New report from ireland

**********/SIZE]I moved back to Ireland in May and today there is another report of one diocese’s midhandling of clerical abuse, this from recent years, not the typical 40=50 years ago.What intrigues me is the NYT report of it has lots of comments that are ************** so damning and excessively critical of the Church. I wrote and compared it to taking a hatchet instead of a scalpel. This js a government report, they have a different Church-State relstionshop there, the bishop as already resigned and there were only 9 of 15 cases not reported. The bishop and VG tried to handle it in favor of the priests which ws a mistake but the reaction was as vicious in the NYT comments as many others.There is a lot of un-resolved anger out there and it needs our prayers. I used the image of taking a hatchet rather than a scalpel. Pray for all involved please]]

Well, those who hate Christ and His Church use any part of this abuse issue as a blunt instrument to bash the entire Church whenever possible. We can clearly see Satan’s hand in these actions, and unfortunately, controlling the New York Times. Satan in our day has gotten control over the national media and the government. Both are corrupt beyond imagination, and are one of his most effective weapons against Christ and the people of God. Another is the infiltration of our seminaries by homosexuals and those who got appointed to control the seminaries, in many places. They’re getting better, but for a long time, it was very hard to find a good, faithful seminary, teaching and forming the seminarians to be good, faithful priests. Most were incredibly worldly, and indeed, sinful. We are seeing the “fruits” of those times now.

We are at war, not with flesh and blood, but with principalities and powers. The powers of darkness vs. the powers of good. Lies vs. truth. Good vs. evil. There have been many casualties along the way, both laity and religious.

The greatest threat to our national security and peace is immorality. The moral demise of a nation always precedes its ultimate demise. We are witnessing the destruction of our country and society from within and from without.

I don’t know what to say, other than I’m really sorry if any children did get hurt. Reading that kind of anomosity towards our church breaks my heart too, though.

I haven’t been following the Irish side of the scandals as closely as maybe I should have but this is kind of frightening.

Yeah… it was a lil shocking for me to read some of the comments. It’s crazy to me how they are just vehemently against the church.

I don’t find that too shocking. The Church’s critics are very fond of posting comments to these news articles. I don’t even bother reading them anymore.

It seemed clear to me that he was referencing the bishops placing canon law ahead of the civil law on this matter.

This is in part a response to a problem the Irish clergy created; they protected priests who abused minors and did not protect the children in their flock. But this is obviously not the answer. Not only is it a major breach of the church/state relationship, it is also fruitless, and for the same reason. Priests will protect the seal of the confessional to ensure that penitents know they can confess anything. Penitents who DO abuse children will simply…not confess that sin.

A lose-lose for everyone.

In my opinion, priests ought to insist upon anonymous confession only.
Face to face confession is trouble waiting to happen.
 
I assume the reference to the “Hypocratic oath” is a mistake and the person meant “doctor-patient confidentiality.” But I thought there was always an exception to doctor-patient confidentiality when the patient reveals something that could put themselves or another person in danger. If Ireland didn’t have such an exception I think it’s a good thing to add it.

The situation with priests is abominable though. I wonder how the Church will respond.
 
If this is true, where is the excommunication on Edna Kenny and the rest who supported this?

Priests have been imprisoned, and even martyred, for refusing to break the seal.

And that will happen in Ireland about the time that piggywigs learn to fly.

We should definitely be praying ernestly :gopray2:for those priests who will certainly come under serious fire if this law is ever passed. If it does pass, I fear it will be the first step of many in a lot of different countries.

However, I’m curious what the millions of debout catholics in Ireland feel about this. ? :confused:
