How sad. A leader of a flock that will not adress the needs of his people unless they specificaly ask. I sure that makes everyone feel absolutely wonderful-whether is good for their immortal souls debateable.

It appears you are be in one of those unfortunate Parishes where the majority believe the only sin is believing there is sin
And lemme guess. You belong to one that teaches and rules with an iron fist, intimidating those that are in need of a little comforting? Really, some of the responses in this thread are quite disturbing. It is as if no one is actually human.

It truly is no wonder they are closing parishes across my area, and many parts of the country. Is this really the same Church that was started by Christ? You remember. The one that ate, dined and made apostles out of sinners? Even one that denied him three times, and another that eventually fully betrayed him? Sometimes I think not.

Now before someone barks at me that Church teaching is Church teaching, we can’t be liberal, this is how it is etc. etc. I realize all that. But again, outside of these forums, you know, the real world, which many of you with 10’s of thousands of posts should visit once in a while, things are not always that clear and easy.

Judge not, and you shall not be judged, are words that an awful lot of people here need to keep repeating to themselves.

Well with regad to the subject matter you write about, and your question “is this really the Church Christ started”, I guess my question to you is “have you read the fathers”?

Honestly, the EFC’s make Fr. Carapi look tame. I’m all for charity, don’t get me wrong. I spend some time arguing for greater charity in this very thread. But at some point, a truth is just a fundamental truth, and it can’t be sugar coated.

Well I know of many Protestants that would disagree with you and then state that the Catholic church worships idols and has Pagan rituals ingrained it her church.

This would be a very disrespectful comment made to a Catholic. ( one that I personally disagree with btw.)

I disagree with this and it depends where one is coming from.

Look guys…I AM following the rules 🤷 I AM using NFP 🤷 I AM living the life of a good Catholic…I go to church if my kids allow; I go to Confession.
Please stop treating me as though I am some naughty little girl who needs to be spanked!

I am simply stating objectively that belittling Protestants is not charitable. Fulton Sheen is a hero to most, but to me, he’s judgemental.

My close priest friend once told me that everyone has their faith in some way and that we should never judge them. He told me that even someone who goes to church once a year is demonstrating his faith in some way. He said that he cannot make any judgements on anyone and that it’s up to God.

One can objectively say anything, but like theory, putting it into practice is not always going to demonstrate that the theory is always correct.
I’ve seen lot’s of Fulton Sheen, never ever did he come across judgmental.😦

Please try to find the episode when a prostitute showed up in his confessional to “kill time” See how he acted towards her.

Also try to find the episode when he speaks about the man who on his death bed, refused the Sacraments, and threw Fulton Sheen out of the room. See how he acts about that.

Fulton Sheen showed the most compassion towards these two than I’ve ever witnessed.😦

If one goes around throwing the truth at these vulnerable people, they will just bark and walk away from religion entirely.
I’m a kid and I don’t agree with this statement.
My good priest friend has a much more gentle approach. He’s kind and befriends people. He NEVER preaches or acts holier than thou. He lets people into his circle…he invites them to join him in the parish hall…he personally shakes everyone’s hand and hugs the women and children before mass begins and then does the same when they leave.
One of our best ** social ** buddies is Father Mike. Intelligent, funny, enthusiastic…

One of our greatest Teachers is Father Mike…You see he challenges us kids and grownups to support why we think something i.e abortion …contraceptives should be allowed. He doesn’t just say because the Vatican says…He will ask for you to research and support your stance. Such as prove that it is anything near “Social Justice” - when abortion ignores the most innocent and vulnerable of society… “Justice”.

PS As for your new to be Priest friends supporting contraceptives - I seriously doubt that.

Could you offer something supporting this claim? Open support could stop their ordination and even cause excommunication. AND they know this.

Yet you write the above post?🤷🤷

I was raised Protestant and that’s why I am able feel more compassion and empathy.
Compassion and empathy for what? No one said anything rude or unkind, we spoke the truth; sometimes it hurts!

What would he have said if you asked the direct question: “When Father, is abortion not murder?”
He would have said something like,

“<> this is a very difficult subject for you and I understand how you must be feeling about it.” then he’d put his hand on you or his arm around you (depending on how well he knows you). Then he would say, “> abortion is the action of murdering an unborn child, yes.”

If the other person didn’t mention “murder” then he would use a more gentle word like “destroy”.

Father is very sensitive to other people’s feelings, so his approach is always direct, but gentle…the more sensitive the person, the more gentle.

He believes in baby steps with people when he is evangelizing.

I find you to come across as very arrogant also (in this thread) and lately you have seemed to be attacking me a lot in other threads.

You do not particularly like me and that’s ok.

No. My good priest friend does not support contraceptives at all.

His approach still remains calm and gentle in all matters.

But that doesn’t answer what I asked.

I asked “When Farther, is abortion never murder?”

Then you are a very unique “kid”. You should be proud of youself for being strong and not going with the grain.
My church, St. Michael the Archangle then behaves in a way which should cause it to bleed members… But instead it continues growing. Dispite a recent financial melt down.

Woe to those who call evil good
and good evil,
who put darkness for light
and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter.
Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes
and clever in their own sight.

Well if you see me as arrogant, that’s your opinion and I’m fine with it. I’m not attacking you. I disagree with you on most issues, there’s a difference between that and attacking. 🤷

Back to the thread…NFP good…ABC bad:thumbsup:

Don’t jump all over me, but I am friends with a few guys that will become priests this June. They are all around age 29, 30, and ALL of them think that birth control is ok and that the church will eventually change it’s stance.

I asked them yesterday actually and that’s what they told me.

Ok…I’m going to take cover now :hey_bud:
No. My good priest friend does not support contraceptives at all.

Are the first two friends of yours, the heretical seminarians, your soon to be bad priest friends?

If they are about to be ordained they know what the Church teaches on contraception and of the inability of the Church to change doctrine. If what you claim is true then they are dishonest and have no business being ordained. As a faithful Catholic you are obligated to convey this information to your bishop, instead of posting it on an online forum as though somehow a pair of heretics can alter the teaching of Christ.

:clapping:

This is the ponit I have been trying to get across on to deaf ears it seems.

Evangalization (even to current Catholics) is a process that takes time. You first need to gain their trust; you need to come across with empathy and kindess. You gently direct them to the “truth” and when they have questions, you answer with gentle reasoning and empathy. You don’t take the cold approach with iron fist throwing the truth into their face.

This is lacking very much on CAF.

The seminarians are now in the U.S. (where they will be ordained). I’m not going to report anyone to the Bishop. I don’t wish to do that.

My good priest friend is in his 50’s and he is a very conservative priest who dedicates every day of his life to serving the church and he does it with grace and compassion.

His attitude is that everything looks great on paper, but in reality we are all sinners and he approaches all people with open arms.

Serap, in the context of this thread we’re not evangelizing Protestants. 🤷 We, as Catholics, are discussing Catholic doctrine. My priest is also kind, gentle, and very soft-spoken. But he also does not shy away from the truth. He calls abortion murder and contraceptives a sin, and is clear that the Catholic Church has the fullness of truth.

To be perfectly clear, I know you do not contracept, and I commend you for it. But to be honest, your attitude worries me because it seems that you’re heading down the path of moral relativism. I’ve seen this before, with other friends who eventually ended up leaving the Church. 😦 I would be very sad indeed if you left Catholicism.

Now, I’m wondering if you could answer this question for me… I asked it a few pages ago but this thread moves fast and you may have missed it.

Do you believe that the Catholic Church was given teaching authority by Jesus Christ? Yes or no?

How was that boasting? I don’t get how that is boasting?
You are claiming that a pair of heretical seminarian buddies of yours will change the truth and destroy Christ’s Catholic Church.

It’s not going to happen.
