Nobody needs a cell phone.
Doing and done all of the above. What more can I cut? We do have a cell phone for work and because I am pregnant but otherwise I would give it away.

Some people really do not have much leeway in their budgets, it’s the truth.

We don’t have a land line, only cell phones. A lot of people do this.

If you have both a land line and a cell phone, Jane, it might be cheaper to cut the cell phone out completely and/or get prepaid phones, as opposed to a monthly plan.

You can drop your ISP.

Work pays for most of it.

Entrust your cares to the Lord
and he will support you.
He will never allow
the just man to stumble
.

I’d suggest financial peace university again. The budgeting methodology taught, tools and the positive reenforcement you get in class is invaluble. I can’t recommend it highly enough, it’s really made a huge impact in my family’s life. No longer are we living paycheck to paycheck, we have no CC debt to speak of (going to pay off the last $300 soon) and we are not paniced anymore. Even with $5k of medical bills (out of our pockets), all kinds of repairs to make to our new home (just purchased), as well as installing a new lawn (sod) and fencing and I can’t even tell you how many more purchases coming down the pipe.

Is it possible for your partner get a part-time job at night to help make ends meet until you go back to work after the baby is born? I have a friend with six children who works evenings at Office Max to help make ends meet.

Can you trim your grocery bill by going to a mostly meatless diet?

Can you cut your electricity bill by using candles instead of electric lights at night, and/or not turning on the A/C unless it’s needed (I know you’re in Miami and it’s definitely needed!)?

Can you cancel your internet and use the public library for computer access?

Thank you for sharing that resource. I will check it out.

no he doesn’t b/c it’s not true.

NFP when used correctly is 98% effective.

The pill 99% effective

Condom 89%
those are method failure rates, not user failure rates.

User failure rates are lower.

Serap, with respect, you are incorrect.

Conditions for a mortal sin:
  1. It must be of a grave matter; (violating the unitive and procreative aspects of the marital act is grave matter)
  2. It must be committed with full knowledge that it is a mortal sin; (if she has read this thread, she is aware of this)
  3. It must be committed with full consent. (she has consented)(CCC# 1857)
Going by the Church’s criteria, janesansible would indeed be in mortal sin if she contracepts. 😦

Jane, have you gone to a pregnancy resource center or crisis pregnancy center in your area and asked for help? They might be able to provide assistance to you.

What did your parish say when you asked for help?
Actually fear is not fully having knowledge. Fear prevents the knowledge from being 100% culpable.

A priest told me this when we talked about masturbation.

Anyway, this is up to God, not us. She knows the rules. All we can do is pray for her and show compassioin, which Estebob, HappyMommy and you are all doing for this lady.

I think your priest is incorrect, or the context was different.

In this context, fear has nothing to do with knowledge. It doesn’t matter if you’re afraid of the consequences of a sin; if you know it’s a sin and do it anyway, that’s sufficient knowledge.

It is up to God, but if we knowingly put ourselves into mortal sin, then we are telling God that we don’t want to love Him. 😦 He respects that.

But it’s not necessarily the road to perdition either.

God knows everything.

How EFFECTIVE is NFP?
Numerous studies including one by the U.S. government, have shown that the Sympto-Thermal Method of NFP can be used at the 99% level of effectiveness for AVOIDING pregnancy. That’s equal to the birth control pill and better than all the barrier methods.
No side effects of the pill:
  • bleeding between periods
  • weight gain
  • nausea
  • breast tenderness
  • headaches
  • mood changes
  • blood clots (usually occur only in women over 35 who smoke)
All that and it’s not grave sin to boot.

So the pill can make you moody, fat, nauseous, with a headache and mortal sin? What’s the appeal of the pill?

I’m at a loss as to how someone masturbates out of fear. 🤷

But it’s not necessarily the road to perdition either.
If you knowingly place yourself in a state of unrepentant mortal sin, then… yes, it is.
Do you want to bet your eternal soul on the chance that you might convert on your deathbed?
God knows everything.
He does, and He gave us the Church to teach us about what is and isn’t mortal sin. If we refuse to listen to His Church, then He respects our choice. 😦

Regardless, Jane will remain in my prayers.

Actually, while SOME people may get those side effects when on the pill. I actually never had side effects. It made my periods lighter (I suffer from anemia due to heavy menstruation) and acne. WHICH now that I am off the pill I am more anemic than ever and breaking out like a teenager. Of course now, that I am pregnant I am anemic and breaking out because of the baby. I also loved not having the heavy periods which controlled my life. I would sometimes miss work because they were so heavy. I am sure you know that people take them for medical reasons too?

Yes, but we aren’t speaking of that use. The matter at hand is contraceptive use.

And grave sin is a side effect of contraceptives 100% of the time.

Check out the book “Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition” by Marilyn Shannon. She offers advice as to how changes in diet and vitamin supplements can help with the very problems you mention. No icky artificial hormones necessary! 👍

My SIL nearly died due to blood clots caused by the Pill. She was in the hospital when her daughter was only six months old. 😦
