Non Mexican citizens can’t own property in Mexico due to the results of the Texas revolution. During that time white folks were known as anglos. It has since become a term for foreigners in Mexico.

Yep, which I don’t want repeating. Not when my people are on the losing end.

I see…

Would you like to own land in Mexico, maybe become a citizen?

I’d like to own a whole lot of beach front property that would generate revenue from tourism.

But sadly I can’t. Oh well.

I’d let in anyone that would increase the quality of life for my own people, or people who needed true refuge from true opppression. Not just seeking more material comfort than their own country offered.

What country do you live in? It is difficult to have a discussion without having an idea of your cultural perspective.

Okay, you got me, i am from the UK. Great Brittan. In other-words, the greatest country in the world. We felt it appropriate to give America second place.

So no poor people then. By the way, who are “your people”?

😀 The beauty of being American is that we really don’t care what other countries think of us.

I think some of your opinions will change as more refugees arrive on your soil. People get resentful as their taxes are raised to fund others when you don’t have the money to take care of the people who are already citizens.

American welcome people to chase the American dream. What we ask is that you do it according to the rules we have established.

I am sure that you don’t like houseguests that overstay their welcome or invite strangers to move into your flat.

If you follow the house rules, you are more than welcome to move in.

Why should being poorer than someone else give you free immigration rights? Very different than an obligation of providing food and shelter to the destitute.

Progressives seem to use the word as a cudgel, to moralize and beat other people with.

Not free immigration rights, but rather, not make it impossible for them to immigrate. They come for the same reason why all the first generation Irish, Italians and Germans came here in the first place, seeking opportunity. They should make it easier for people that want to come and work to come.

It isn t always a " progressive" thing…
Being neighbouring countries and Mexico at about 46% poverty and 10% of that extreme,it is the predictable way out.
It happens that people migrate also to or around big cities, and even more around wealthy neighbourhoods in search of opportunity…It is like that…Not that it has to be.
Both US and Mexico happen to be neighbours.
People look for opportunities and some progress.
From their perspective ,situation is dire, and despite welfare in Mexico,US means a chance to work.
This happens also in different neighbouring countries. The difference is that US has a stable economy. People do not come and go as it happens among other neighbouring nations.
They stay there. For the same reason probably American people wouldn’t change it for anything or anywhere because aside from being the homeland,it works…

Now Nicaragua is in very bad shape too.
And Venezuela.
Many people really escape from no future. No prospect of improvement.
National decisions aside,it is always a complicated and complex reality.
Not supporting the illegal, but one can at least understand a bit what is going on.

Many Many Many Mexicans are Catholics. I am surprised to see so many Faithful Catholics express views that echo the Protestant right wing,

Being against illegal immigration =/= being anti-Mexican.

And, as a Catholic, I don’t like the perception that the Church is supportive of people breaking the law to fill her pews. It’s an embarrassment.

I do not know what you mean by " right" or “left” lr “Protestant” when there is such an obvious disparity, gap, breach and at times so difficult to see it anyway surmountable anytime soon.
Sometimes just blocks away.
Illegality in itself doesn’t t work because it is chaotic and helps no one really.
But at the same time one honestly sees that it is really who can bring in money that doors are widely open to.
There is generally no legal path but very brief and temporary for those who come in walking, and at the same time systems with illegality also collapse: education, hospitals…
And at least in US there is some dignity in how they manage to live. This isn t so always elsewhere where people migrate to but mere mirage.

The article is a year old. Or more.
The campaign was for Easter 2017 and it had a purpose of fostering charity and help for people and minors in transit or lost or deported ,and there where places where they were received, and oriented .
Church as home where we are persons.

I get the info in Spanish. Maybe I can translate something better
This is Aleteia,Catholic source also.

I used Google translate for a couple of paragraphs.
See if it is better understood.:

"The Church in Mexico carries out an incessant task of support for migrants. The 70 migrant homes - shelters, soup kitchens, support centers, parishes and care modules that accompany them - are administered by the Catholic Church, by some pastoral groups, religious congregations, committed lay people, as well as by Christian churches, organizations of civil society and government.

Generally, migrant homes become the first refuge of the migrant in transit or deported and “they express on behalf of the Church that nobody is illegal or immigrant and therefore they are able to provide spiritual and moral help”, as he said, in his presentation before the media the general secretary of the CEM.

They are a refuge because they provide protection, roof, water, food, clothing and footwear. And because there they are cared for against all kinds of violations of their dignity and their rights at the same time, said the Mexican prelate, who “is an amparo for minors, in transit” by generously giving them their time and resources. Finally, they offer accompaniment when they return home, when it is needed.

But they are not only reception centers, many of them provide training and education, medical services, legal and human rights advice, calls to find missing family members, transportation support to return to their homeland, accommodation for an indefinite period, attention the 365 days of the year and, most importantly, accompaniment and understanding, keeping a historical record so that relatives and others can trace them in case of disappearance
"
