Thanks. God designed it a certain way, yes. So why are so many Protestant churches (actually “all”) supporting ABC as a licit means to space births?
If you look into the historical aspects of this matter, you will find that all of Christianty whether Roman, E. Orthodox, Protestant etc supported the idea that ABC was intrinsically evil until the 1930’s (after Lambeth). Why do many (not hardly all actually) protestants support ABC? Simply because in Protestantism all semblence of ancient Christian tradition is lost, what is known is whatever the current generation chooses to teach the next by and large (not universal either). Many bought ABC hook line and sinker, despite what scripture has to say on the matter.

Because Protestants have descended into moral relativism. They don’t have an authority to say, “This is right,” or “this is wrong,” because in Protestantism, it’s every man for himself, no matter what your church says.

Protestants want to do what is easy instead of what is right, whereas the Church strives to do what is right even if it isn’t easy.

Also, there are many Protestants who do practice NFP and oppose contraception. See here: nfpandmore.org/notjustfor.shtml

Serap, given that the majority of Protestant denominations accept abortion (an Episcopalian bishop even called it a “blessing”!) do you think Catholics should as well?

That was a shocker.

oooo wanner, you are crossing a line of insulting Protestants here. I’m sure you don’t mean to, but you have to remain charitable to Protestants on this thread.

Just my 2 cents.

But wanner47 is correct, despite any claims they make to the contrary Protestants don’t have any authority other than themselves. That’s not insulting, it’s a fact.

I agree, she has said nothing against Protestants just stating facts:shrug:

Serap, I used to BE Protestant. I’m giving you my experiences.

You avoided my question, though. If most Protestants accept abortion, should Catholics? Just as if all Proestants accept contraception, should Catholics?

Because Focus on the Family, the be-all-end-all of Protestant family issues resources, says there is no direct prohibition of contraception and masturbation in the bible.

From a former Protestant, no less.

Kind of funny that the ones standing up for the Church are the ones that haven’t been raised Catholic…actually it’s not funny at all, it’s sad!

10 years this Easter for me:signofcross:
I was raised Protestant and that’s why I am able feel more compassion and empathy.

As a Catholic convert you should know:

FIFTH QUESTION

Why do the texts of the Council and those of the Magisterium since the Council not use the title of “Church” with regard to those Christian Communities born out of the Reformation of the sixteenth century?

RESPONSE

According to Catholic doctrine, these Communities do not enjoy apostolic succession in the sacrament of Orders, and are, therefore, deprived of a constitutive element of the Church. These ecclesial Communities which, specifically because of the absence of the sacramental priesthood, have not preserved the genuine and integral substance of the Eucharistic Mystery cannot, according to Catholic doctrine, be called “Churches” in the proper sense.

I am so glad that my fellow parishers and priest friends do not share this smug attitude. Most of my clergy friends have the utmost respect for any Christian of any denomination.

No one is saying that these folks aren’t worthy of respect. But in the Catholic (and probably Orthodox) understanding, these traditions do not have what has histoically defined the word “Church”. Most of these “churches” would have it no other way and go through all sorts of contortions to disprove AS anyway.

And besides, there are plenty of faith traditions that do have valid apostolic succession that for one reason or another, don’t get the Vatican stamp of approval either.
