I can’t help but wonder what Jesus would do?

Throw a bunch of seniors into poverty and cardiac arrest, or raise taxes on millionaires?

Tough love can kill the frail, taken to extremes, in my opinion.

jomoco, no one needs to wonder WWJD. He gives us a really good hint in Matt 25:35-46. And then I think somewhere he said something about the rich and a camel too. 😉 Peace

Absolutely. Jesus is pro-Welfare State…even thought the Church He established is not. :rolleyes:

I think people should be careful claiming Jesus would support their economic program. He spoke a lot about personal responsibility, so we can certainly agree that people should give to the poor and not have an attachment to money and material goods. That he would favor a certain taxation method is unknown.

Not at all. Just when it comes to the false choice jomoco has given. Obama said he wasn’t sure there would be money for Social Security checks. That, my friend, is a scare tactic. The money is there, if that is a priority.

Cool. Where did he say he supports uneven tax distribution or a “tax the rich” philosophy? If you can point to a specific verse on that, I will gladly join you in your viewpoint.

The question is without additional revenue, for how long and also for how many other types of benefits, the poor, the sick, veterans and others, depend on just to survive day to day. It’s not rocket science. Common sense says you can not make enough cuts without additional revenue unless you are willing to hurt an awfully lot of poor and middle class folks in the process. This is where shared sacrifice by those who can most afford it comes in.

Well, Obama is certainly ready to cut those benefits, so it’s a good question. He walked out ‘abruptly’ because the Republicans wouldn’t agree to his big deal that includes cutting of those benefits. 🤷

Then, he made a veiled threat by saying that there may not be enough money to pay Social Security payments.

I can see where Obama is a real friend of the poor, sick, etc. 😛
