Nope, you got that one wrong. No record of a child with JS but plenty of children with her future husband. She seemed to have a happy life and later when asked about her relationship with JS by one of her children, responded: that is a matter for her alone.

You should follow her advice. 🙂
Obviously the child was raised by someone else. As was also a common practice.

If she had nothing to hide she could say, nothing happened.

Yes, that is the advice of Mormons, don’t ask difficult questions.

why me;3754484:
Fanny left the area with her parents. A short time later she married and bore nine children with her husband. Fanny’s marriage to JS was a sealing and this is why fanny could marry her future husband without a hitch.

No pregnant belly for fanny with JS.
So, you are saying that the dissenting members slandered JS ie; the whispering, because they were against polygamy as JS was introducing it into the belief system?

I would say they are very different, but you are welcome to your views.
People are notorious for believing what they want to believe…

I’m as guilty as anyone of that… but there is a reason women and most men do not want to accept polygamy, as you seem to…

like i said, polygamy violates the very concept of marriage, the very purpose for marriage… If you want to mess around, that’s your choice, but don’t try to give it respectability by calling it marriage… Marriage is between one man and one woman.

And you have made it clear you have a double standard since you want to have many wives but don’t want them to have many husbands…

Just being honest, but the Mormon religion is … well, i had best not say what i think…

where in the D&C does it COMMAND polygamy?
the JST was so finished. ample evidence is available on that. i have a copy. the reason the LDS don’t use it is cuz the RLDS (CoC) hold the copyright. it’s quoted from all the time in LDS lesson manuals and the footnotes of the LDS KJV. so once AGAIN show me where God specifically COMMANDS polygamy.
We do make use of it, but no the JST was not finished.

Those are assumptions. Personally I’m not a big fan of plural marriage, but my personal views don’t override Gods commandments.

you are saying God ever commanded polygamy?

OK… I give up… :banghead:

Actually, there is one more thing:

There is no marriage in Heaven… So why would God place any importance whatsoever on whether a person was married AT ALL… even to ONE person… much less Why would He think that having more than ONE partner was a good thing??

Mormons believe Joseph Smith was commanded to practice polygamy. All evidence to the contrary.

edit to add: teancum blurs the lines between what is in the Bible and what is in Mormon scripture. Not an attack, just saying.

and yet there is evidence that it was. the RLDS/CoC have used it for years. why do you think it wasn’t finished?
Because I’ve seen nothing to indicate that it was finished. It looks far more like a quick run through to address the largest issues. Sort of like coming up on a major medical emergency the most vital issues are taken care of first and the smaller less threatening issues are dealt with latter. As to how done JS was I don’t know, but I suspect that there was still a far ways to go.

Christ said that people would not be getting married in the resurrection. These too are not the same. As I understand it there is no birth in Vatican City, but that does not mean there is no life.

even the staunchest LDS apologists admit that at the very least the NT was finished and only the OT is in question… JS own journal entries have him claiming to have completed it. Emma smith claimed he finished. Brigham young wanted to use it as the LDS bible but when emma refused to give or even sell him the manuscript he had to stay with KJV. the “incomplete” is a faith promoting rumor to cover for the fact that the RLDS/CoC have the copyright.

I’m well aware they have the copyright. It is for sale in most unofficial LDS bookstores.

so what causes you to claim it’s incomplete?
Because I do not think that JS was able to give each verse a good review and correct every little problem in the text. A lot was done and there are corrections from Gen to Rev., but that and being 100% complete are not the same thing.

so “you think” trumps JS own written account? he spent more time on it than he did the BoM so how would he not have been able to do this? or do you believe that he just reviewed it critically and “corrected” it himslef using his own spiritual enlightenment?

Well having not read “JS own words” on that specific issue I can’t say for sure. Given the frequency with which LDS writings are poorly understood I’m going to have to hold of on taking your word on the meaning of what JS is said to have written.

fair enough. would you at least look at LDS sources though so that we can at least agree on the NT being complete?

In the Bible. Do you Mormons ever read (the real) Bible?? No, i am not being sarcastic, just want to know… I heard you had a different Bible… anyway, people asked Jesus this: If a man died and left a wife, and his brother married her… and then that brother died and another brother married her… to raise up children… whose wife woiuld she be in Heaven… He said there was no marriage in Heaven… (Gospel… don’t know where… no Bible handy)…

Mormons have the king james bible. The Joseph Smth translation is footnoted at the bottom. In sunday school or in any other meeting it is very seldom used. Usually mormons just read what is written in the king james without referring to the JST.

Good gravy you ask “Mormons” read the real bible and than miss quote from it in the same paragraph.
The LDS people read from the Bible often. We use the KJV as a general rule.

Christ taught that
“For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.” Matt 22:30

This does not mean that there will be no marriage in heaven.

I think this illustrates a major factor in many discussions. You are quoting your understanding of the Bible as if it where the Bible itself. There is a big difference.
