National study: Abortion does not cause depression or low self-esteem in adolescents

I was merely pointing out that just because “A National Study says so” doesn’t mean it’s always right, as clearly evidenced by their past bluders that were cited as excuses for crimes against humanity.

But that was a nice wide and presumptive brush you painted me with there. 👍
I was just pointing out that religious opposition to abortion could have ulterior motives, as evidenced by their previous support of slavery.

Everything could have ulterior motives. I personally (call me cynical) believe everything is biased. Everyone has their agenda, and everyone will twist or interpret things differently based on that agenda – whether they will admit it or not. This is why science has “proved” that blacks are barely a step up on the evolutionary ladder than beasts. The important thing is for one to read everything with a grain of salt, and examine who put this information out there.

I don’t need a scientific study to tell me that abortion doesn’t harm women when I see my own mother manically depressed and citing a past abortion for the reason she wanted to kill herself time and again.

No scientific study can deny that, just as no scientific study can deny that blacks are every bit as intelligent and capable as any other human.

Whether abortions result in higher levels of depression for those who make the decision is legally and morally irrelevant.

We’ve arrived at the crux of the matter. The studies say that people who have abortions tend to have higher rates of depression than the general population, just not higher than the rates of depression for people with unwanted pregnancies.

I hate to be the one to tell you this:

Good summary.
Don’t tell people that abortion causes depression because that is wrong. Unless you have better evidence, telling someone that abortion causes depression is a lie. If you do make this claim, and the other person is informed, he/she may be able to point out that you are wrong and you (along with the pro-life position) will look dumb.
Conclusion does not follow. All of the outcomes of teen pregnancy investigated in the study are associated with an increased rate of depression. The only lie this study exposes is the lie that either abortion or the alternatives are easy.

This only proves my point. Science is not free from error and bias. How can you prove definitively that the makers of this study are not biased or committed error?

The truth is, people should take these studies with a grain of salt. You say abortion doesn’t cause depression because science says so. I say I’ve dealt with close female relatives, as well as friends and others who have come to me citing their abortion as a reason for wanting to end their life.

Get active with victims of abortion (yes, women are victims too) and see what the reality is, not what these scientists with their own biases seem to think they have found…From a ridiculously small sample, and numbers that could be easily influenced for any number of reasons. These studies only serve to silence these women who are hurting and marginalize their pain. It invalidates their feelings, and leaves them alone, brutalized, and devastated.

I reject the fact that blacks are unintelligent, which science believed true for many years. I reject the notion that the earth is the center of the universe. I reject the notion that abortion doesn’t psychologically affect women.

I accept that science is prone to error, and especially so when determining issues of human feelings. The cold, unfeeling, and logical can’t measure the pain of a human heart.
