THat’s what it’s called the Protestant Work Ethic as a development of the English Poor Laws. This concept shapes the outlook of the Right. It speaks of the “worthy” and “unworthy” poor. The “worthy” poor are the blind, maimed, and the widow. The worthy are. . . well . . . . everyone else. It presses the idea that with moral riteousness and hard work comes material wealth as God wills. The poor are poor because of a lax lifestyle and lack of discipline.
Does this sound like sound logic to you? It does to many and that’s what makes them the Right.
