Yes - America is great - Semper FiFeel free to follow any instructions that you wish.
I feel free to follow the instructions given by Rome.
"The mens [reasoning] is that the prescription of the Institutio Generalis Missalis Romani, no. 43, is intended, on the one hand, to ensure within broad limits a certain uniformity of posture within the congregation for the various parts of the celebration of Holy Mass, and on the other, to not regulate posture rigidly in such a way that those who wish to kneel or sit would no longer be free."
At least here we have the right to use our conscience to follow whomever we choose. Ain’t America great.
I believe that - especially in this case - Rome would actually encourage you to follow the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in general and your Bishop in particular - unless you can direct me to that document … obedience to one’s Bishop where the Bishop is given the authority is something one should consider
Feeling free to act … and claiming to follow one’s “conscience” is how many dissenters defend themselves …
What is true in reality is that following one’s conscience means little more then following one’s personal opinion …
So when you have decided to act in defiance of your Bishop and follow your Conscience -
1] what questions did you ask yourself to reach this decision of conscience?
2] what answers to those questions led you to act in opposition to the Bishop’s instructions
3] how do your actions build up the unity of the Church as the Body of Christ?
Free will is a God given right - we are free to chose for the Body of Christ and Against the Body of Christ …
So - this is my observation regarding this particular instruction and since I live and work 3 hours apart - I regularly attend two parishes - one who follows the Bishop’s direction and one that does not:
At first the change felt strange - after years of standing after the Great Amen and then - re-kneeling until rising again to receive the Eucharist - to remain standing from immediately after the Great Amen to reception - seemed awkward … irreverent even …
However - re-kneeling action - lowering the kneelers and then the constant movement and lifting of the kneelers as each successive row rises and the noise associated with at action - is actually much less reverent then having the the congregation remain standing … IMHO …
When you pick and choose what instructions of your Bishop to follow or not … you set the example for those around you … they then can pick and choose what to follow or not … you can be leading others to into sin … and how important is this posture?
