and sovereignty - is the illegal crossing of our borders by foreign nationals

I don’t think Downs defines a person as intimately as gender, but I too am horrified at how many children with the condition are aborted each year.

Gender is a category of person, like Jew vs. Gentile and free vs. slave - there is male vs. female.

Downs, I am sorry to say, is (falsely) perceived by many as a lesser degree of person. This is the rational used to justify all abortions, but with children who have Downs, the view is that they will never be fully functioning people.

There was a time, not long ago, when a woman or a black person was considered a lesser degree of person too, but fortunately only vestiges of that kind of thinking remain.

If that were true, the it would not simply be a “current” situation. We have had the crossings in the past, even the recent past that did not lead to tthe current “horrible” situation. After the change in policy, unforced by anyone other than Trump’s administration, we have the current “horrible” situation. You know this. Own it.

Unforced? Really? SoTrump colludes with the coyotes to bring foreign nationals here? I don’t think so. I would be more suspicious of progressives ( thinking of Soros here) doing that.
And let’s not forget that children were kept separate from parents under Obama and Bush, because of a ruling by the rather progressive (even then) Ninth Circuit.
You’re spinning like an old fashioned Maytag here. 😁
