The urgency is NOT the TLM or more pews filled at all. Watch what they do, not what they say. The real crisis & urgency as determined by the Conciliar vatican is:
Going green: Vatican expands mission to saving planet…

In L’Osservatore Romano, Cuscianna wrote that safeguarding the environment was “one of the most important challenges of our century.”

How many Catholics were just sitting on pins n needles waitn for this announcement??**

I do not know.

Please keep to the OP’s topic. If you wish to discuss other issues, please start new threads in the appropriate forums. Thank you.

I must attend a Mass that is humdrum and lacking in true reverence because of where I live.
Move already, PG. You can have any kind of Mass you want around these parts without traveling too far.

Alright here I go!! Please keep in mind I am only stating my very simple minded opinions. I am 45 years old and happened to be on vacation in another state this past weekend and found a beautiful catholic church to go to Mass at. To our surprise and to my delight it was a parish that offered the TLM. I have never attended a latin Mass, and I was very eager to see what all the hub bub was about especially on this forum. Our heads were not covered and immediately I felt out of place. Not only was the priest speaking latin but he was french and had a very think french accent. I immediately looked for communion rails, found those and then thought I’ll just pay attention to what the others are doing and I’ll just follow along. There was no following along, the missal was very hard to follow, I felt out of place and VERY IRREVERANT, and yet still I kept an open mind. We received Holy Communion on our knees, on the tongue, without saying amen. That was particularily bothersome to me(the no amen thing not the kneeling thing). I gotta say I left that church Thanking our Lord for the V2 council and the changes that were made. I am certain that I would have understood more had the priest been mic’d but we were half way back (didn’t want to sit in anybodys regular spot) and basically couldn’t hear anything. Someone made the comment a few pages back in this thread about TLM’s worshipping instead of celebrating, that the latin Mass is about God not about us… I had the distinct feeling of…dismissal …for the lack of a better word, at that mass. And one last thing I come from a very traditional catholic family, and very orthodox parish. I wouldn’t go again, and in my opinion I would like to state that I think that a latin Mass would be more likely to drive people away from the church than a N.O. mass. Just my opinion of course:whistle:

Often, when people experience their first TLM, they feel out of place for lack of active participation. After you go a few times, you realize that the participation comes from within, from spiritually uniting yourself to the Sacred Mysteries of the altar and from praying the Mass.

It does take a few times to get used to the differences, and to realize why the priest doesn’t use a mic, and why the people are not actively involved at the altar. That being said, some people will never feel comfortable at a TLM, just as some will never feel comfortable at a Novus Ordo.

And why is it they don’t use a mic, and why are we not “involved” in the mass?? And I really wasn’t expecting to be comfortable, but I was expecting to learn something and that didn’t happen.

The TLM isn’t a show. The Mass is largely prayers that are quietly whispered to God on our behalf. Actual participation as opposed to active participation is how you “get involved” in the TLM. Instead of watching people running around all over the sanctuary, you lift your heart and mind to God in prayer, joining in the prayers of the Mass interiorly, and uniting yourself to the prayers of the Mass, offering them to God in union with the Holy Sacrifice of Calvary.

I too was acutely aware of the lack of participation the first time I went. The second time I went it didn’t bother me. It took a few more times to learn the Mass well enough to follow along, and after about five or six TLM’s, I felt I understood it well.

I also do not understand the necessity. Paramedicgirl pointedly calls out TLM is not ecumenical. Since when did the origin of the work Catholic, meaning “uniform” be replaced with ecumenism, loosely, “worldwide religious unity”. TLM has not changed since It appears that the V2 turned away from a uniform worship of our Lord to appease the masses. I attended NO for many years until recently found the TLM through my wife’s family. To follow the TLM (Tridentine) it is important to emphasize the infallibility of the Catholic teachings for centuries. I believe if many NO attendees gave TLM a try, they would find very little differences and IMO bring back or strengthen a reverence to their relationship with God.

What is so wrong with the beauty of the TLM that us Catholics were unified since the mid 1500’s until now?

If the Pope doesn’t release the MP, the SSPX will just keep growing.
Can someone tell me what the MP is? I don’t know what this is? As far as the TLM I’m not opposed to it, I’ve just never been to one and I don’t like the idea of having to wear something on my head and only wear a dress to Mass. I dress modestly but during the week I do wear jeans or pants that are new and nice looking not tight. I don’t believe it is a sin to wear this to mass. I don’t wear shorts to mass or immodest dress, but I don’t believe that there is anything wrong with pants as long as they are modest. This is for another thread, but just my two cents. I would like to attend a Latin Mass sometime and one of our priests is considering it because he knows how to say it. Let’s face it folks it hasn’t been around for quite some time and none of the priest in seminary were trained to say this mass and most don’t even study Latin. I know my pastor said he didn’t get much study of this and they didn’t go over anything about saying the Mass in Latin. So how is it suppose to be implemented, our priest are already so busy they can barely take care of us now. We cannot ask them to just say this LM without being first trained. This will take a very long time if they do this and it won’t just be a snap of fingers.
The only thing I have against some that attend the LM is they won’t go to a Novis Order Mass even if it for a friend’s child’s first Holy Communion. I can understand if heresy is going on but that isn’t the case and I don’t believe this happens too much except maybe in some bad areas such as California. I hope for all you guys that love the LM that every town has at least one parish you can go to for the LM. Just so you know though I love the Novis Order Mass and I’ve never been to a LM and I am orthodox and traditional! I’m a convert 15 years and I love my Holy Pope and My One Holy and Catholic Apostolic Church!: hug1

I think the big thing for someone coming to a Traditional Mass after being, well… coddled for lack of a better word in the Pauline Rite is that the degree you participate is really up to you. Whether or not you pray the Mass along with the the Priest is your decision. You can kneel there, stare at the altar and wait for something to happen or look around at who has head coverings as some apparently do:tsktsk: or check out the beauty of the Church OR, you can grab your Missal and pray right along with the Priest. Thats right, you can pray the entire thing right along with him. You really can’t get lost as the words are right in front of you and they are in the vernacular as well as Latin. It doesn’t matter is you get ahead of the Priest or behind him as you can always slow down or speed up. You see its all up to you.👍

What I do is pray until the Canon then I watch the Priest. I know by his movements when the consecration is about to occur but I still feel that wonderful sense of anticipation waiting until the bells have rung an I know that the transformation has taken place and Christ is physically present amongst us once again . Then I resume the prayers until Holy Communion, receive when I’m eligible, thats right, sometimes I’m unable to receive:eek: and then I kneel again and pray.

Simple and anyone can do it. It just takes a little discipline and motivation…It helps to remember the following;

**The Holy Mass is a prayer itself, even the highest prayer that exists. It is the Sacrifice dedicated by our Redeemer at the Cross, and repeated every day on the Altar. If you wish to hear Mass as it should be heard, you must follow with eye, heart and mouth all that happens at the Altar. Further, you must pray with the Priest the holy words said by him in the Name of Christ and which Christ says by him. You have to associate your heart with the holy feelings which are contained in these words and in this manner you ought to follow all that happens on the Altar. When acting in this way you have prayed Holy Mass."
“Don’t pray at Holy Mass, but pray the Holy Mass.”
His Holiness, Pope Saint Pius X

Just about says it all doesn’t it??

I think the real fear is that unwarranted judgements like this will be made about the NO! Both are perfectly valid and properly promulgated liturgies, both, if celebrated according to the rubrics, entirely focused on God.
I realize I can’t get into a comparison between the two rites without violating the rules so I will just say show me where I’m wrong instead of using pejoratives.

I’ve noticed when comment can’t be refuted pejoratives like “judgmental” and “intolerant” come into play.

The Novus Ordo is a valid and licit Mass. I didn’t say otherwise. However, there isn’t a problem with the Traditional Latin Mass being celebrated according to the rubrics. Why is that?

See, you are intelligent and articulate. I’m not just saying that because you’re posting in this thread. 😉
