Of the current crop of GOP hopefuls, who is the Man on the White Horse, then? Who clearly articulates his position, takes strong positions and has the track record to back them up? 🤷

I think the best candidate the GOP has right now is probably Daniels, but he may not be running. Pawlenty could also be competitive, but its sounding like problems in his home state and increasing unhappiness with the way he handled the end of his term as governor may weaken him. Romney is a strong campaigner, but I think he has gathered too much flip-flopping baggage at this point. There could be a dark horse out there, but among the declared and pseudo-declared candidates I don’t see anyone else that could be strong candidate in Nov.

No, he just cheated on the same one over and over and over again, often using the Secret Service to cover up his Oval Office indiscretions.

There were SO MANY sexual “issues” going on with Bill and Hillary Clinton.

For example: never did get a satisfactory answer to how Vince Foster just happened to be killed with an untraceable gun.

Correct. He didn’t cheat on “all his wives.” They’re still together, which is more than Gingrich can say about his first marriage.

Who’s asking about that these days? Do you think that Gingrich is going to point to that as partial cover for his own lack of character?

The absolutely wonderful thing about Gingrich is that he met his third wife, converted to Catholicism, repented of his past misgivings, and is working on making restitution for them…all things that we as faithful Catholics are called to do, right? Apparently he has worked to repair his relationships that he hurt. I’d rather affiliate with a repentent sinner than a gloating one.

It was a heck of a deal. Bill got to be a serial adulterer as long as he advanced Hillarys carreer. I wonder if being Senator and Secreatry of State is adequate compensation for the ongoing public humiliation she put up with?

Christie is certainly a possibility, but he has said he is not running. If he is planning to run, or others are planning to draft him, they should do it soon (meaning by about June). Right now, the cable and blog coverage makes it seem like the GOP is putting forth mostly unserious and unelectable candidates (Gingrich, Palin, Bachman, Cain, Trump, etc). The GOP can’t afford to have that appearance continue all summer, and then roll out the ‘real’ candidates (Daniels, Christie, etc) in the fall.
 
Back to the OP. Bachmann is going to form and EXPLORATORY COMMITTEE, i.e., so is going to put together a group to study her chances of running a successful Presidential campaign. She may come to the very conclussion that many people here have come to, that she is too caustic to independent voters to have any real shot. Plus, the last Congressperson who won the White House without executive experience is Abraham Lincoln, and he wasn’t serving an active term in the House when he was elected.

As long as Obama is the Democratic candidate any Republican candidate is electable. I suspect the Democrats realize this and the real question in 2012 is whether Obama will have primary challengers.

OK, now you are just dreaming. I think that there are very competitive GOP candidates out there, but most of those grabbing headlines right now - including Bachman, Gingrich, Palin, Santorum, Cain and Trump - are not among them. There will not be a serious primary challenge to Obama. A lot can happen in the time from now to Nov 2012, but as things stand right now Obama will be a formidable candidate.

This is plain silly IMO. Any GOP candidate? Palin, Huckabee, Bachmann - electable above Obama? He may well be defeated, but not by any of those three.
