How about we dress like the Waltons?

I agree with that, but be careful! A lot of people on this forum will attack you for that.

It’s pretty common here to see men’s shirts with stuff like “Iowa Lacrosse Club 1978” or “Red Canyon Hiking” or some such nonsense with a crest or badge on it when it’s super, super obvious that the person has never in their lives had anything to do with any of those activities.
There’s no intention to deceive. It’s just fashion. Not everyone wearing a New York Yankees cap is claiming to have played professional baseball.

I do not have a tuxedo, so no. I wear the best that I can though.

I can’t believe you won’t rent a tux for God. Cmon man.

(You see why this quickly gets ridiculous, right?)

As a side note, a tuxedo would feel WAY out of place Mass. Even the suits worn by the ushers would feel out of place if they weren’t ushers. (Excepting Christmas and Easter when the dress code goes up because all the people that don’t regularly attend up the dress code.)

I have seen modesty threads but they’re usually directed at modesty for women. What are some modesty tips and tricks for men?
I try to remember to mind my own business in speech, thought, and consumption.
I don’t have to consume everything in front of me, of talk about it, or think about it.

Shorts are fine for walking on the beach or something.

But to go to a place of worship, long dress pants, a neat dress shirt and neck tie is just a lot more appropriate.

Unless churches have A/C, you won’t see that in the summer time.

It would be nice if summer suits came back, but it doesn’t seem likely.

Like I said up thread, you shouldn’t be drawing attention to yourself. Dressing in an obviously distinct fashion from everybody else is not necessarily modest, either.

Nonsense. Every well-dressed gentleman needs at least one good Fedora.
A fedora is acceptable for casual wear. For more formal occasions, however, a top hat is essential.

Men shouldn’t wear hats in church or any place indoors, regardless of how formal the head gear is.

Man, I hope this is tongue in cheek.
Not at all.
A fedora is acceptable for casual wear.
If it’s a casual fedora, certainly. But my gray rabbit-fur Stetson is anything but casual.
Men shouldn’t wear hats in church…
Of course not, but no one implied that they should. And it’s not true that a gentleman can never wear a hat anywhere indoors. It’s perfectly appropriate to leave them on in public buildings, or the public areas of a building such as lobbies, elevators and hallways.

Bear in mind he was writing for a different time. (Consider that in the past, prostitutes wore more clothing than what we consider modest these days.) In addition there is no requirement from the Church to veil.
Modesty standards change with time, but I believe God’s standards do not. Most churches do not enforce dress codes, but that says nothing about what God approves of.

This was Saint Jacinta in 1920 (message from Our Lady): “the sins which bring most souls to hell are the sins of the flesh. Certain fashions are going to be introduced which will offend Our Lord very much. People who serve God should not follow fashions. The Church has no fashions; Our Lord is always the same…”
Why would you assume that?
I’m just guessing, imagining what he would answer if i asked.

If the clothing most people wore at Mass was mortally sinful, the Church would’ve spoken.
