Did Padre Pio’s father stay in America?
Pio’s father came to America to earn money to pay for his education. Much like migrant workers.
The hate being shown to Phillipinos makes me sad. Asians always end up with the short end of the stick
Yes, we should never hate anyone
I seem to recall his father returning to Italy twice and not moving his entire family to America. He also received zero benefits from the US taxpayers. He paid his own way and did not expect others to support him period. The good saint’s father contributed to America and with no expectation of a handout.

I just can’t understand why you are saying that Hispanics deserve special treatment not afforded to Asians. Many Asians live in horrible situations. Favoring one ethnicity over the other is not very progressive.

People just want opportunities not handouts; It’s not wise to speak about people in such broad terms. It’s not their fault that the Democratic Party wants to make voting blocks out of ethnic groups.

Fair criticism. You are right about speaking about people in broad terms.

You hit the nail on the head with the Democratic Party.

I have no problem streamlining Asian green cards; though Asians are not on our border, and migrant workers are. Thus the population of Filipinos in Australia is quite high, being that Australia is a prosperous country nearby. Streamline the process is all I am saying.

Establishing a formal guest worker program for agriculture would probably make a lot of sense.

However, before doing it, you need to close the border and have only legal immigration.

Aztecs were, as you know, down in Mexico, and yes their custom involved lots of human sacrifice. When the Spanish Catholics arrived to convert and control them, it didn’t go very well with the Natives. It took Divine Intervention via the appearance of Our Lady Of Guadalupe to convert the nation to Catholicism and end the ancient tribal ways.

American Native Indians weren’t known for human sacrifices … Someone more learned than I am in early American history will likely respond to this thread.

Now we’re getting somewhere. Yes. this is right. But I would extend it beyond mere agriculture; and maybe even open up a path to U.S. citizenship, maybe via volunteering in the U.S. Military. Pres. Trump is onto something with the citizenship path he’s proposed.

I’m fully aware of the history.

I don’t see any wrong doing on America’s part.

People who are here legally can go through the citizenship process. That is the way it works.

People who are here illegally have no right to move to the front of the citizenship line. They should leave America and go through the process just like everyone else.

The US is a nation of laws.

I heard president trump today say that our immigration policies should be based on merit. That’s a high standard to set for immigration to our country. Good for our economy.

Step 1: Discover Gold out West.
Step 2: Wage war against the owner of the land.
Step 3) Take two thirds of their land, design some practical political borders and give them some money to call it a purchase…

A border dispute between nuences river and the rio grande after Texas was annexed by the US.

Coupled with the desire of the US to rule the whole continent
Realize that California was known for a long time as El Dorado, meaning “the land of gold” in Spanish. Just weeks–not months-- after the treaty was signed, gold was discovered leading to the largest gold rush in the history of the United States.

So if it was discovered afterward then it stands to reason that the US was making better use of the land and is therefore the better occupant.

Mexico had it for a long time and never discovered the gold apparently. Otherwise they’d have had a larger presence in the region.

Yes, gold; that’s the reason they waged war and conquered the land. American troops invaded, took control and occupied Mexico City, the capital of Mexico. With the Mexican President fleeing and in exile, It was under these conditions that the treaty was formulated and Mexico lost half more than half of its country.

Look, I’m not saying the U.S. should give it back; but at least realize the situation that was behind Mexico losing half of the land. Here is a short video of the siege of Chapultepec in Mexico City and the famous young Mexican hero soldiers who lost their lives defending their country:
