You have a very good point.
For sure there is no law against girls on trapezes, push-ups, bar-bell lifting, hi-wire walking, Tarzan vining, Country Swing, West Coast Swing, Ft Worth Shuffle, square Dancing, Mex Hat Dancing or bowling 10-pins.
Do not publish this post on Diocesan sites. They have no imagination, and they’re always stealin my ideas.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I do not like the dancing but John is right. The “Recessional” is not part of the Mass. The Mass ends with “The Mass is over”. The procession out after the Mass is not technically part of the Mass.
But it’s still the House of God, isn’t it? Poor taste is still poor taste. Respect is still respect (or rather, lack of it).

If that Church were to hold an “indult” Mass, it would be very cruel for the Cardinal to force the indultees to witness this event before or after they leave.

And then they wonder why the SSPX draws so many to Church.

I somehow mustered up the guts to watch this, I’ve seen videos of mahony-isms before. I didn’t know if it was a wretched dance recital or a protestant prayer gathering, or if it was a bunch of people in weird clothes publically displaying psychotic body movements. Too bad Dr. Phil wasn’t there to give them some lithium.

I feel sad for Cardinal Mahony. It is these types of Masses that give the NO a bad name. It’s time we SHOULD cooperate with the Holy Father and work to lessen, if we could not completely eradicate these Masses that doesn’t follow the Vatican’s mandates. 😦

The Eucharistic Vessels look like juice pitchers. I was kinda thinking, ‘Can’t they afford something more beautiful than Glass pitchers’? Are they trying to save money by just using those pitchers in the dish rack?

And what are those Altar Servers supposes to carry?

The ‘Liturgical’ dancing looks like some ballet or musical thingie though. I do wonder why did they strip the Altar at that point, It’s not Holy Thursday yet!

At the risk of interrupting this angerfest, what does this video have to do with a traditional Mass?

No they can’t afford any metal liturgical items, they just built that 100 million dollar cathedral in LA, the taj-mahony. Starving people in Southern California but they can build a 100,000,000 dollar cathedral and incorporate non-catholic themes into it.
I feel sad, that money could have been spent to spread the Gospel of Christ, carry out Christ’s teachings, but no, it went to some building that wasn’t needed.

It gets very hard to make a comment like this without condemning the Vatican and the Catholic Church as a whole, given that it is likely at least one of the richest organizations in the world.

Unless things have changed in the last few years, the Vatican may be rich in assets, but poor in income. They certainly do not run routine surpluses or profits. The Church today reminds me of royalty that have inherited a castle. It is a valuable asset, but the upkeep far exceeds the income (if any) that it produces.

I don’t mean to be rude, but what is the point of posting this? Is it to show that there are liturgical abuses in the Church? We already know this so what is the value of viewing it on a video? I guess I am missing how this is productive.

The point being though that if you look at St Peters, built specifically to be the largest church in the world, and look for instance at the Vatican art collection and the number of the poor its value could feed–and which has been a constant criticism of the Church for a long time–it becomes the pot calling the kettle black to comment on a different cathedral being built for which the money could have been spent on the poor.

The very same people who are criticizing this particular one would almost surely be defending one built by their own “orthodox” bishop, with the perhaps rightful justification that people have a right to put their money into a church glorifying God if they want to. I’ve seen that defense used over and over in threads where people criticize how the Church spends its money.

If one wants to disagree with Cardinal Mahoney on his liturgical issues, that is certainly one’s right. But dragging in this particular argument is inconsistent at best.

Good point. The criticism of the LA cathedral should not be it’s cost, but rather it’s theological and architectural deficiency as a Church.

It’s a pep rally for the “bash Mahoney” team.

In saying that I am not saying I support his views, but this constant bashing of Cardinals and bishops of the Church is getting really old. If you have a beef with the hierarchy, address it privately to the Vatican as we are told to do.

Whether we like them or not, Jesus told us that we are to be obedient to the leaders put in charge of us. The constant public mockery not only creates greater division, but causes confusion with those outside the Church who already watch us sniping at each other very closely.

Very sad.

Where’s Cardinal Arinze? He needs to pay a visit to America.

I used to attend mass at a parish in San Francisco where a member of the parish sat near the altar with a huge sign that said GOD IS GAY. This was not only tolerated but encouraged by the then-pastor. I often wondered what would happen if then-Cardinal Ratzinger happened to walk in. Might have made for an interesting confrontation. And yes, we also had silly liturgical dancers from time to time. I have a dear friend who is thinking about going SSPX. She said that what with all of the abuses going on in the Roman Church, she will take her chances with the SSPX. Not trying to start a argument here, just showing how disheartening all of the nonsense can be. Cardinal Mahony is going to be here this week for the installation of our new bishop. I can assure you–there will be no liturgical dancers!

I can’t help but notice the blatent inconsistency that is shown here. Many of these posters love to post video of liturgical abuses and then decry the “disobedience.” Yet, when a video is posted of a SSPX priest saying Mass, they don’t mention a word about his “disobedience,” they only mention the beauty of the liturgy. Both are instances of “disobedience” but apparently only one is worth noting.

I wish the pope could see the video…
Then send it to them.

Maybe it’s harder to watch liturgical abuses than it it is to watch reverent worship.

True the SSPX are disobedient, but their worship is very reverent and in keeping with the ancient traditions of the Church.

Innovations and liturgical abuses can be pretty hard to stomach.

Maybe that is why you have noticed people decry the videos of liturgical abuses.

The Vatican Art collection isn’t owned by the Church, but it was donated to a non-profit organization dedicated to it’s preservation.

It’s a rather similar relationship to that between the Smithsonian and the Federal Governement.

The only remaining artwork that the Church actually owns are those within the Churches themselves, so yes, I suppose they could tear off the Sistine Chapel ceiling and sell that off to feed the poor. Or, perhaps, sell of St. Peter’s as a whole to Ritz-Carlton, they could develop it into a luxury hotel\Resort.

Thoughts?
