I’m not claiming Trump to be perfect. I just wish the media would stop attacking whatever he does and give him SOME support during these stressful times.
 
I agree. There should be accomodations for nurses and other vital people. But, with social distancing where possible.

Again, who was advising social distancing in early February 2020 when the number of confirmed cases in NYC was zero and the number of suspected cases in NYC was 1?

What was advised in NYC at the time was this:
Again, health officials emphasized for those recently in Hubei province China — or have been in contact with someone who has traveled to the affected area and was ill — and are now experiencing symptoms of this novel coronavirus:

Seek medical care right away. Before you go to a health care provider’s office or emergency room, call ahead and tell them about your recent travel and your symptoms. Hospital staff will not ask you about your immigration status.
After you have been seen by a health care provider, stay home and avoid contact with others until you are well. Wear a face mask if you need to leave your home when sick.
Avoid travel on any public transportation (such as bus, subway, train or airplane) until you feel better.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
Wash hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.

“There is no need to cast aspersions on an entire community because this is happening,” Liu charged. “Diseases originate in particular places in the world and this came from an area of China which is a very large country. The comments being made by some people are unreasonable, if not downright offensive.”

What was the real threat at the time?
And btw, the virus in NYC appears to be from the European clade. Do you have any evidence about there risk of going to Chinatown being greater than stated by the public health officials?
 
It’s good to read that you acknowledge that others did not perceive the threat as much or as quickly as President Trump did. While others’ focus wandered or discouraged travel bans, President Trump took ACTION:


In early and late February, while thousands of coronavirus cases were confirmed across the world, WHO bureaucrats continuously urged nations not to impose travel bans.
“WHO continues to advise against the application of travel or trade restrictions to countries experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks,” an official WHO statement from February 29 reads.

Despite WHO bureaucrats stopping the experts from recommending travel bans to nations looking to keep the coronavirus from spreading, President Trump moved forward with travel bans on China and Iran within weeks of the first confirmed case in the U.S.

That will never happen! Never let a crisis go to waste! The pandemic just gave
them a new weapon in their arsenal of attacks.

I just wish that Trump would rise ot the occasion and do more things worthy of support rather than criticism during these stressful times.
 
Trump is not sympathetic. The reason he is not is very very reasonable. He conducts himself like a bully. He is an exceptionally vindictive president.
With the press, he has used the bully pulpit to attack and destroy them to the extent possible. They have reason not to like him called," normal human reaction."
All of these indulgences of his style are his choice.
So to wonder, " Oh my my, why oh why would they," is a reaction appropriate for mother Theresa or Mr Rodgers, not Trump.
