It’s ok for men to curse, drink, smoke, get tatoos and visit the “oldest profession” (both male and female) since time began, but that is ok, cause they are “men” and “men” do those things and it’s ok. One confession, and it’s all erased. In the meantime, back in the 40’s and 50’s, men could do all this, and beat the **** out of their wives and boss them around like servants, and that’s ok, cause they are “men”. Women in the 50’s who did have the opportunity to go to college, were not looking for a BS, PHD, , they were looking to get their MRS degree. Just a mere 20 yrs prior, women could not own land, have or earn their own money (if they had inherited money, they had to marry right away so a “man” could manage/squander it:shrug

. My southern great grandmother was a perfect example. Not only could she not vote, she could not own anything. She had to get “permission” from her husband to do most anything. It got worse in the 50’s when all women had to look forward to was shining their white Westinghouse fridge, and beaming with pride at the new Hoover, hubby got them for Christmas. If my husband ever got me a “housework” appliance as gift, he would be wearing it.
In the 70’s women were being told that “man” with an engineering degree, teaching degree, or the manager of a restaurant was entitled to make more money than a women doing the same job with the same qualifications. Really?
I believe there was a small awakening during WWII when the Rosie had to go to the shipyards and learn to rivet and weld. Women were the back bone of WWII. They weren’t home making a pot roast, they were crawling all over ships and aircraft putting them back together again. My grandmother was a Rosie. Her biggest problem was she had to wear “pants” and she hated that idea. Imagine that. But she knew if she wanted to put food on the table for 5 kids, something had to give.
If Danica Patrick at 110 lbs, can race a car around a track, she should be able to. If a women walks into an auto garage and wants to pull engines and repair transmissions and is good at, she should be giving the opportunity. Danica Patrick looks far from “butch”. Danica McKeller could best anyone on this board in the field of Mathematics. Laila Ali and Lucia Rijker have done well in boxing. Not my thing, but I wouldn’t dream on denying them the opportunity. Judith Livers Brewer first “paid” female firefighter. My mother pulled tobacco in the hot SC summer sun along side my grandmother, not an easy task.
If the young woman in the OP has the skill, qualifications, knows the physical and mental risks, she should be able to play. How many perky cheerleaders have been seriously injured throwing each other up in the air only to hit the ground? All sports come with risk, playing boys/men or girls/women come with risks.
