A lot of poor people, maybe most, aren’t poor because they don’t get money but because they waste it.
My favorite myth people use to bash poor people over the head is that they waste their money, not that wages have been stagnant for 40 years while the cost of living has increased by an order of magnitude or more.

Perhaps (although I firmly believe that sometimes dissent is one of the highest forms of patriotism).

That said, I say again that if one isn’t free not to stand, it means nothing when one does stand.
But the real irony of all this is Cop’s killing people is a local issue, primarily in a few metro areas.

It has nothing to do with the flag or the constitution. Also, many of these cities are controlled by minorities who in turn are in charge of the police. The Mayor and City Council direct the police and control who is on any community review boards.

Wages have been stagnant for everyone. I drive through poor neighborhoods and see cars far nicer than my twenty year old car. I go to the store and see poor people lined up to buy lottery tickets. Most of the time when I encounter people with money problems it is because they are spending all of what they have or even more than what they have i.e. living on credit.

Look at this, below. Truly sick. I am not (whatever some of our more conservative posters here at CAF may say) a communist, and I think the free market has indeed created enormous wealth around the world, but this is sick.
there is a store not terribly far from me that buys and sells used sneakers. I always thought it strange that there was a market for such a thing since i always wear my shoes until they literally fall apart but i don’t see what is sick about it

Heh…

I used to volunteer as a counselor at a crisis pregnancy center. Many of the clients were the children of other clients,so it was a generational issue.Additionally, these young girls would come in to get diapers, clothing etc.,all the while they had their manicured fake nails, cell phones and cigarettes.
The real kicker for me was when one of these young mother comes in to pick up her Christmas gifts for her kids. These gifts were provided by the generousityof those who donated to providing items on their wish lists.
I first brought out two smaller bags of gifts( there were two larger shopping bags that I yet needed to bring to her) when she saw the two small bags the first words out of her mouth were"THAT’S IT?!?!"

Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything
IMO, their concept of “sacrificing everything” is questionable. He’s still alive, he can still put food on the table, etc. The only thing he sacrificed was a high-paying career that many say was fizzling anyway.

Not to mention cigarette smoking.

Cigarettes don’t bother me so much. Of course they aren’t good for you. But I wouldn’t begrudge the working man for having a cup of coffee, a few (key word) drinks at night, and smokes. Of course the government gets most of the money for alcohol and cigarettes. If the government cared about poor people they’d stop taxing those things.

Dang, you’re telling me that the cost of living has increased dramatically while the cost of consumer goods has decreased dramatically, and that people who need government assistance can afford some consumer goods? This is an outrage, people on government assistance should live in windowless concrete cells until they bootstrap their way out of poverty in a country with less economic mobility with each passing year.

I am personally shocked that someone who can’t afford the very high costs of raising a child can afford the much less expensive, often government-subsidized, and vital-for-any-poor-person-navigating-multiple-bureacracies-at-multiple-agencies cell phone.

Does anyone else feel like Nike is co-opting the anti-police brutality movement in order to sell their brand? Or, Is Nike trying to make money off of police brutality?

Boy…some people sure get their panties in a twist over nothing…so he knelt instead of standing…big deal…so he’s jerk to me…me…I’d stand…he has just as much right to kneel…stand…balance on one leg…stand on his head…it’s a free country…he has that right believe it or not…it’s just a darn football game…get over it…burn your Nikes…blow your money…who cares…don’t buy Nikes…I never have…I’m to cheap…I buy sketchers…I don’t like the way some of these singers now a days warble their way through the National Anthem like they’re at a gospel meeting rather than a football game…i just turn down the sound…am I being disrespectful??

What I’m telling you is most people who are poor are so due to their own choices. If you want people to be able to make their own choices then that is the result. Giving them money doesn’t fix the problem since the root is their own choices.

Actually raising a child isn’t expensive at all.

It’s not shocking that government agencies are difficult to deal with, and continually solve their administrative and financial problems with more layers of administration. People who cannot take care of themselves and need government assistance can surely learn, and pass on to their children, the skills needed to navigate the myriad of agencies, regulations, administrative layers, and all forms of county, state and federal variations thereof that exist. It’s not a problem though, they just need a smart phone, a second brain if you will, to do the hard parts for them.

What is your evidence for such an outrageous claim?
Personal observation of multiple cases and decades of the social welfare state giving people money. This also is a problem of seemingly wealthy people as well. A lot of people live far beyond their means. There is noting outrageous about that.
