I didn’t watch the debate but I bet everyone who watched stayed firmly entrenched in their positions on who they’re voting for and think they’re person won.

Debates are pointless.

Would you have an example?
An example from the debate? I don’t remember the questions specifically enough to do this.

One not from the debate may be questions on what to do about Trump’s alleged refusal to the idea of a peaceful transfer of power. In providing some plan, someone may appear to acknowledge that Trump refuses a peaceful transfer. The difference is subtle, but Trump hasn’t refused peaceful transfer, he has avoided giving an answer beyond “we will see about that.”
Debates are pointless.
I don’t think what we have are really even debates, but are performances. I said earlier it is like having two people perform two very dissimilar genres of music and asking who played best. The responses would be more introspective of each listener than the performers.

Throughout this thread there were different interpretations of not only the quality of their answers, but even their body language and paralinguistics.

But I agree. I don’t think this changed minds.

I’ll be looking for the counts someone did.
How many interruptions Pence made vis how many interruptions Harris made.

Also another count.
How many times the Moderator had to say “Vice President Thank You” when he would not yield and over talk the Moderator vs how many times Moderator had to say “Senator Thank You”.

Pence the bigger problem of obeying the Debate Rules that both sides agreed upon.

Without counting, it looks that Pence claimed a lot more screen time than Harris.

I chose not to watch. I knew it would upset me. I’m tired of the lies, hate and name calling. How did debate go?
A great display of the word of the day.

tergiversation

noun

ter·gi·ver·sa·tion | \ ˌtər-ˌji-vər-ˈsā-shən , -ˌgi-; ˌtər-ji-(ˌ)vər- \

Definition of tergiversation

1 : evasion of straightforward action or clear-cut statement : EQUIVOCATION
A lot of one question being asked and responses that don’t quite address the question. They both appeared to speak past their time, but Mike appeared to do much more of it.

As one of the news outlets is quipping, it was a sedate debate. After watching the chaotic first presidential debate, I had trouble sleeping since it left me feeling so agitated. Last night, I slept well and peacefully. Both candidates relied on their usual talking points, but they did so behaving more like civilized adults.

I saw that she did know the questions on FB. Someone posted a tweet from VP Pence. He said that they found out that she knew the questions beforehand! WOW!
How did she find out what the questions would be?
Y.A.C.T…

The implications of Roe were made clear by late-term abortionist Warren Hern,
My! Partisan sites do extrapolate.

The fact is and the cases show that Roe v. Wade never authorized abortions up to the date of birth. Biden has never stated support for abortions up to the date of birth. To state something to the contrary is ignoring facts and is just plain wrong. Pence should know better.

It’s happened before, but I don’t think there is any credible evidence of it happening here.

I thought it was pretty close, actually. Both dodged lots of questions, him probably more than her. His talking over her and refusing to yield at the end of his time was annoying to me. I didn’t find her expressions and so forth to be annoying, but I get that some people did.

In the end, neither did any real harm, which is about par for VP debates. Given that Harris doesn’t need to move the ball, but the Trump campaign needs to change the conversation somehow, I think it was net benefit to Biden - but certainly not a game changer.

I thought him saying at the beginning that it was a privilege to share the debate stage with her was a nice and sportsmanlike touch.

It is my understanding that overturning RW will only leave the matters of abortions to the states. There are no plans to make it illegal for the whole country AFAIK. Only an Amendment to the US Constitution can do that.

This is true, of course. It is also notable that both of them dodged the question of what they thought the law should be in a post RvW world.
