One question answered and two to go. Congratulations Hosemonkey but stop monkeying around and answer the other two. As I do not know what Elder you are referring to I can not answer your question specifically. However I am assuming that you are referring to President Henry D. Moyle. The television interviewer was antagonistic towards the Church. Instead of entering into a debate with him he followed the example of the Savior. He taught him the principles of the gospel that lay behind the criticism. You are also starting out with a false assumption that leads to a wrong conclusion. We have evidence but not proof that the Book of Mormon is what it claims to be. As you describe us as brainwashed this leads to another question. Have you any evidence of this or is this another one of your truths that you hold to be self evident?
“Evidence” is not sufficient to attach ANY credibility to the BOM or any other mormon “scripture.” The “reformed egyptian” text fobbed off on gullible mormons by Joe Smith was just another example of the lengths that he went to to scam the people. There was evidence that it was indeed an ancient text, but the “proof” was simply not there. Turned out to be the “Book of Breathings”. You can be brought into court by evidence, but you must be convicted by proof. No proof exists for mormonism. If it existed, the mormon organization would shout it from the housetops.

Congratulations on being gutter-free and finally seperated from those indecent Mormons.
Thank you, mesenja. I never said or implied that Mormons (as a group) are indecent. But I have observed first-hand that as a group they are sad and unhappy and they don’t know why. And their theology is very wrong and even blasphemous.

God love you,
Paul

A PREPONDERANCE OF THE EVIDENCE is sufficient in a court to persuade a jury or judge that the facts are more probably one way than another. Again Hosemonkey you start off with the faulty assumption that only the gullible believed the claims of Joseph Smith. You have no proof of that.

View of The Hebrew (i.e. BOM)
Ethan Smith’s book is largely a compilation of material from the works of other writers, particularly James Adair and Elias Boudinot

Both books argue that the American Indians are descendants of the Hebrews

Both books relate the discovery of buried records

Both books refer to inspired prophets and describe objects resembling the Urim and Thummim and the breastplate of the Hebrew high priest

Both books refer to written characters similar to Egyptian hieroglyphs

Both books claim that the Indians were separated into civilized and barbarous cultures and that the civilized people were exterminated by the barbarous Indians

Both books emphasize the destruction of Jerusalem, refer to the scattering and restoration of Israel, quote frequently from Isaiah, and claim that American Gentiles are to play an important role in restoring the Indians back into the house of Israel

Both books condemn pride and seeking of riches, and both praise the virtues of the Indians.

Both books describe the appearance of an important person on the American continent – Christ and Quetzalcotl

In addition, Ethan Smith discusses only one theory about the migration of people to the Americas. He holds that they took a northward journey across Asia to the Bering Strait and then spread southward. Adair mentions this theory once
But the parallels actually testify to the fact that the Book of Mormon agrees with many of the popular theories and speculation of the day

But if you want me to engage you in a debate I have neither the time nor the interest to do so.

You have us mixed up with Jehovah Witnesses. Maybe you can find a Muslim to debate with as you seem to be so eager to do so.

Just a suggestion, lose the large, bold type. It sounds like shouting and is rude. If you do not want to be compared to zerinus and ignored, calm down and listen. You are a non-Catholic guest on this forum and should conduct yourself accordingly. I and others on this forum have researched the claims of mormonism thoroughly and have found very little merit in them. Simply wishing will not make it so. If you have anything to add other than the official mormon party line, we would be glad to listen. I would like to see hard archeology, hard DNA evidence, artifacts from Hill Cumorah, photographs if possible. Anything else is mere speculation on your part.

But if you want me to engage you in a debate I have neither the time nor the interest to do so.
If you are not here for debabe  then why are you here? You posted questions and demanded answers to those specific questions before you would go on??

I think you Mormons are all in need of prayer. You seem very confused.

I came here to challenge what Melanie Anne said about the missionaries by asking her these 3 questions. If it wasn’t for her post I most likely would not be here.
  1. How are the missionaries trained to be deceitful?
  2. What are some examples of how missionaries are being deceitful?
  3. Are the returned missionaries that you have quotes from still in good standing in the Church?
Subsequent accusations keep being made and all I ask is that they be substantiated. Sorry to tell you this Philothea but I make it a policy not to debate. I am also sorry that you find some fault in my not wanting to jump from topic to topic. Is there any benefit to debating with someone whose mind is already made up and are making the facts fit their preconceived conclusion? If so can you please inform me of what that would be?

“I make it a policy not to debate”

Then go elsewhere.

You contradict yourself in your own post.

Challenging a person’s post automatically assumes you are stimulating a debate. Yet you conclude with saying its your policy not to debate.

Why should Melanie Anne be compelled, by you, to substantiate anything when you can’t even give a clear direction as to whether you want an answer or not?

Please explain your position.

Not in a criminal trial which would call for evidence beyond a reasonable doubt. Which is what happened to Joseph Smith when he was found guilty of criminal fraud by an OH jury.

There is also the clear and convincing proof standard used in assessing claims such as yours in a court of law.Funny how you pick the lowest and easiest burden to prove your point.

Lucky for you, this is America where we are given a Constitutional Guarentee for Freedom of Religion. This guarentee requires no proof whatsoever. The only thing that is prohibited are certain actions such as polygamy.

Melanie Anne has every right to make unsubstantiated claims. I think I have every right to ask her for proof. Next time however I will let falsities go unchallenged. Then I will be guaranteed not to be guilty of self contradiction.
